The fretless version of an all-time classic.
Named for the year the most familiar version of the Hofner violin bass was popularized, the 500/1 Vintage '63 captures its characteristic tone--deep, warm and reminiscent of a full-size string bass. Built to be as durable as its legacy, the compact-sized, easy-to-play, light-in-weight Vintage '63 is equally at home on stage or in the studio.

In terms of sound and durability, a Hofner has always been one of the best, and this fretless version of the bass Paul McCartney made famous is no exception! The semi-acoustic body gives this bass a great sound, comparable to a stand up bass. It's deep, warm, and simply irresistible (though it's simply not meant for metal and other hardcore genres). Like most fretless bass guitars, this plays exceptionally smoothly, and the fret markers allow for easy playability even with beginners. The features leave something to be desired, with just two knobs and three switches which all do essentially the same thing, but the bass doesn't require much in the way of effects anyhow. The model I played had been owned and used for 10 years, and it had barely a scratch a on it -- treat this guitar right and it will repay you with a lifetime of great sound.
