I first went into a guitar center (I'm usually a music go round guy, just checking it out really) looking for a couple of instrument cables and saw this beautiful bass on the wall. After realizing it was a Gretsch and noticing the price, I practically ripped it off of the wall and started playing it. The bass sounded so good that I ended up running back home, grabbing my 1995 special edition Mexican fender p-bass and trading it on the spot that day. This is a fantastic sounding bass that sounds like a much more expensive bass, perfect for those who play guitar normally, and you won't regret the purchase.

This bass looks and feels great unplugged. As soon as you power the pickup you realize it give a hollow unbalanced sound. There are literally dead spots on the fret board where the bass does not pickup the notes and play them at appropriate volume. My Rogue 200 lx plays better for half the price. DO NOT BUY unless you plan on replacing the pickup. Its a shame because the guitar feels amazing.

G2202 Gretsch Bass Guitar

By MICHAEL HAYWOOD

from Georgia

Just rec'd this from MF this morning - I ordered it for my niece - I took it out of the box and coudn't beleive how nice this guitar is - I immediatley plugged it up and tested it out - This is a GREAT guitar -
I own Fender American Deluxe Strat, American Deluxe Tele , Gibson Les Paul Custom , 335, SG, Gretsch Electomatic , PRS Custom 24 10 Top ,Taylor, Martin and Blueridge Acoustic -
Sorry for all of that, but I said all that to say this - This is an awesome bass guitar for several reasons - it is light and shaped like a guitar, the neck is, fast similar to a Les Paul - The pickup seems to allow for any tone you wish to get through your amp or stompbox - This guitar plays very well and sounds great -
Beautiful Guitar, Excellent BUY ! Musicians Freinds is the best - Shipping is always FAST -
Well built, fast neck - Sounds great - looks great, beautiful guitar
really good guitar - Unbeleivable now a days to really get a good deal - This is a good deal -
I would urge anyone wanting to play bass guitar, please try this guitar -
You just can't beat the price for the quality of this guitar -
I give this guitar 5 stars - I coudn't be happier - I can't wait to see the look on my niece's face on Christmas this coming weekend -

If you're looking for a bass on this price range, buy this one. Don't let the one pickup fool you. It has an incredible sound and can be quite versatile. Just buy it already!

It's a steal

By Anthony Brown

This is a very impressive instrument for such a modest price. Well set up straight out of the box, easy action with no buzzes. The fretwork is extremely well finished, no sharp edges at all. One reasonably powerful pickup and all the circuitry seems fine. I replaced the strings with D'Addario ECB81S Chromes which are light gauge flatwounds and to my ears are a perfect match for the instrument. Bear in mind that I'm a guitar player, not a bassist, but this instrument will fit my recording needs very well.

Nice Short Scale Bass

By Steve Murphy

from Dallas TX

Great bass for the price once set-up. I have let other more experienced bass players have a go and they were pleasantly surprised. No more heavy full size basses for me.
Nice quality, decent overall finish. One mini-humbucker has surprisingly nice tone. Easy to play, light weight. Feels like a guitar.
Overall fit and finish quite good. I immediately swaped out the stock strings for Roundsound short scale jazz monel flat wound strings....no comparison. The truss rod and intonation was way off but the action was pre-set fairly well. Once set-up it plays great, so much easier to play than my 35" scale HEAVY LTD.
Got it for a great price from Musicians Friend. Check it out.

Great bass

By impressed-uIM.p

See all my reviews

This is a great bass. I saw it in a local music shop and picked it up, not expecting much. It has REALLY good slap punch, one of the best ive heard. I didn't expect a tiny gretsch bass to sound like that. I compered it to a 4 string warwick rockbass and i have to say I preferred this bass to the warwick. (the warwick had a really thick neck and sounded muddy almost)I just wish they made a bigger one.

