Genz-Benz

300W of Genz-Benz tone that are portable and practical.

The 3.0 bass amp from the Shuttle series was developed by Genz•Benz for professional players who require an easily transported, great sounding, and flexible bass amplification system that is also full-featured.

The heart of the Genz-Benz Shuttle series is the lightweight amplifier design. This 2.75 lb. amplifier is available as a "head only" or in combo versions delivering 175 watts at 8 ohms and 300 watts at 4 ohms. In the combo models, the amp chassis can be easily removed from it's combo "saddle" in seconds and carried to a larger gig in the pocket of your bass case or the available carry bag.

The amp head is extremely useful as a standalone unit, with a headphone output that is excellent for quiet, personal practice sessions. You can adjust the volume level and tone you hear with the preamp, and, using the Post EQ setting on the DI, you can turn the Shuttle into an outstanding preamp for recording.

The Shuttle features power, punch, tone, versatility, and Genz•Benz quality in a lightweight package. Whether you have fly-in dates, in-home recording or practice sessions, here is a bass solution that is ready to go where you need to, easily fitting in your gig bag.

I just bought the shuttle last month.  I did a brief test in the music store but then took it home and it really put out.  The kicker though was taking it to my church and plugging into my big rig.  The shuttle put out just as much as my 800 RB.......WOW.  You can't beat 3 pounds!!!  I definately recommend this head especially for those who, like me, have "back" issues and need lighter equipment but also want quality sound.  Definately worth the money.

The Musicians Cure to Back Pain

The first thing I noticed when I pulled this head out of the box was, of course the weight.  I'm a bass player with constant lower back pain, so it just was not practical to carry around a 40 lb head anymore.  When I looked at it, I didn't see any kind of vent, any kind of fan, just a solid metal casing.  Really makes you wonder what weighs anything inside of it. For features, it has a D.I. section as complex and flexible as any passive D.I. box.  The FET preamp sounds super crystal clear; you hear your bass, not the amp.  The EQ is very easy to dial in your tone with in a hurry, especially with the flexibility of the parametric mids. Sound-wise, it could be louder, but it is very powerful for its size and weight. It can drive a 4 ohm 6x10 fairly well, but  I wouldn't recommend trying to use it on its own at a rock gig.  You need PA support.  It's also very bass-y, be prepared to cut the low eq.  With it's clarity, it sounds like crap with a cheap bass.  I'm using a custom electric upright bass, and a custom fretless bass.  Both sound amazing through it because they are of high end exotic woods, and are of very high end construction. This head is a wonderful solution to someone with back issues, or someone who needs something light.  It isn't the panacea of heads, but it does what it was designed to do perfectly. Please, don't buy this head thinking you will sound good.  The clarity brings out bad technique, and bad instruments.  If you're looking for a "classic" sound, you won't be able to get it.
