This is one bass that I will never part with. Just due to the fact that it's a Fender and the variety of sounds that one can get from it. It plays very nice, easy on the hands, stays in tune, quality workmanship, beaufiful looking and just sounds fantastic...I would recommend this to anyone.
One more thing. The different sounds that come from the 2 picups is the defining factor for me. You get the jazz bass/bridge sound and you get the p/bass sound, or both together. Buy it, you'll like it.....
The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because "it's heavy". But I only play 2 days a week so it is really not a BIG problem.
Here's the good part: It sounds wonderful. It has rejuvinatied my sound. I will admit, I haven't had a Fender bass since the 60's. Both Jazz and P. both were stolen from me, dang.....Anyway, back to the subject at hand....It has such a diversity of sounds from low/fat/noattack....to high/pricktheears/slap and anything in between. Of course, this could be a good thing or a bad thing. I find myself piddiling with it for hours just to see what kind of sound I can come up with using amp settings and bass settings. It is truly amazing. Sometimes, as with a p/bass, there is something to say about plugging in and just playing as opposed to trying to find that exact sound. But, someday I will find "that" sound and then I won't have to play with it much....Great bass. Would I buy it again, a resounding "YES"!!!
I think it is a fair price for the bass you get. Unlike my Ch. basses, at least when you turn the knobs, something happens on a gradual scale as opposed to nothing then all of a sudden something (those who have Ch basses know what I mean). It is the best bass I own, and the most expensive. Can't afford $2000 basses......I'm a retired working man, worked hard all my life, and I'll keep on workin....as long as these 2 hands are fit to use.....drink a lil beer in a tavern, cry a little bit of these workin man blues....

I have played pro for a long time. I must say that I agree with the other positive reviews. It is a great bass for the price. This thing definitely rivals more expensive basses in sound and quality. I got this as a backup for a much more expensive American-made bass. It came set up well and with no flaws in the finish(black with gold pickguard). Used it to record the day after I got it and it sounded great. The gig bag should be replaced with something better, though.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
I am a professional guitar player who sometimes doubles on bass and needed a reasonably priced bass to use without breaking the bank. This bass is easy to play with the J-Neck, has many different sounds based on the Jazz/Precision pickups. Right now I'm playing it through an old Peavey TNT 100 (45 watts), but plan to get a Hartke LH 1000/with Hydrive 4-10 cabinet. Can't imagine how great it's going to sound with the new rig if it sounds this good on the old Peavey.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
i got this bass on friday, thoguh ordering it online without having tried it i was a bit skeptical, but i was pleasantly suprised. The strings are still new so i will wait for their ratteling to fade. i can get a good rock sound and a good slap sound. once the strings age i'll be able to get a good upright sound to. i warn you though if you get this bass, it will be usless through a tiny amp, so get a good one along with it. also i wish in the back instead of a boost knobs there was a tone knob, because if you turn it all the way off the basses sound becomes usless.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
I own this bass. I love this bass. Buy this bass. The active pick-ups sound amazing. Incredibly versatile array of sounds are possible just from the tone & EQ controls & different combinations of the 2 different pickups. Feels & looks great. Slightly on the heavy side, but I've played much heavier too. The frets protrude just a tad on the sides of the necks, but easy enough to file down (carefully! - put tape on each side of fret!). I was told by a MF operator that it's "made in Mexico w/ American parts". I think it plays, looks & sounds better than most American P Basses I've played & it's much easier on your wallet.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
I got the black/maple model and then installed a Babicz Full Contact bridge, GREAT upgrade !! I never used this playing out, only recording and no complaints. Its tonal range is amazing, I can get from smooth walking lines to gut thumping chords and anywhere in between. I'm a guitarist, not a bassist but for the money this is really a high performer and I'd recommend this. Controls are easy but maybe not for a beginner and after a quick set up even I sound like a true bassist.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
I've tryed the MIJ Aerodyne both Jazz and precision, MIM Jazz, MIA American precision.
This bass is perfect. Well balanced, jazz neck with 1.5 nut. It can give you room feeling sub harmonics or the the smooth tone of jazz. I added a High mass bass bridge,a precision and jazz chrome pickup cover for looks. Then I discovered how much better the tone and sustain worked using pickup covers. It looks awesome and sounds great.
I have the blizzard pearl with rosewood neck. I also use Thomastik jf364 flatwound strings. Its one great bass.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
Looks great, combo of jazz neck, p bass body, p& j pickups, noiseless, unbeatable. I have many basses including a new USA jazz bass and USA p bass and this is the one I reach for most. It can sound more like a p bass, more like a j bass than either of the ' real' ones, yet has a voice of its own. I cranked the truss and lowered the bridge and it out plays anything. The combo of active and noiseless on the pj pickups gives you all you will ever need. I got the pearl w maple and its a looker too.
I had one quality issue, one of the clover tuners arrived damaged like it got twisted while being spun at the factory but it wasn't too noticeable and everything else was so good I decided not to send it back. Purely cosmetic did not affect operation.
Best deal on a bass period, and a great instrument for any price.
You need one.

Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
time is needed to dial the tone you'll stick with for life! but if you get board of that tone after a while, you can find another one. thank you fender for making such a great instrument for us! the neck has a great feel and the classic body shape sits on your knee when practicing, sits good on your neck at gigs. origanal set up was good.
Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
Highly recommended.
The bass was well packaged, and arrived within about 10 days to Australia. I'm very pleased with the purchase. After playing guitar for decades, this is my first bass. I could have started cheap, but would have regretted it. I can't see me needing better than this.
Comments about Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass:
Overall, I am glad I bought this guitar!! I actually bought it as a backup to my Standard, but this has become the primary beater!! A friend who is also a professional bassist (And very picky!!) also loves this guitar.... My only complaint is the gold plastic pickguard... looks ultra cheap! If it was Gold annodized, I would have liked it way more, and it would have stayed, but it had to go. Also the bridge could be a bit more "Hi Mass" but those are a bit nit-pickey things... My only other regret is I wish I got the maple neck, but I messed that one up... I like this guitar a LOT!! It plays great, looks fantastic, sounds awesome, and is very comfortable to play!! The guitar is not too heavy, not too light... you know you have a nice piece of timber in your hands! The Precision body with the JAzz neck is definitely the best of both worlds!!
This is a great instrument!! Very versitile.... I have 2 P Basses, one Standard and this Special Deluxe. It's full of tone and plays like butter!! The Jazz neck is fantastic!! The active pickups are great, too!! Noiseless J pickup in the neck position.... I have made a few changes like upgraded the bridge to a Babicz, which I highly reccomend, as it beefs it up a bit and looks much better... (Even tho I love fender basses, I hate the bridges... wicked cheap) I also swapped out the gold plastic pickguard, as I thought it was ugly... My guitar is the Blizzard Pearl, so I went with Tortoise guard.. Since there's 4 holes required, I had to drill, and they don't all match, but it looks good to me. I also added strap locks and a thumb rest, which is solid brass, and it looks great, but I have cut my finger on it several times, and bled all over the guitar, but, hey!! That's rock and roll!!
Well built!! Great action!! Needed very little extra set up, to make it right!! I have a heavy right hand, and so far, after many gigs, it's still going strong!!
Fender did it again! The value is fantastic.... Personally, I don't think there's a better "bang for the buck" guitar, out there!! There's a wide range of tones to be had, from this beast, so just keep twisting the knobs, and you WILL find the one you're looking for.... I will continue beating the crap out of it for many years to come!
