I am a Fender Jazz Bass fanatic, and have owned several over the years. My main bass was a black 1973 Jazz until the early 1990s and since then a sunburst "1962 reissue" manufactured in 1992, and a 2007 (Wine) Highway One Jazz. A year and a half ago, I found a "Vintage White" (light yellow) MIM Deluxe Jazz on sale. The bass has a great neck and modern, yet vintage vibe to it. I have played it since then mainly in my church praise band and at home. The bass has a fast ?C? neck and fairly quiet electronics, but it is NOT built to American series standards IMO. Mine required neck/fret work to correct a dead 16th fret zone by a Fender certified tech. (Free to me under warranty). The chrome on the tuners is unevenly applied and has tool marks from the application process. The tuners themselves allow the low E string to go flat too easily, and the stock bridge is the weakest link on the bass. The nut was cut a bit out of tolerance requiring the low E string to have extra windings to put enough downward pressure over the nut for good definition of notes. E string definition was a bit disappointing. In stock configuration I would give the bass an overall rating of 2.5 as delivered to me from the music store. But? following the neck correction and subsequent modifications, this bass has become a music machine! I had a local Fender certified tech tear down the bass and paint all routed electronics cavities with multiple coats of shielding paint. He then upgraded the battery clip and wiring harnesses to more heavy duty gages. A Leo Quan Baddass II bridge was installed to replace the stock Fender bridge. All electronics pots had individual ground wires soldered in. A copper plate was custom fashioned underneath the new bridge to provide a better ground connection. The neck was shimmed for correct alignment to the new bridge. This guitar is now dead quiet. The changes totally transformed the instrument! Now I would describe the sound as punchy, defined, and harmonically rich. The bass is very useful in rock, funk, blues, gospel, jazz, etc. Action is nice and low with a great Jazz Bass growl. The active electronics provide near P-Bass to Jaco sounds quite nicely. Harmonics low leap out at you and sustain is dramatically increased. The bass was so improved I bought a Fender HSC for it to replace the stock gig bag. So in current configuration it holds it?s own with my American made Fenders. Bottom line is it may (will?) require some tweaks but the basics for a killer bass guitar are there to be coaxed from it. If you need a real player without the need for tweaks I would strongly consider the Highway One Jazz Bass.

The wiring for the batttery very cheap material. It Broke right of the bat. For the price that I paid I was expecting somthing better. I returned it and had no problems at all. That was the best part of it all.
Features are ok but but if you try to slap or pull, the notes deaden. I'm not an expert on electronics but my 19 year old Ibanes SG does not do that and it is active electronics also.
Fender has done better. Action a mile high right out of the box and intonation not even close.
Not even what you pay for.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This bass is well built with excellent hardware and electronics. By far the most comfortable both is playability and tone, and I have played a lot. From Hofners, through Gibsons, and a dozen or so Fenders. This is simply the best bass on the market for th price. Disregard the bad reviews, the pickups are awesome, and the wiring complaint must have been an accidental build error. Mine is simply superb

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

The bass is not the best sound. The pickups are weak and sound is not clear. The Fender workmanship on thie one is poor. It is a MX built Guitar. I was really let down on this one. I have the five string one just like this one, so I brought this one. The active eletronics is not strong too!

      J Bass active

      By Phil Dorman

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

My first step up from a basic bass guitar. This bass is so easy to play and has a numb er of different tones. The knobs are easily accessible and actually turn to make a difference.
It was remiss of me not to write earlier. I bought this bass guitar on spec. It was cheaper than new and it was going to be sent to me in Australia. The delivery service was fantastic. i received the guitar within a week. The packaging was also fantastic. Everything was included.

The guitar is awesome. I did my first garage band practice with it last night. it was a big step up from the basic Yamaha which i bought ten months ago.

The guitar is as good as new. I will keep testing but I doubt if I will have any problems.

I am happy to endorse the service.

      Superb

      By Darren Ullman

      from West Virginia

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I've only been a bass player for 10 years. It took two years for me to realize that Fender Jazz basses give me the tone that I want. However, it is possible that the Deluxe Active is the sole reason for me feeling that way. I'm certain that even a musician more seasoned than I would be completely satisfied with this instrument. I absolutely love it.

      Good Value

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This is my third bass. Bought because it has active electronics and the tobacco sunburst finish is beautiful. This bass plays well. I made two changes that now make it my favorite.1)Put a Leo Quann Bad AssII bridge on it. 2)Replaced the plastic nut with a bone nut. It does use a battery fairly quick, but the tone is great. The new bridge has really improved the sustain. Overall, this is a good value for the money. Wouldn't mind owning the 5 string version now.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

Im in a band, and I need a new bass, because of giging I wanted a Fender American Vintage 62 Precision Bass (Olympic White)just like Dee Dee Ramones used, but their was no way I could save up 1500, so I got this which was 700 ducks which is all I had......well it could not do Ramone songs, but I must say the songs we wrote it sounds very good with our songs, so all out it is a nice bass, but if you do Ramones stuff don't buy it.

      Good Stuff

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I shopped around for about a year before I finally bought this bass. You won't find anything this good on the market for this price. It's pretty much a bargain from Fender.Sounds weird, I know. The pre-amp and the Noiseless pick-ups really do give you massive tonal options. Any sound in my head - I can pretty much dial it in.The hardware's all good. I've replaced the bridge, not because there was anything essentially wrong with it, but because I fancied the Badass II instead - which really makes it sound GREAT.The thing looks pretty neat too, and plays very well. I mean it's a Jazz bass...
