I just purchased this Mexican P-Bass and can't believe how nice it is. Right out of the box, and I would never think I'd be saying 'PERFECT'. The setup is right on. The Pot's and Cap. have great range. The finish is high gloss Black, very nice. Four months ago I purchased a 2012 American Standard P-Bass. It needed to be setup and I had to swap out the Pot's and Cap.. I paid less then half for this Mexican bass compared to my American made bass. It play's great, had a gig this weekend and it's so warm sounding. It sounds like I've had it for years. It's much lighter then the American also, which is good for your back. I would highly recommend this bass regardless of your playing level. You can't lose.

I tried this thing out five times at 3 music stores, excpeting one to be perfect since i've heard fenders are inconsistent when it comes to quality.the tones it's self is descent but doesn't offer much. It's very bright, which makes it good for slap funk, punk and metal, and tone rolled of it's okay for blues. The annoying parts of it are the action, which is a tad bit too high, and the strings buzz. Maybe this can be changed i'm not sure, but if you buy it, expect you might need to do a little work on it.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass Guitar:

I've got ten basses. Ranging from an inexpensive Rogue fretless to a Schecter Stargazer, a couple of Epiphones [T-bird Pro Classic IV & El Capitan acoustic] (love the thin necks) , Hofner, a 2004 MIM Fender J and a few others.
I got my '96 MIM P bass on the cheap from a pawn shop for near nothing. After I cleaned off the stickers and DNA I found that one of the pots (volume I think) was beyond cleaning. I replaced it with a genuine Fender pot.
While the J bass neck is just a tad better in my hand, the tone of the MIM P is just so...satisfying.
It was a bit boomy on the E string and lowering the pup height worked but didn't please the eye. So I reversed the pickup positions. Bingo, that did the trick. The rest was just tweaking, string height, intonation etc. All in all I've got less than 300.00 and maybe 3 hours of my labor in it.
Now it is my primary. I play a combination of classic and alt. rock with a bit of prog, emo, and semi-acoustic on the side. This bass does it all with only minor adjustments on the amp for tonal changes.
I can get the same (or nearly so) tones from both the J bass or the T-bird, but it takes a lot more adjusting and fiddling with both the amp and on board controls.
If someone stole it I would definitely seek another.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass Guitar:

I got my Mim Lake Placid Blue in trade for a 5 string D'Armond of all things. I immediately noticed how comfortable it was. I was gigging with a Red Japanese Fender Jaguar Bass but eventually switched to this for the the simplicity and comfort. It had Duncan Basslines when I got it but I've added graphite saddles, a thumb rest and some very cool, very old black Pyramid round wound strings that a friend gave me. I don't think you can get these strings anymore so I better be gentle. I get compliments on the thing sometimes and it's my baby. The Jaguar comes along as a backup.

This was rated Good Condition 2 and arrived in NZ looking fine and apart from a neck that needed a week or so to get well adjusted was all good. After replacing the strings with D'Addario Chromes ECB81 it's happy days down under. No bag, just a guitar in the box, was a bit disappointing but.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass Guitar:

Looked at several basses before deciding on the Brown Sunburst, Alder body, 34" scale, Rosewood fret board, 20 medium jumbo fret, 9.5" radius, Mexican Fender Standard Precision Bass. Mine has "Precision Bass 1951-2011 60 years" stamped into the neck plate. After playing the bass as received changed to: Flat wound strings (if nothing else, change out the factory strings with new flat or round wounds), Basslines Quarter Pounder SPB 3 P bass pickup, 60's P bass pick guard with 4 additional holes for tug and pickup cover, Fender thumb rest used as tug, Fender pickup and bridge covers, Ernie Ball strap locks along with Fender "Vintage" leather guitar strap. Using rubber cement glued 1/4" thick packing foam cut to size into the bridge cover for muting. Play through a Boss GT 10B or Korg Pandora into headphones or Tech 21 Power Engine 60.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass Guitar:

This MIM P Bass has decent pickups and sounds great. It looks well except the finish of fret board. It requires works to make into a good instrument to play. The edges of the 20 frets on the top and bottom required smooth filing. Mine was pretty rough and scratched my fingers during fret transition. The brown finish on the fret board was uneven with white blemishes.

The bottom line: It sounds sound, but need loving tender care before it is playable. I recommend this instrument only to those who enjoy tinkering around with their guitars, and does not mind some rough around the edges. If you want a hassle free instrument and play straight out of the box, then this is not for you.
