Well, I've had this bass twice now. The first one was made in Japan. I stopped playing and sold it. Big mistake. I just bought another one and it's made in Mexico. Both are equal, no difference. Both are amazing. I have had USA made Precision basses and Jazz basses, which I can't really say anything bad about, but this Geddy Lee bass is just better, hands down. It's simply a nice classy instrument. Better finish, better neck, better everything. I don't care where it's made, this is a truly perfect bass. It plays so well it's hard to even describe. It's classy looking with the block inlays and neck binding. It is without a doubt the best bass I've ever had or ever played. I got black this time and put a black pick guard on it. It's just awesome looking all black with that maple neck and block inlays. The first one I had was sunburst and it was sharp looking too. Way better than the picture here shows it to be. Bottom line, if you love the jazz bass, this one is definitely the one to get, and a step above the best USA ones. It's the neck! It absolutely plays perfect, straight, solid and fast, great low action and zero fret buzz. Everything else is top quality as well. The finish is flawless. And of course it sounds great. You sure don't have to be a fan of Rush either. It fits any playing style and music type. I guarantee you will not regret buying it. If you are a serious bass player you will see what I mean instantly. If you're a novice, well you will start out with the best bass you'll ever own.

I played a Japan-built Geddy Lee for several years. Great build quality and electronics. Picked up a MIM yesterday in the store and could not believe the difference in quality. Finish, craftsmanship, and electronics are poor when compared to the CIJ. It was similar to the Squier VM Jazz Bass, which is a good quality instrument, but not on a par with the original bass. Maybe Fender should lower their price or take Geddy's name off this bass. Of course, it's possible I picked up a bad one.

Geddy Lee is top Fender value

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

The Japan-made Geddy Lee jazz bass is a phenomenal instrument: beautiful, functional, well-styled, and playable. The pickups are powerful (though passive) and balanced, knobs, tuners and bridge are top-drawer, and the finish, fretwork and other exterior elements all are done with care, and flawless. The neck is worth an entire review by itself. (This is my second Japan-made Fender; the other was a P-bass, and also featured a superb fast-playing radiused neck, though wider.)

A slight adjustment to the truss rod and saddles and she was ready to play. With roundwounds, you can move from deep all-bass tones played at the end of the fretboard to incredible snap and growl with the tone rolled off a bit. I would not put flats on this bass; I tried and it didn't go. This bass begs to get out front.

Let me emphasize, mine is a recent Japan-made, not Mexico-made, Geddy Lee. I have never played a Mexico-made model and can't comment on it; but if you If you can get a Japan-made model, spend the money. You will never need, and perhaps never want, another bass.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

This is possibly the best bass I have ever picked up. I have owned the normal jazz bass a jaguar bass and a 1977 Musicmaster bass and this by far wins. It sounds great with either a pick or finger. Nothing but high praise. Definitely worth the price.

The only problem I have encountered is the black inlays chip a little but that doesnt bother me and should not bring down this 5 star rating!

I've had this bass for a good 8 years and it still serves me well. It's not just for Rush either. I've used this in metal, country, funk, hip-hop and rock bands. It has unbelievable punch/crunch when the volume is turned up. One of the best, most versatile basses you can buy!

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

After 30 years of using a cheap Peavey bass, it was time to get serious. I played a Jazz Bass in a music store and loved it. Then I heard great things about the Geddy Lee model. The praise is well deserved.

I bought a sunburst version, made in Mexico. It was poorly set up right out of the box, so I had to fiddle with it to get the action right. It took about a half-hour due to the truss rod screw being located at the heel of the neck, requiring me to remove the neck to make any adjustments. But I was able to set the action nice and low and even a year later, it still plays like a dream.

The bass has a nice variety of tones using the volume pots and tone pot, but I usually play with both volumes full on to cut through the guitarists!

But the neck is the thing. The normal Jazz taper is so lovely to play anyway, but with this Geddy Lee-style thinner neck it practically plays itself. It makes me sound a lot better than I actually am.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

i started playing bass in 1985 and all my previous basses were active until i got my geddy lee jazz bass. i love this bass and it will be with me to the grave. its the black model and looks better in the flesh than on any pictures i have seen. it plays like a dream, the sound cuts through my band so well. this is the only bass ive had where my band members have said what a great sound i have and now my band mates insist i use it exclusively with them. the gloss finish on the neck and body are like glass, the chrome on the fender stamped vintage tuners is flawless as it is on the leo quan bridge. the only thing i would consider changing would be the white pic guard to a black single ply but thats a maybe. would i buy another if this bass was stolen ????..IN A HEART BEAT
