This bass is well built with excellent hardware and electronics. By far the most comfortable both is playability and tone, and I have played a lot. From Hofners, through Gibsons, and a dozen or so Fenders. This is simply the best bass on the market for th price. Disregard the bad reviews, the pickups are awesome, and the wiring complaint must have been an accidental build error. Mine is simply superb

The wiring for the batttery very cheap material. It Broke right of the bat. For the price that I paid I was expecting somthing better. I returned it and had no problems at all. That was the best part of it all.
Features are ok but but if you try to slap or pull, the notes deaden. I'm not an expert on electronics but my 19 year old Ibanes SG does not do that and it is active electronics also.
Fender has done better. Action a mile high right out of the box and intonation not even close.
Not even what you pay for.

Good Value

By Bassplayer62-5TAGH

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This is my third bass. Bought because it has active electronics and the tobacco sunburst finish is beautiful. This bass plays well. I made two changes that now make it my favorite.1)Put a Leo Quann Bad AssII bridge on it. 2)Replaced the plastic nut with a bone nut. It does use a battery fairly quick, but the tone is great. The new bridge has really improved the sustain. Overall, this is a good value for the money. Wouldn't mind owning the 5 string version now.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This is a poor sounding bass for the money. You are just paying for a name. It is built very cheap and bad. Stya away from this one. Spend your money on something better. A lot of noise in electronics, nut was broken (very thin), and weak low output. I have owned many basses, this is not a good one!

    J Bass active

    By Phil Dorman

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

My first step up from a basic bass guitar. This bass is so easy to play and has a numb er of different tones. The knobs are easily accessible and actually turn to make a difference.
It was remiss of me not to write earlier. I bought this bass guitar on spec. It was cheaper than new and it was going to be sent to me in Australia. The delivery service was fantastic. i received the guitar within a week. The packaging was also fantastic. Everything was included.

The guitar is awesome. I did my first garage band practice with it last night. it was a big step up from the basic Yamaha which i bought ten months ago.

The guitar is as good as new. I will keep testing but I doubt if I will have any problems.

I am happy to endorse the service.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I shopped around for about a year before I finally bought this bass. You won't find anything this good on the market for this price. It's pretty much a bargain from Fender.Sounds weird, I know. The pre-amp and the Noiseless pick-ups really do give you massive tonal options. Any sound in my head - I can pretty much dial it in.The hardware's all good. I've replaced the bridge, not because there was anything essentially wrong with it, but because I fancied the Badass II instead - which really makes it sound GREAT.The thing looks pretty neat too, and plays very well. I mean it's a Jazz bass...

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I've only been a bass player for 10 years. It took two years for me to realize that Fender Jazz basses give me the tone that I want. However, it is possible that the Deluxe Active is the sole reason for me feeling that way. I'm certain that even a musician more seasoned than I would be completely satisfied with this instrument. I absolutely love it.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

The bass is not the best sound. The pickups are weak and sound is not clear. The Fender workmanship on thie one is poor. It is a MX built Guitar. I was really let down on this one. I have the five string one just like this one, so I brought this one. The active eletronics is not strong too!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

Im in a band, and I need a new bass, because of giging I wanted a Fender American Vintage 62 Precision Bass (Olympic White)just like Dee Dee Ramones used, but their was no way I could save up 1500, so I got this which was 700 ducks which is all I had......well it could not do Ramone songs, but I must say the songs we wrote it sounds very good with our songs, so all out it is a nice bass, but if you do Ramones stuff don't buy it.

    GREAT Bass After Some Modifications

    By Sal-27.g8

    from Indiana

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I am a Fender Jazz Bass fanatic, and have owned several over the years. My main bass was a black 1973 Jazz until the early 1990s and since then a sunburst "1962 reissue" manufactured in 1992, and a 2007 (Wine) Highway One Jazz. A year and a half ago, I found a "Vintage White" (light yellow) MIM Deluxe Jazz on sale. The bass has a great neck and modern, yet vintage vibe to it. I have played it since then mainly in my church praise band and at home. The bass has a fast ?C? neck and fairly quiet electronics, but it is NOT built to American series standards IMO. Mine required neck/fret work to correct a dead 16th fret zone by a Fender certified tech. (Free to me under warranty). The chrome on the tuners is unevenly applied and has tool marks from the application process. The tuners themselves allow the low E string to go flat too easily, and the stock bridge is the weakest link on the bass. The nut was cut a bit out of tolerance requiring the low E string to have extra windings to put enough downward pressure over the nut for good definition of notes. E string definition was a bit disappointing. In stock configuration I would give the bass an overall rating of 2.5 as delivered to me from the music store. But? following the neck correction and subsequent modifications, this bass has become a music machine! I had a local Fender certified tech tear down the bass and paint all routed electronics cavities with multiple coats of shielding paint. He then upgraded the battery clip and wiring harnesses to more heavy duty gages. A Leo Quan Baddass II bridge was installed to replace the stock Fender bridge. All electronics pots had individual ground wires soldered in. A copper plate was custom fashioned underneath the new bridge to provide a better ground connection. The neck was shimmed for correct alignment to the new bridge. This guitar is now dead quiet. The changes totally transformed the instrument! Now I would describe the sound as punchy, defined, and harmonically rich. The bass is very useful in rock, funk, blues, gospel, jazz, etc. Action is nice and low with a great Jazz Bass growl. The active electronics provide near P-Bass to Jaco sounds quite nicely. Harmonics low leap out at you and sustain is dramatically increased. The bass was so improved I bought a Fender HSC for it to replace the stock gig bag. So in current configuration it holds it?s own with my American made Fenders. Bottom line is it may (will?) require some tweaks but the basics for a killer bass guitar are there to be coaxed from it. If you need a real player without the need for tweaks I would strongly consider the Highway One Jazz Bass.

