All the advantages of the original at an unbeatable price.

The Fender Starcaster Jazz Bass is a great choice for beginning bass players with ambition. It's based on the classic 1960s Jazz Bass that has been the choice of some of the world's best players.

The lure of the Jazz Bass
The Jazz Bass has a tone that is bright with rich midrange. It's perfect for players who want to be more forward in the mix and is ideal for the bassists of smaller bands or power trios. Geddy Lee of Rush and Jaco Pastorius are two standout bassists known for their preference for using Fender Jazz Basses.

What makes the Jazz Bass special
Three features distinguish the Jazz bass from a Fender Precision bass—the neck, the pickup configuration, and the contoured body The fast-action neck of the Starcaster Jazz Bass is narrower and more rounded than the Precision, encouraging rapid runs and causing less hand fatigue. Dual single-coil pickups supply a wider variety of tones with a potentially brighter sound than the Precision Bass. Individual volume controls and a master tone are available to blend the two pickups and dial in just the right sound for the job. Finally, the offset body is extremely comfortable and well-balanced.

        It all comes togther
Playability, sound, and comfort. The Starcaster Jazz Bass has everything the future virtuoso requires to be inspired and, with dedication, to join the bass playing elite.

        Features
        • Full size Jazz Bass electric bass with rosewood fingerboard and hi-gloss black finish
        • Two single-coil pickups, one volume control and two tone controls offer a huge array of tones
        • Slim, easy-to-play "fast action" neck

What do you expect for a bass guitar by Fender costing this much? If you're looking for a professional-playing bass, then obviously, you'll pay much (much) more, but I feel like I easily got a bass guitar costing twice as much for what I paid. I couldn't be happier with the quality and playability of this Indonesia-made "Fender" jazz bass. The only negative comment I have to make is with the setup. If you are expecting to pull this bass out of the box and start playing, then forget it. It does not come "set up" at the factory, so you WILL find the neck bowed (considerably, in my case) and you WILL experience "fret buzz", but not to worry. The minor adjustments you need to make are easy (tools provided) and you can find instruction videos all over YouTube. I straightened out the neck and the action by adjusting the truss rod nut and the saddles myself, and it plays FLAWLESSLY; low action with no fret buzz! I really love this bass. I only wish they had treated/varnished the headstock (I also did this myself). The pickups are OK (replace them with better ones if you want) and the controls actually work - I can achieve very bright tones (hence, "jazz bass") and subterranean tones too. I recommend this bass for beginners and the intermediate player who likes to fool around with home recording.

Overall, this bass is okay for beginners. I've been playing for 6 years and got this bass last summer. In my opinion, I'd go with a "Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass". The constint buzzing drives me crazy as a bass player.
This bass is okay for beginners. I wouldn't recomend it. Theres things that I like about it and theirs also things that I don't like about it.
The quality to this bass isnt good. The strings buzz horribly, neck dosn't have a good feel to it, pick-up's sound pretty bad. But the body shape is very comfortable,

Comments about Fender Starcaster J Bass:

My 5-star rating is based on value for the price. I'm not trying to compare it with basses costing several hundreds or even thousands, although I do think it would still be worthwhile for more than the sale price I paid.

I bought this bass as an extra "controller" for playing Rocksmith 2014. I also use it as something quick to grab when taking a break from work because I can keep it in a higher traffic area without worrying so much about it getting knocked over.

Straight out of the box (actually it was triple-boxed for shipping), the intonation was perfect. I can't even say that for my more expensive bass. There's a little fret buzz (mostly because of my playing ability - or lack thereof), but no more than my "good" one. I may take it in for a setup, or I may try it myself as a "guinea pig" to see what more I can get out of it.

I would not hesitate to get one of these for a beginner or to have an extra laying around as a backup or a "beater". I wouldn't expect to use it as a primary performing bass, but that should be common-sense at this price.

Comments about Fender Starcaster J Bass:

This is a very nice bass for any player or beginner. For the price you can't beat it for practicing. If it gets damaged, it's not like you are out $1K or more. This is a Fender labeled product. You can't touch a Rogue, Dean, Squier or other low end instrument for this kind of price. I got mine while it was 99, but even at 199 it is still a great bass.

It came well packaged, in great shape, the initial setup was spot on except for some minor tuning adjustments; overall, a beautiful entry level bass guitar and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!!

Comments about Fender Starcaster J Bass:

I got this bass just a week ago because the bass that I have you need a battery in the back of it for it to work and it required a 9 volt, which got to be very expensive. I have been playing for about two years now full time with a group out of my church. I have never owned a fender bass the one that i have and played with for two year is a pevey bass, this fender bass is slinder in the back and very easy to hold. I did have some trouble in getting it tuned opened and at the tenth fret but with a little time I got it done. This bass is growing on me but I have to say that it's ranking up their.

Comments about Fender Starcaster J Bass:

I bought this for myself and because I wanted to try a jazz bass before I spent alot of money on an American jazz bass. I loved the bass, it felt really cheap because it was light, but it sounded really good. It stayed in tune. It has a five bolt bridge standard fender type. I was going to mod it put a new bridge like a babicz or a Leo Quan bass bridge. I bought America special tuners for it and new pickups and a pickguard. Mine was Sunburst and it looked nice. Even though it was cheap people liked it and made comments about it's looks. I ended up giving it away to a friends kid after I bought an American Fender Jazz Bass, but it was a nice instrument.

Comments about Fender Starcaster J Bass:

All the reviews say it's great for the new player. Well, if you are a new player, how many guitars have you purchased? My guess is close to ZERO. So maybe, just maybe, the seller might think to tell the buyer that it comes with nothing but a couple Allen wrenches, no strap, no cord, and absolutely no instructions what-so-ever.

I got this for my 12 y/o daughter. I've never played, she's never played, no one in the house has ever played. So we have no idea what to even do with the Allen wrenches, other than pick our noses. She's messing around, plucking the strings, but no power cord means she can't adjust the sound with the knobs that we have no idea what they do, because THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX.

Perhaps the seller could have made additional sales had they presented me with the info I needed to make this a complete package. Amazon tells me the other nifty stuff prior buyers combined with the thing I'm buying, why cant musicfriend do this?
