Comments about Godin Shifter Electric Bass Guitar:

Not a fender or a gibson, its a godin. It has an awesome range of tones i am able to get out of it. comes with a nice gig bag made by godin. The fret board isnt to narrow or fat around the back, so it is easy to move around with out feeling awkward. The mix of the maple neck and three single coils really makes for a twangy sound but if you role back on the tone and push the selector back it sounds fat as a p bass. the mid selector is great for slap and the neck pick ups sound so cutting. its passive pure tone and i wouldnt trade or sell mine. I would say you get more than you pay for, if fender or gibson put a bass out this nice they would charge over a grand. its a good versatile bass, and anyone who cares, like other bassist are going to want to know what your playing because most people wont recognize it. love it.

Comments about Godin Shifter Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass as an alternative to my Fenders. I have the blonde body and maple fretboard. I love it's retro/quirky look, slick pickups, simple control layout and string through body option. Workmanship is flawless; the neck/body fit is very tight, all hardware is good if not premium. It is also a nice weight, not too heavy. The neck seems the same as many jazz bass necks for feel and has a nice vintage tint.It does have a bit of neck dive but I'm used to that. Also it is basically a slab body; it's not going to tuck up into you like a Jazz or P bass will. I wear mine lower to help compensate but potential buyers should be aware. The only flaw is that the frets need going over, it has buzzes on the E and A stings on the 3rd 5th and 7th frets-kind of hard to ignore, even with flatwound strings. To be fair it does not detract from the sound in a band situation but it's bad enough that it bugs me just noodling around with a small amp or no amp. I am well versed at guitar repair and it's clear this thing needs a fret job. I have seen other owners mention the same thing and it's a fairly common need on new instruments but I am disappointed at the extreme of the buzzing; it should not have left the factory that way. I would have given it 5 stars otherwise.
Given the price you can get these for during the many sales online stores have, and the otherwise excellent workmanship and parts, needing the frets gone over isn't a big deal. It's a great looking and versatile bass that's fun to play and will get noticed but in the right way. Another bonus is that they are made in Canada and built in the US. Not a deal breaker for me, but I feel better these aren't stamped out overseas.

      I hope this helps someone...

      Most versital Bass out there.

Comments about Godin Shifter Electric Bass Guitar:

I just bought the cream Shifter with maple fingerboard. I think it's a good buy.The middle pick-up gives me a good growl with a little more focused tone than my '83 P-bass. The bridge pick-up ALONE is for the birds, but switch it to bridge/middle pick-up combo and you can get some nice j-bass tones. I think the neck/middle pickup combo sounds like an active p-bass (warmer). And the neck pick-up ALONE can achieve some nice Hofner Beatlebass and Gibson EB tones. If you play a lot of different styles of music, this might be the one bass you'll ever need. I found that I had to raise the pick-ups on the E string side of the bass so the E and A strings matched the volume of the G and D stings. I have a bit of a nasty fret buzz on the E string fretted below the 7th or 8th frets, but I have yet to take the instrument for a real set-up.I LOVE the neck- I'm a long time Fender bass guy, and the construction and feel are, dare I say, better than Fender's necks. The Tele style headstock with the large tuners totally sold me on the instrument.I'm happy with the overall looks of the bass, I'm even happier that 4 out of the 6 pick-up configurations are usable. Plus, in a day and age where so many instruments come out of Asia, and Fender has the balls to slap high price tags on axes coming from Mexico, I feel good about a Canadian built instrument. Construction and quality are every bit as good as what's coming out of the Corona, CA Fender factory. Thumbs up all-around in my book.

      Killer Bass

      By Unnamed User-YJzds

Comments about Godin Shifter Electric Bass Guitar:

I love this bass... I have never been good at dialing in this many tones by blending the volume between the neck and bridge pickups. This thing makes it easy. There is a five way switch and a push pull tone knob. Every selection has a great tone and all you do is adjust the bass and treble via the tone control. Kinda like a my line 6 axsys 2 amp, just press a button and you have a great sound. By the way, this bass does the slap thing very well. A top notch bass that doesn't weight a ton with three pickups and designed by people who knew what they were doing in Canada. I have the maple neck model and do like the feel.
