Fender

A deluxe version of Fender's best-of-both-worlds bass.

The Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass has a Jazz neck, a P Bass body, and a P/J combination pickup array with Vintage Noiseless pickups and active electronics. The P body is a little smaller and lighter, the J neck slimmer and faster, and the combined pickups give you just that much more to play with. A gold vinyl pickguard sets the Deluxe P Bass apart visually, and its satin-finish neck feels worn in from the get-go.

Includes a gig bag.

Features
  • Jazz neck
  • P Bass body
  • Vintage Noiseless Pickups (J bridge pickup, P center pickup)
  • Active electronics
  • Gold vinyl pickguard
  • Includes a gig bag

This is a very cool bass and the price is easy. Get it.

This is one bass that I will never part with. Just due to the fact that it's a Fender and the variety of sounds that one can get from it. It plays very nice, easy on the hands, stays in tune, quality workmanship, beaufiful looking and just sounds fantastic...I would recommend this to anyone.
One more thing. The different sounds that come from the 2 picups is the defining factor for me. You get the jazz bass/bridge sound and you get the p/bass sound, or both together. Buy it, you'll like it.....
The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because "it's heavy". But I only play 2 days a week so it is really not a BIG problem.
Here's the good part: It sounds wonderful. It has rejuvinatied my sound. I will admit, I haven't had a Fender bass since the 60's. Both Jazz and P. both were stolen from me, dang.....Anyway, back to the subject at hand....It has such a diversity of sounds from low/fat/noattack....to high/pricktheears/slap and anything in between. Of course, this could be a good thing or a bad thing. I find myself piddiling with it for hours just to see what kind of sound I can come up with using amp settings and bass settings. It is truly amazing. Sometimes, as with a p/bass, there is something to say about plugging in and just playing as opposed to trying to find that exact sound. But, someday I will find "that" sound and then I won't have to play with it much....Great bass. Would I buy it again, a resounding "YES"!!!
I think it is a fair price for the bass you get. Unlike my Ch. basses, at least when you turn the knobs, something happens on a gradual scale as opposed to nothing then all of a sudden something (those who have Ch basses know what I mean). It is the best bass I own, and the most expensive. Can't afford $2000 basses......I'm a retired working man, worked hard all my life, and I'll keep on workin....as long as these 2 hands are fit to use.....drink a lil beer in a tavern, cry a little bit of these workin man blues....

I have played pro for a long time. I must say that I agree with the other positive reviews. It is a great bass for the price. This thing definitely rivals more expensive basses in sound and quality. I got this as a backup for a much more expensive American-made bass. It came set up well and with no flaws in the finish(black with gold pickguard). Used it to record the day after I got it and it sounded great. The gig bag should be replaced with something better, though.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:

This guitar is a great sounding and playing bass, especially for the price. It has the best of both with the P bass body and Jazz bass neck. The combination pickups give you a large tonal range. It comes with a decent gig bag but I would spring for a hardshell case because I think it's a nice enough guitar to deserve one if you're going to be taking it places. It's very comfortable to play both in the weight of the instrument as well as the slim Jazz bass neck.

If you don't want to spend the money to get a higher end Fender but still want a nice sounding and playing guitar than this is the one. In my opinion this guitar is inexpensive enough that you could learn on it but nice enough that you could stick with it for the long haul if you choose.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:

I got this bass to play on tour.
I was thrilled with it right away.
It has a great feel and real nice tone.
The Fender Active electronics are a quality package. I prefer this pickup system to their passive ones. I choose the bass because of the Active PU and the uncluttered picking area. I am a finger player and like to strum and bash as well. The clear picking area allows this without me hurting my hands or damaging the pus. The blond neck gives easy visibility for quick neck position locating while playing very fast moving music and jumping all over the place. I have a 5 Sting active jazz 5 that I have been playing since 1998 and like it quite a bit. This instrument s similar and allows me to play a four string P Bass w/o having to reconfigure my processing. I played it as my primary instrument in the 2013 tour season and loved it. I changed the batteries pretty frequently when we were playing shows, but the pickups seem to perform fine one battery for a long time. I never had to change them for rehearsals. I just didn't want an equipment failure in front of 50000 people. I totally recommend this bass. It's a wonderful instrument.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:

Since I am not a professional, I don't see myself ever needing to buy another bass. This has everything I could need: smaller neck profile, smaller precision bass body, active electronics, and the PJ configuration to get a nice variety of tones. I've owned a couple of other fender models in the past, and this is the best one yet in terms of playability, craftsmanship, and tone. Not to mention, the action was absolutely perfect out of the box. I will warn that the navy blue finish is much darker than what is displayed online, but it is beautiful and unique in person. In particular, it almost looks black unless there is good lighting showing off its blue metallic flake. Overall, I would highly recommend this bass for people interested in a variety of genres (funk, jazz, rock, metal, country, etc.) because it can accomplish it all. I would also like to thank musicians friend for their outstanding customer service. You all never disappoint!

This bass sounds soooooo good. I play small to mid size venues, record, and jam. I play several diff genre of music and this bass does it all. Its easy to adjust the tones between songs on the fly. Its light weight, and it growls twangs pops and bangs. Best bass iveever owned.....on the con side, the bridge, the saddles. Just my preference tho. It still functions and sounds great...

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:

This is the first bass I've owned I've been playing on it for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it. I've had to tweak parts with the input jack but otherwise its a solid build. The action on the fret board is fantastic better than most basses that I've tried, some much more expensive and innovative. So for any newcomers to bass or experienced musicians this is a go to instrument to add to your arsenal. I've played at several venues consisting of the Fillmore and 9:30 Club and trust me this bass holds its own. Also in regards to the fret buzzing just adjust your bridge until the buzzing stops I added new strings and did that and since then the buzzing has ceased.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:

When it arrived the action was very poor. This can be expected as it was probably in a box for quite some time and had to be shipped from Mexico to California to New York. After an inexpensive tune up it is beautiful now. The only issue I have had is that the it seems to short out on random occasions, this is probably due to the cable and not directly the bass though. I'm no entirely sure. Also the plastic around the adjustment knobs is a pain to get off. Other than that this thing is super sexy and plays like a charm I'd say it is certainly worth the investment!
