This is a very impressive instrument for such a modest price.  Well set up straight out of the box, easy action with no buzzes. The fretwork is extremely well finished, no sharp edges at all.  One reasonably powerful pickup and all the circuitry seems fine.  I replaced the strings with D'Addario ECB81S Chromes which are light gauge flatwounds and to my ears are a perfect match for the instrument.  Bear in mind that I'm a guitar player, not a bassist, but this instrument will fit my recording needs very well.

Well built, fast neck - Sounds great - looks great, beautiful guitar

Quality:

really good guitar - Unbeleivable now a days to really get a good deal - This is a good deal -

Value:

You just can't beat the price for the quality of this guitar -

I give this guitar 5 stars - I coudn't be happier - I can't wait to see the look on my niece's face on Christmas this coming weekend -

Overall:

Just rec'd this from MF this morning - I ordered it for my niece - I took it out of the box and coudn't beleive how nice this guitar is - I immediatley plugged it up and tested it out - This is a GREAT guitar -

I own Fender American Deluxe Strat, American Deluxe Tele , Gibson Les Paul Custom , 335, SG, Gretsch Electomatic , PRS Custom 24 10 Top ,Taylor, Martin and Blueridge Acoustic -

Sorry for all of that, but I said all that to say this - This is an awesome bass guitar for several reasons - it is light and shaped like a guitar, the neck is, fast similar to a Les Paul - The pickup seems to allow for any tone you wish to get through your amp or stompbox - This guitar plays very well and sounds great -

Beautiful Guitar, Excellent BUY ! Musicians Freinds is the best - Shipping is always FAST -

Nice Short Scale Bass

| Review By: Steve Murphy | 5 months, 2 weeks ago

1 people out of 1 found this review helpful

Features:

Nice quality, decent overall finish.  One mini-humbucker has surprisingly nice tone. Easy to play, light weight. Feels like a guitar.

Quality:

Overall fit and finish quite good. I immediately swaped out the stock strings for Roundsound short scale jazz monel flat wound strings....no comparison. The truss rod and intonation was way off but the action was pre-set fairly well. Once set-up it plays great, so much easier to play than my 35" scale HEAVY LTD.

Value:

Got it for a great price from Musicians Friend. Check it out.

Overall:

Great bass for the price once set-up. I have let other more experienced bass players have a go and they were pleasantly surprised. No more heavy full size basses for me.

Amazing bass for a great price

Overall:
I first went into a guitar center (I'm usually a music go round guy, just checking it out really) looking for a couple of instrument cables and saw this beautiful bass on the wall. After realizing it was a Gretsch and noticing the price, I practically ripped it off of the wall and started playing it. The bass sounded so good that I ended up running back home, grabbing my 1995 special edition Mexican fender p-bass and trading it on the spot that day. This is a fantastic sounding bass that sounds like a much more expensive bass, perfect for those who play guitar normally, and you won't regret the purchase.

This bass looks and feels great unplugged. As soon as you power the pickup you realize it give a hollow unbalanced sound. There are literally dead spots on the fret board where the bass does not pickup the notes and play them at appropriate volume. My Rogue 200 lx plays better for half the price. DO NOT BUY unless you plan on replacing the pickup. Its a shame because the guitar feels amazing.
