A thunderous bass with looks to kill.

Way back in 1952 the Les Paul Standard established itself as the finest solidbody electric guitar available to the six-string player. The Les Paul Standard Bass from Gibson USA takes that legendary styling and the classic features of the Les Paul's design and construction and applies them to the low end, with an "oversized" Les Paul body that is more proportional to the dimensions of the bass guitar, to give you a bass with traditionally elegant styling, but a tone all its own. The look is so familiar you'll do a double-take to confirm that this is indeed a four-string bass, and the Les Paul Standard Bass does for the low end what its six-string predecessor does for lead guitar. From gut-thumping rumble to punchy funky snap, it's also extremely flexible and suitable to any genre, thanks to the simple yet versatile pickup and electronics complement that has made the Les Paul six-string so adaptable for nearly 60 years.

Like the most revered Les Paul Standards of all time, the Les Paul Standard Bass starts with the classic tonewood combination of a mahogany body with solid carved maple top. Together, these woods offer outstanding tonal depth and richness from the mahogany, with superb clarity and "snap" from the maple. In this model, the strategic placement of several tone chambers enhances resonance while also reducing the guitar's overall weight considerably. The glued-in solid-mahogany neck is cut to the superior "quarter-sawn" grain orientation for superior strength and optimum resonance transfer between neck and body. The neck is carved to a comfortably rounded profile that increases gradually from .860" at the 1st fret to .960" at the 12th fret, and topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with traditional trapezoid inlays. The bass has a PLEK-cut Corian nut, and, to further maximize vibrational energy, Gibson includes its legendary Tune-o-matic bridge and stud-mounted wraparound tailpiece, arguably the most storied hardware combination in the history of the electric guitar, adapted here for the four-string instrument.

All this tonal goodness is cranked through a pair of Gibson USA's TB+ humbucking pickups, with ceramic magnets for enhanced punch and clarity to maximize the potential of this timeless maple and mahogany design. Individual volume and tone controls and a three-way switch offer a wide range of tones. Finally, a set of highly efficient Grover® bass tuners with 20:1 a gear ratio give you optimum smoothness and precision. Add it up, and it's a powerful yet classy road to the bottom, whether you're forte is rock, jazz, country, or metal.

    Great bass!

    By Melissa Connell

    from New York City

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Standard OSB Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a terrific bass! I'm used to playing a P-bass which I thought was everything a bass could be, but this Gibson bass gives Fender a run for the money. Rich sound with a great variety of tones, great playability, heavy? Yes, but like the price, it's worth it! While it will never replace my Precision, it's versatility ranks it just about equal.

    Wow!!! I Love this Bass!!!

    By Vincent Wynne

    from Nashville

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Standard OSB Electric Bass Guitar:

Once I put flat wounds on this bass it will be the only bass I will ever need for all my projects.
Two Humbuckers with 2 volume/2 tone knobs gives you all the tonal options you could want from boomy lows to lots of top end. I use the neck pickup with my tone knob almost all the way down to get very warm boomy low tones. This bass has balls.
I have the Goldtop. The mahogany is grade A so the back is one-piece and gorgeous just like the back on a Custom Shop '57 Reissue. Great (pre-raid) Indian Rosewood fretboard. The setup out of the box was perfect for my taste. The fit and finish were as close to perfect as I can imagine, considering it is hand-crafted. The bass weighs 11 pounds, very manageable weight with zero neck dive. It feels great, and the over-sized (chambered) body looks right proportionally.
Not an inexpensive bass, but you get what you pay for. Beautiful wood, amazing craftsmenship, great tone, great versatility.

My new Gold Top LP Bass

    By Jack Marek

    from So. Cal.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Standard OSB Electric Bass Guitar:

I own a few Gibsons which are made much better than this. I would not buy this bass again.
I really hate to say this. After waiting for months...This bass from the factory was not set up in any way, shape or form although the Gibson card said it had been done and checked before leaving the factory.
I tweaked the neck put Roto's on and set the intonation, then gigged it hard this last Saturday night.
It is a bass and it has tone, but my Indonisian Ibanez SR700 more than slightly blows it straight off the map.
After standing with this brick on my shoulder for one night, I'm probably just going to hang it on the wall to look at.
Not the greatest workmanship. And definitely not anywhere near what it should be at this price. Overall it appears they were in some super big rush to get it out the door...
This bass has been way over hyped and is over priced for what it is.

    Legend Returns

    By Luke O'Brien

    from Australia

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Standard OSB Electric Bass Guitar:

Amazing bass with an amazing body and overall sound. It's a must have.
The original les paul body finally returns as a bass. Really want to own one. The pickups give it an amazing sound. The best the thing about the bass is the body, it is the legendary body that makes you know it is an amazing bass.
Great quality bass made by Gibson and they always make amazing bases and guitars. Can't any better quality bass than this.
On the higher end of the scale as far as price goes however it is worth it for a bass like this.

    Awesome Bass

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Standard OSB Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass on closeout last time they were made, about 3-4 years ago. I had always wanted a Les Paul bass and was mindlessly looking around and realized they were discontinued. So, I bit the bullet and took it home. A beautiful Honeyburst (lighter color than the sunburst offered here now) model with a very nice plush Gibson case. I was not disappointed. Coming from Gibson USA, it was exceptionally well made. The neck is amazing, and the sounds produced by it are awesome. I'll play straight into my GK "Microbass" combo amp without any need for effects or other tweaking. The bass plays wonderfully. Only drawback is that this thing is very very heavy. Get a comfortable strap if you plan on standing with this thing for any length of time.
