Comments about G&L Tribute M2000 4-String Electric Bass:
THE M2000 FIXES THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THE L2000. I have an L2000 also. Love it but it is hard to change tones between songs and quickly dial in what you want. The M2000 fixes that with an intuitive 3 band EQ and pickup pan that works really well. It has great basic tone and punch and you can dial in whatever you want quickly and easily. Neck dive is an issue, but it is on the L2000 also (it's worth dealing with it). I did have a quality issue. The first M2000 I got had an intermittent preamp issue. Had to return the bass. The 2nd one is working like it should. Both basses had excellent fit/finish, looked and played great. I have been playing bass 40+ years, currently a semi-pro.
Pros
Cons
- Fret Buzz
- Inconsistent Tone
- Poor Quality Craftsmanship

Comments about G&L Tribute M2000 4-String Electric Bass:
I have been playing bass for more than thirty years. I was quite disappointed in this bass after reading good reviews. As soon as I took it out of the box I noticed the back of the neck was not smoothly finished. It had grit or something along the whole back of the neck and the finish coat was wavy as well. Although the variety of tones that could be dialed in with the electronics was impressive, it was not consistent across all of the strings and the whole neck, i.e. get a good tone for the high notes and the lows don't sound good and vice versa. This is not good for a bassist who moves all over the neck when he plays!
Had the neck been smooth, it was pretty easy to play and move up and down the neck. However, there was also some string buzz just in certain spots along the neck, indicating a fret problem that adjusting string height would not necessarily remedy (unless getting it ridiculously high!).
All in all I expected a much nicer quality instrument for the money. While I didn't expect high end for that price, I thought it would be better quality than it turned out to be and certainly better than some starter bass.
In the end I sent the G&L back for a full refund. This I used to fund an Ibanez Prestige 5-string bass. I haven't gotten it yet, but it cost around three times as much as the G&L and hopefully it will be well worth it!
