I got this bass as a gift for my daughter who recently took up the bass as part of our church praise band. My wife and I wanted to get her something nice that wouldn't break the bank. Even though she's just starting out, we wanted to get her a guitar that she could treasure for years to come. I looked around and the Fender Standard fit the bill. I love the folks at Musician's Friend. Not only did they match a deal I could get at another site, but it arrived withing a few days and was all set up and ready to play right out of the box. This saved more I didn't have to pay for set up.
Not a lot of frills but lots of great sound.
This is a beautiful instrument. Fender really puts together a quality product.
Best price on the web!
I play a lot, this guitar will do just about everything needed to play in any situation. Get the right strings, the right cord, and the attitude that you need to take care of your Guitar, and this Precision will not let you down. I have played lots of guitars, just sold a much more exspensive stingray, for me, now, I like the warm tone of this Fender Precision. I would recommend this guitar to any one whether it is an up-grade, or for the first timer who just needs to go ahead and start off right.
Not a lot of Knobs, but then not needed.
It is a Fender....what else is needed
For this money, you could waste a lot more on other brands and regret later on, I know that is what happened to me, then spent wise money and went back to this Fender.
I purchased this bass in 2007 (mine is a 2006 model) and i have fallen in love with it. I have played numerous more expensive basses and always come back to this one. The action came perfect right out of the box and it plays like a dream for the money. I play mostly distorted music like that of Death From Above 1979 and this bass performs as though it should have cost twice as much. For anyone looking for a solid workhorse bass, or if you are looking for an excellent bass to begin on (wich is what i did) then this bass is excellent. My only complaint is that the bridge lowers it self after numerous performances, but it is a small problem compared that is easily corrected. I highly suggest this bass to anybody for any style of music.
Wow.. That's all I can say really... This bass is amazing!! Before I got this one, all I used were Ibanez basses. But this bass is incredible! I think I found my new brand! I got this guitar for a surprise gig that I only had a week to prepare for. Musicians Friend sent it fast! I got it in three days and no problems out of the box! The strings felt a little weird though. But I guess it's just because they weren't my brand. I just put some Knuckle Head's on it and the sound is at maximum potential! I play a mix between slap and smooth bass styles, and this bass is the best of both worlds! When you ply with your fingers or a felt pick, the sound is nice and thumpy, or smooth as glass depending on the tone. When you play slap, it's as nasty as you want it to be! This is an amazing bass! If you have the extra money and can't decide, here ya go... Get this one!!!
I have been an active musician for over 26 years, recorded demos with tribute bands Van Heaven and Up The Irons, an album with La Orquesta Samecumba and done jingles for different non-profit org's. promotional videos and media. Having played Ibanez, Kramer, Gibson, Yamaha, Squier, Dean, Cort and numerous other brand basses on the market throughout time, I can only say that I now understand why all records in all walks of music that have been so successful throughout their lifespans have all featured a Fender P as their main bass guitar. I switched the pickups to a pair of Dimarzio Model Ps, the bridge to a Hipshot Style A and the strings to D'Addario flatwounds and damn does this baby rock hard now, but so warm, deep and smooth at the same time! The bass' neck is very easy to play and this baby covers just about any and every style of music out there today! Thank you Steve Harris for introducing me to this wonderful piece of work!
Well i have played many basses over the years and by many brands.Been to NAMM and have played alot a great basses, but I love Fenders. they just feel right and feel like "home" to me. I have a MIM P-Bass and it honestly feels and plays as the American made ones.I dont see what the fuss is over whether its made here or in Mexico its a Fender :)And I love Fender because they make great guitars and basses, and most of your favorite records have been recorded with Fenders they Rock!!!!
Great instrument. Honestly, all but one of the Fenders I have owned in my life have been Mexican made. Solid construction, frets feel the same as the $1200 American basses. I am especially happy with the newest Standards because they finally make them with a maple fingerboard. Its much easer to see on dark stages. Over time, it seems like there have been improvements in the quality of parts and construction at the Mexican factory but even back in 1997 when this bass cost $200, there didn't seem to be much difference in the American models except price. Of course, when I was 15 I thought this meant they were some how superior. The Americans might weigh a little more but after 4 hours on stage your shoulder will thank you for using lighter basses.
I am 61 and paid a lot of dues in clubs and theatres for 22 years. I have owned Fenders,Rics, Hofners, Kramers and Ibanez basses and have played a few Gibsons as well. For jazz, my fretless Ibanez does the trick but I wanted a P Bass to cover anything else. This bass is gorgeous! It sounds awesome and looks beautiful! I asked my wife to make sure I get buried with this Standard P Bass. The setup and fret work is great and the paintjob is a knockout!
The neck feels smooth and is a little thinner than other basses I have played so for me anyway it is just perfect. The stock pickup has plenty of power and does not emit any noise! Overall it has just a great feel and will work for many different musical situations. Out of the box I had to adjust the action because it wasn't to my preference, but that is no big deal. The price tag I think is a big high $549 considering this is an import, but it does have that FENDER name on it so you can expect it to retain it's value over time and be a good investment! Overall, highly recommended and pleased with this bass.
I just got this bass guitar. I love the guitar, its got a nice feel to it, and a really nice tone to it. I went to my local music store, and they set the neck up for me. I got new strings for it, Ernie Ball strings, but im thinking about switching them out again, with another brand. My only complaint is that the intonation on my bass was set wrong, and I needed to reset it, but other then that Really good but for the price, and really worth it
