Let me try to put it into perspective. I own an American Fender Jazz 5 string, a Music Man SLO 4 string and a Warwick jazzman 4 string. All three are the finest guitars I've ever played; until now. Out of the box, the G&L L2000 was in tune. The action is perfect and the neck is sound. The electronics are superb. The one thing that I like best is the active/passive switching ability. I've compared it to each of the other basses, one by one, playing the same riffs to help determine if I had made a good investment. Attention: Fender Jazz 5 string, Music Man SLO 4 string & Warwick Jazzman 4 string for sale.

Solid bass but case was damaged/smashed in shipping. Also the bass does not fit snugly in the case (damaged or not) and rattles around leaving the instrument vulnerable to damage. Called MF multiple times and they told me they would resolve the case issue but never did. Terrible customer service and you will need to buy a new case or gig bag for it.

Old L-2000 Series E, Really Incredible

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a true professional instrument. It's a functional tool and a piece of craftsmenship which you will enjoy and value for years.
Top quality electronics and hardware. All of the sounds you'' ever need, but still has it's own identity.
Built like it was hand made in the Fender facotry back in the 50's - even better.
I think most instruments are way over-priced these days. But G&L gives you much more for your money than similar basses.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

Myne is brand new U.S. Red Transparent purchased 10/2009. I was after Phil Lesh/Mike Gordon sound. They both use a Modulus bass, I know, but this is the closest sound I have found. Playing with a Pick gives you this 70's Phil Lesh sound. It can also sounds like a Rick while playing with a pick. Did I mention how great it works with Overdrive? Playing with fingers, gives this huge clear boom you can hear on first Phish album (When Mike Gordon actually recorded with a G&L).I use it for Jazz or Southern Rock Improvisation, 80's Gothic. I also have a US G&L 5 string which I use when I need a 5th. The 5 string is 12 years older and has a cleaner sound. This one is a bit dirtyer. I play Dead, Phish, MOE, Yes ans System of a Down with it.While active electronic was on, it was catching all EM signals and was buzing bad. The stuff they spray in the cavity does not do the trick. But after covering the electronic cavity with coper, it's dead quiet. It took me about 20 minutes to do the job.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is a joy to play. I've played quite a few stringed instruments over the years, and I think this one may be the finest. I have had many different musicians come up to me during gigs and comment on how great this bass sounds. I live far from any music stores and bought this bass without ever playing it. My only guide was these reviews. The reviews are right on. I am completely pleased with the L-2000. The tone is incredible! This baby can even growl. I can't say enough good things about this instrument.
The array of sounds that are available is incredible. I can dial in anything from a P-bass to the most wicked slap/ pop funk sounds. The switches can be a little intimidating at first, but it didn't take long to get everything down. I now change sounds in the middle of a song and barely miss a beat. Extra large strap buttons are very secure.
This is a finely crafted and beautiful instrument. The set up right out of the box was perfect. Controls are smooth and quiet. The only flaw was some very minor surface scratches on the back of the bass. They were not serious enough for me to think about returning it.

I had the L-2000 Series e back in the 80's and was looking to replace it. That was the best bass I've ever played....until now. This instrument turned out to be much, much more then I anticipated. The tonal range is massive and colorful. I bought the used one because the new one kept getting pushed back and was pleasantly surprised that the only damage was on the case. I am very happy with this purchase. Thanks.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

This was the first time I ventured into buying a high end bass. I was not disappointed. This is my favorite bass in the collection of 12. I play all of the basses but this is the one I keep coming back to. The action is tight and responsive. The sustain just rings forever. The preamp and tone controls give a range that is amazing. I use this bass for heavy metal and it growls. I also like slap and pop and it handles that equally well. The tuners are great and the bass holds it tune forever even with agressive playing. Love to say more but the urge to play just came over me.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought my bass for 700 USD, It's from 1984, and it works beautifully. It has never been repaired and still plays like new. The low action, fat bridge, and big buckers make this bass great for slapping, but the coil selector, and position selector make it capable of almost anything. Its like 4 or 5 basses in one!

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

In short, this is the highest quality and most versatile bass I've played or owned. I chose this G&L (L-2000, figured maple top in honeyburst) over the Fender American P-bass deluxe and don't regret my decision. Electronics have plenty of headroom, yet are simple and sound great. This is Leo Fender's pinnacle in bass design, enough said.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a really fantastic instrument with a wide range of sounds. With the neck pickup in series and the preamp on or in passive you can sound almost spot on like a P bass. The bridge pickup can do a Jazz sound really well, and the two pickups together are just a massive punch. The neck is profile is midway between a J bass and a P bass and the fretboard is comfortable to play. It's a bass you could really use for everything including professional gigs and be satisfied. The price of a brand new one seems a bit steep, but if you can find one used or b-stock you'll have a great deal.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

I give this amazing bass a solid five across the board, perfectly setup, easy to play with amazing sound. Wouldn't trade it for anything, best bass I've ever played. Do need to share a couple of things though. A few decades ago, I was a carpenter and I know the difference between ash and alder. The body on mine is alder, beautiful to be sure, but it's not swamp ash as I thought I was purchasing. Second, the certificate says the nut width is 1 5/8", the specs for purchasing it say 1 3/4". It's 1 3/4" according to my tape measure, no doubt. I have big hands and this was a spec I wanted. Somewhere between this ad to purchase, the factory and the person filling out the certificate is a serious lack of understanding and communication. Back to the bass. Sweet, fun to play and versatile beyond imagination. The quality all around is exceptional. I recommend it to serious players that want the best.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

I went into a guitar store to buy a backup jazz bass and I walked out with this G&L. I've been so impressed with these basses that i'm selling my jazz, precision and stingray so i can buy two more of these; a fretless and a 5-string. With 18 different tonal chioces, and active & passive pick-ups you can literally make this one bass sound like any fender or musicman; it sounds better too. Oh, and the neck feels better than any other bass that i've ever come into contact with. Doesn't matter if you're into metal, funk, jazz, indie, alt, ect... this bass can handle anything. Leo Fender may have invented the first bass, the most popular bass, and the first bass to feature active electronics, but he perfected the bass when he made this one. Try one out, you'll probably end up buying it; then sell your other basses because i guarentee they'll start to collect dust when you forget about them and store them in the closet.

My only dissatisfaction was no matching headstock color as shown in the picture on the order page, what's up ??? I thought about returning it but it does play and sound just fine.

Comments about G&L L-2000 Electric Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for about 3 years now. I was looking for a good semi high end bass. I was sitting in the store, with a music man, and a warwick infront of me. The clerk that was helping me out reached for the rack and pulled down an L-2000. Just looking at it I was in love. The huge bridge, the beefy humbuckers, the P-Bass look, and those switches! I plugged it in and from the first note I knew this was the one. The Warwick was too expensive, and i could get its tone out for the L-2000! The music man was great (I love Leo Fender Designs best) but I could get a better sound out of the L-2000. To make a long story short, I ended up with the L-2000 in Blue Burst with a rosewood fret board. I've played a handfull of gigs and used it for neumrous jamm sessions and band practices. There is hardly anything this bass can't do. Infact I'm working on selling my Fender 5-String Jazz and concidering getting a G&L L-2500 to replace it!