    Short Scale Heaven

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I'm a short scale enthusiast who owns a Danelectro Longhorn, and a Jay Turser Hofner copyin addition to several long scale basses from Rickenbacker and Fender. Our drummer, who is also a guitarist, recently bought one of these just to have a bass to fool around with and use for his songwriting demos. He brought it to practice one night and I played a set on it and was blown away. If you are a fan of the Gibson EB-0, you should love this bass. The stock strings weren't the best. I'd recommend a set of D'Addario Chromes and this thing will really sing.

perfect for my needs with home studio tracking

    By TPS Report

    See all my reviews

I wanted a bass guitar to use for basic tracking on my home studio setup. I selected the Gretch junior bass because I liked the simple configuration and the smaller scale I hoped would work well when sitting at a chair in front of the computer. The quality was better than I expected. Good range of sound styles by adjusting where your fingers are playing. The small scale makes it easy to work with when sitting at the computer desk. The shorter scale also easier to play for someone like me who is not a regular bass player. Shipped fast.

    Good Value!

For what this bass costs, it is a great deal. Leave the Danos alone, for the price, this is a much nicer bass. Solid body, with a remarkable finish. Although I'd like to see a second pickup at the bridge, with the pickup placed where it is, a nice variety of sounds can be achieved. Nice job, Gretsch!

    Nice starter bass!

This was the first bass that I owned and the only one that I still own. I started out learning the bass before switching to the guitar. My dad bought this for me five or six years ago, and I still own it today. I also still like to play around with it. I love the smooth warm tone that I expect out of bass guitars. I have heard Fenders and other basses that are ten times the cost of this bass that don't sound anywhere near as good as this bass. Like I said, this is a good, inexpensive bass that will make any bass player, young or old, extremely happy.

    Bad for the money

    By Bobo-INHbM

This bass has a really bad sound to it. There are lots of other budget basses that are way better than this. If you are a beginner looking for a cheap bass, dont buy this bass. It costs more than its worth

    Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet bass

    By VoN-.W3ph

    from Cleveland, OH

    See all my reviews

My sister purchased this guitar about 7 years ago thinking she would learn to play bass. It fit her hands better than a full size bass. Well... she never got around to learning the bass and when I was starting a recording project studio and was in need of a cheap bass, I purchased this model from her. I have not used the bass with an amplifier; I have just used it with bass cabinet emulations from effect processor units (with the bass I record direct). The bass sounds nice and punchy; the TV Jones designed Gretsch mini-humbucker has a nice tone. It is very easy to play, especially if you are used to playing guitar. One problem I have encountered is that the bridge doesn't take heavier gauge strings; you have to get some super light strings with this bass. All and all I would say if you are looking for a bass for someone young, someone petite, or just want a short scale bass that is easy to play, you will be pleased with this model!

    Best Bang for Bucks Bass

    By Whitieshoes Blue

    from Atlanta

Features--simple controls (volume and tone), adjustable bridge, great action, good tuners, and fast neck. Quality--I decided to write this review because of the quality. Last gig I threw this bass off the stage and the gig before that I slammed it on the stage. This bass has proved indestructible. AWESOME.Value--I tried all the expensive basses and I could not justify spending 4x what this bass cost. Overall--This bass is a pleasure to play. I love the Les Paul style, fast neck, and vintage happy sound you get from this thing. My first one was lost and I replaced it. It's that good.

    Gretsch G2202 Electromatic Jr.

    By electromaticlove

    from Oklahoma

Bought this bass as my own 1st bass 4 months ago. Had been playing a borrowed one before that. I spent about 7 hours trying every bass I could find. This was at the BOTTOM of my price range. I did not like the color. I wasn't crazy about the "Les Paul" body style. I didn't want to try it out. When I finally did I bought it. With that 1 pickup and 2 knobs you can get a WIDE range of sounds out of this bass. For the money you can't get better than this. It's heavy, only comes in a black burst, but has a high quality finish. Hardware seems pretty good. Pickup is SWEET!!! Try one and you will keep it!

    good stuff

    By inhuMANATEE

This is a good bass for anyone but especially for beginners. This was my first bass ever and I loved it. It has great tone, easy action and feels like a guitar, which is good for anyone who crosses over between guitar and bass. I'm a bassist for a Thrash Metal band and this is the bass I use.

    my first bass!

    By Dené

I saw this beauty from across the room and knew I had to have her. This was before I realized it was a short scale which was all the better to boot. Being a woman and a beginner this bass is too good to be true. The look, the sound, the feel... This baby is solid and at such a great price!

I love this bass. I bought it when I wanted to learn the bass. I still have it. It is a perfect, small scale starter bass due to its size and its weight. I have since switched to guitar but I still have it and it works great when I have friends come to play.
