A "just right" mix of vintage and contemporary!

It's no secret that G&L makes great guitars, whether they be traditional electric guitars or bass. This particular model has a beautifully finished alder body and a hard rock maple neck wood that will give you a sound that deftly rides the fine line between warm and mellow and bright and snappy.

Picking up your latest grooves are a pair of G&L vintage alnico jazz-type pickups, and you can adjust your sound with 2 volume and one tone controls.
It also features the patented G&L Saddle-Lock bridge, which features an Allen screw that presses all the saddles together, helping them resonate as one. You'll lose less string vibration energy caused by side-to-side saddle movement than you would with other guitars.

With no pickguard, you get to see the naturally beauty of the wood, and the chrome hardware is a nice complement as well. All in all, this is a great guitar at a great price. With plenty of hooks and looks, it's just waiting for your hands to give it something to do.

Natural finish comes with a rosewood fretboard, 3-tone sunburst with maple fretboard.

  • Pickups: 2 G&L vintage alnico jazz-type pickups
  • Body wood: Alder
  • Neck wood: Hard rock maple with rosewood (on natural finish) or maple (on 3-tone sunburst finish) fingerboard
  • Neck radius: 12"
  • Neck width at nut: 1-1/2"
  • Tuning keys: Custom G&L Ultra-Lite with aluminum tapered string posts
  • Bridge: G&L Saddle Lock with chrome-plated brass saddles
  • Controls: 2 volume controls, one tone control
  • Finish: Standard

Not Too Bad...You Get What You Pay For

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

Okay, I can't afford a really nice J-Bass with all the killer bling that comes with it. However, this G&L JB-2 more than does the job. Before I give you the skinny, this bass is plugged into Ampeg's new Micro Cab/Head system using high end Monster Cables (gold plate edition). The Goods: Really light weight, great narrow fast neck, beautiful wood work, simplicity matched with gorgeous tone ranging from complex mellow-in-the-background to rich-in-your-face-boom-growl; rosewood frettboard brings out the bright punchy end for those wanting to slap; The Huh?/WT...?: Cheap volume/pick-up knobs (gotta adjust them every now and then or they turn loppsided and scratch the finish); no pick guard; depending on how you adjust the volume/pick-up knobs, you can get a slight hiss-low-white noice through the amp, but that can be compensated by not turning two or more knobs at max; you may want to consider upgrading the pick-ups; finger at or above the forward pick-up can cause a lot of buzzing if you move sloppy. All in all, I really like this baby regardless of the minor stuff which really is minor. I own a Ray34 (Stingray Replica) Sterling by Musicman and the JB-2 is a huge contrast to my Ray, but a great compliment. For those of you who can afford more than a Squier, but think the Fender Jazz Bass of the modern era suck, and the Musicman affordable editions are not your cup of tea, then this G&L JB-2 should be on top of your list for consideration!

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

I was surprised how well this bass plays. The price was very good, which is almost unknown in G&L circles. It is a passive bass and sounds fairly decent in its form. Comfortable, and has an ability to allow the strings to be set low. It's a relatively simple bass with no frills, and does the job well. I must also add that I use an Eden direct box with tone control,so it mimics a bass with active electronics.

My only complaints were the fret edges being rough and unfinished, which I carefully filed down. String action was a little high after arrival, so I tightened the neck and made string height much lower. These are small quips and with the reduced price i bought the JB-2, it's still a great bass and value for a musician. I also use an MIM pre bass, and the overall quality is about the same with exception to the pickups, which the G&L's are superior with American-made pickups. Fender MIM pickups are weak and lack full tone. I changed that one out and used a '62 reissue that improved the MIM pre bass. I use the G&L and Fender as workhorse basses for weekend gigs, since it's dumb to tear up highly prized and valuable instruments onstage.

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

Had a few bass guitars in my time. Brought this Bass June this yr. Pull the Bass out of the gig bag, tune it in. Plug it in the old Hartke amp. I was suprised, of the nice action it has and the blance is nice. the controls are tight. The neck is smooth. No string buzzing, I did replace the strings with flatwound Lot easy on the fingers. For any one looking for a great buy and nice smooth action bass. BUY This one

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

This bass is amazing for the price. when you compare it to a MIM Fender, this bass has it hands down. It's everything you want from a J style bass with nothing you don't. A great feeling neck, smooth yet punchy pickups, well just can't beat this baby. It'd be a steal at twice the price.

    Great bass!!

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

I recently bought this bass because I needed to get a second bass. I have a Fender MIM Jazz bass and it just doesnt compare to this one. I got the sunburst with the maple neck. The neck fits right into my hand and plays great. The body is comfortable and beautiful. The tone is great. I can get a fat funky tone, or I can get a sharp precise tone and everything in between. Im very satisfied with this bass. I highly recommend it

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

I just purchased this bass from MF a little over a week ago. Simply put - Great quality, great sound, great looks. An absolute great deal for the price. Like has been said in another review, this bass far exceeds the quality of the Fender MIM basses. If your looking for a bass in this price range, buy this one! You won't regret it.

    Great bass regardless of cost

Comments about G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass Guitar:

I recently purchased one of these for a gig bass and could not be more suprised. I have several early 80's G&L 2000's,SB-1's ,a 71 Tele bass and a 66 Fender Jazz Bass and this bass is the equal of them all. The playability and sound out of the box is excellent. The fit and finish are second to none. Perhaps I got an exceptional one but every Tribute bass that I have inspected was a suprise. I don't know how they do it. This one is definitley a lifetime keeper.
