I wanted to learn bass and my wife looked at me like I was crazy. I showed her this nice-looking bass at a very reasonable price and she said okay. The day it arrived I took out of the box and upon inspection both pickups had fallen to the body. No worries, I was buying a jazz master or music man and I had Musician's Friend backing the purchase. One quick call, five minutes of packing, it was on its way back and a new one was on its way. The new one arrived in great shape!

I have had a ton of fun learning on this bass. I see a lot of complaints about fret buzz, but I'm no performing artist and have had little problems with buzz. I would recommend this instrument to someone just starting out and learning what to look for in a better bass. Overall it serves it's purpose and has a fun sound for me!

When I first got this, I was very happy with the look and feel. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of fret buzz & the 2nd string buzzed when open too. I also noticed that my 3rd & 4th strings sounded about 1/2 as loud as the 1st & 2nd string. Within a week the electronics of the bottom pickup fell apart and inside the bass. The pickup housing is still attached to the pick guard. Now I know why it sounded bad. I was loving this when I first got it. But quickly, the fret buzz and then the pickup self destruction soured my experience. I'm about to send it back and find out how hassle free or not Musician's Friend is with returns. I will write a review of my experience and the replacement bass is.

As it stands now, I would like to recommend this bass to a fried. It played nice but the low Quality Control, fret buzz and pickup falling apart a few days after getting it keeps me from being able to do so. I will give it another try when I get the replacement.

Comments about Fender Starcaster P Bass:

Looks cool on stage next to Starcaster J bass. Decent sound compared to Squire and Rogue basses. Added set of round wounds and sounds really good. Not to heavy to play 3 sets. Wish they came in colors. Very happy with both Starcaster basses. You should have one or two in your arsenal.

Comments about Fender Starcaster P Bass:

It's a great bass for someone with large hands, such as myself. The strings are pre-adjusted, but there was still a little fret buzz. Adjusting it a bit myself fixed that. Sounds great through an amp, but I wouldn't downtune it too far down. If you're looking to play anything lower than C, I'd just buy a five string or buy a pitch shifter.

Comments about Fender Starcaster P Bass:

Been playing this almost every day since I got it. Adjusted the setup, added a piece of paper under the A string at the nut to eliminate fret buzz and it's been good to go. Only complaint is the unfinished sharp fret ends. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'm sure I can fix with a little fine grit sandpaper. Impressive performance for the price I paid. Very happy with the purchase.

I purchased this bass for my 6 year old son to learn on, I began playing at the age of eight and wanted my son to learn at a young age. This bass is great for that, has a good sound and easy to learn on and inexpensive in case it gets damaged!!!!!

Purchased to use with Rocksmith. Noticed a lot of fret buzz as delivered, probably a combination of setup and beginner technique.

Holds tune well, I feel like it's a great instrument for the money.

Wasn't expecting this much sound and easy play from a bass guitar in this price range! Love it! Only problem was a little buzz on small E but a quick fix with using tiny piece of cardboard on nut under string and ........bam! no buzzzzz!!! Little problem not worth returning to MF and I'd done this so many times before!

Comments about Fender Starcaster P Bass:

The first bass was in very bad shape. Strings buzzed, Knobs were falling off and stripped at the threads and the pick-up for the low strings was just a piece of wood. The insides were missing. The replacement was much better but it still it left a bitter taste of the fender corp ande musician,s friend for poor inspection of product before being sent and then the rep for Musician's Friend telling me what was I expecting for price. That's not the service I expected from a company that I've been doing business for many years.