    Active pickups RooocK!!!!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

While I have owned several Jazz basses in the past and currently own a Epi Thunderbird I really enjoyed testing one of the new deluxe active jazz basses. One of the reasons why I sold my standard jazz was the weight and the limitation on tone it had. THis new Jazz bass has tone tone tone!!! And of course the neck is just awesome (the reason why I've used jazz basses in the past). I received this bass for Christmas! (talk about a surprise). THis particular one is a special edition run in Sapphire Blue with maple quilt top and back, alder body and new version U.S large pole active pickups. The fit and finish are great, as usual with Fender. I have been using this bass for the last 2 months with no trouble other than needing to replace the 9v battery once (left it plugged in overnight). I added a vintage "F" bridge cover to give it even more class. Overall this is a real quality instrument that any bassist would be proud to play. Please do not let the "Made in Mexico" drive you away. The Fender plant in Mexico makes a real quality product. I have owned American and Mexican fender instruments and both are great players however the American versions do hold thier value better, but if you are looking for a good player at a lower price point made by Fender look at the Mexican product(s).

    A Great Buy

    By Ian-M7pUM

    from Nowhere, MS

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This is a great bass for the price (I went with the 3-tone sunburst). The active controls are really nice for anyone who really likes to tweak their sound, and the stock pickups are great. I've never had any problems with the tuners; they stay in tune very well (I almost never have to tune during a show). I used to get a nasty buzz on the first two frets on the E string when I played the string hard. I ended up replacing the stock bridge with a "BadAss II" and the buzzing stopped. The neck is insanely comfortable and the satin finish is amazing; it doesn't feel as "sticky" to me as necks with a heavy clear coat finish. You should seriously consider getting this bass.. You won't be disappointed!

The delivery was bolluxed by Mus. Friend (went to my rehearsal spot). But then the good stuff began! Right out of the box, after tuning it, the intonation & action were dead-on! Could adjust tone on the fly w/o any problem. I MIGHT have the action lowered a wee bit, but it's fine as is. I wish it had the easy-changing battery setup like on my Jaguar Deluxe (that really spoiled me).

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I am not a full fledged bass player, but play often in a studio. I have only owned a few bass guitars, this being the most expensive one. I bought the vintage white. I've thought of buying another, but why? This is a great bass that can do most everything I need it for. It's easy to play, and I can dial in any tone I'm looking for. I've had it for 8 years with no problems. Just an initial set-up. Well worth the money. Would have liked a nitro finish.

So were do I begin... I got this bass about 2 years ago. Its my first bass and the best Ive played. The sound you can get from it are amazing and the features for its price are FAR from beyond its price! The neck is smooth as butter and plays like a dream. The pickups sound great for stock pickups. Im going to get a pickup and bridge cover and thumb rest for it to give it the vintage look and eventually get some vintage fender pickups for it. BUY THIS BASS!!!!! Itll be the BEST investment you make!!!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This could quite possibly be the last bass that I will buy as a main. For me, a player that does everything from Slap and Tap to really fast picking, I just can't find a better bass. I bought this at my local GC and I was amazed, I took it right to practice than, right to a gig. My uncle, a bass player of many years, who owns an american P-bass, was amazed to hear that that bass was mexican. Frankly, so was I. I really don't like that fender could have done any better, well... except for the horrible bridge. It's fine if you dont really caer, but if your serious, the buy a badass bridge to go with it. I plan to buy a pickup cover and a bridge plate for a real cool vintage look. The noiseless pickup's kick, and the active EQ is worth twice the price. Once you go active, you'll never go back.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I bought this bass in January and fell in love with it. I liked the bass as it was but I read about changing the bridge to get a much better sound. So I let curiosity kick in and bought the badass bass bridge. Let me just say: WOW!!!!! If you like the tone with the original bridge, that's kool; but if you want to add a whole fistful of extra punch, change the bridge and go with the badass. It makes a huge difference! You put a badass bridge on it and you will not be dissapointed. All you will be doing is making the bass much more sweeter. Great bass, great price, just awesome overall.
