I noticed what I thought was a very good price on the Ibanez AEB5E, ordered it and received it about two weeks ago. After more research I decided to upgrade to the AEB10E, with its all mahogany body except for the spruce sound board and rosewood frets. I also liked the idea of getting an upgrade in the electronics. This violin sunburst finish with understated accents is gorgeous. It you want a "head-turner," this finish will do the job. The upgrade was money very well spent. As owner of a 1956 Gibson J 45, I know what a great tone sounds like and how quality materials endure. Frankly, I am amazed at what Ibanez has accomplished with the AEB10E as well as the lessor AEV5E in terms of sound quality for the price they are asking. There is considerable difference in the acoustic resonance (sound projection) of the AEV10E and the AEV5E. With a spruce top on the AEV10E, one might expect that. However, one needs to also consider the difference in price if you're on an especially tight budget. As an ole rocker myself, who focused primarily on keyboard and rhythm guitar back-in-the-day, I am now undertaking to learn a bit of bass guitar since both my son and grandson are now respectable guitar players. If you are just now starting out on bass and want the acoustic sound, the AEB5E would be an excellent buy for you. If you are more experienced or just want an acoustic bass with high quality electronics, constructed of traditional superior guitar-making materials, for the money, it's hard to see how you could beat the price/quality ratio you receive with the AEB10E. Did I mention that the customer service at Musicians Friend is awesome? It is!

I bought this bass on impulse. It really rumbled through a Fender Rumble 100, so I bought it. Over the 2 or 3 years I've owned it, I've decided that I'll keep it, but I'd never EVER buy another acoustic bass. By physics, it's just NOT LOUD ENOUGH. Can't hold it's own in an acoustic jam. Also, the electronics have let me down more times than I can count. The feedback can be ridiculous, and for some reason the battery connection just fades in and out so that you can't rely on it whatsoever. The tuner stays stuck on sometimes. The electronics just aren't reliable like a good ol' Jazz Bass. So don't think this is gonna be a sweet jack-of-all-trades bass. Definitely not. But I STILL LOVE PLAYING IT by myself, unplugged. The action is sweet, and the woody slappy tone inspires me like nothing else does. Yes, you CAN slap on it. Quite well actually, especially if you install the taller bridge piece that comes with it to fix the buzz. So there you have it. Acoustic bass is a totally sweet instrument to play, but the instrument itself is the most monumentally useless thing in the world. What a long friggin' comment. Worth it though.

Comments about Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar with Onboard Tuner:

Let me start off by saying you cannot compare this to Any electric bass. Acoustic bass is an instrument all of its own, and if you get one thinking it will be just as good plugged in you are wrong. I didn't say you wouldn't be impressed but just wrong haha This thing is AMAZING!! My search began after playing upright bass in my school bluegrass band and I didn't want to fork out the money for (or have to carry) a huge upright bass. I started out on electric bass anyway and wanted an acoustic instrument to give me those tones but that I could still do my runs that I had practiced up on my electric fluidly. Well this thing bridged the gap perfectly. After trying several out in stores (Johnson, Washburn, Dean) none of them really seemed to "work" for lack of better words. They just didn't project sound well enough without buzzing for them to even be considerable at all.. However, I then tried the Breedlove Solo. Now That thing was Dream, but for over 800 it was just too expensive.. I went out on a limb and got the Ibanez AEB10. After being a long time user of Ibanez electric basses and acoustic guitars I knew their craftsmanship was worthy and would certainly be better than any Dean or Johnson. I thought I could get it and pay a guitar tech to strip the frets and smooth it out to make it a fretless to further portray the tones of an upright... But then it came to my front door. This thing Blew. Me. Away.. Right out of the box Perfect low action with ZERO fret buzz when played just behind the sound hole. I'm sure some may need adjustment when they arrive, and it comes with a higher bridge and truss rod adjuster in case you want/need to, but mine was perfect. I may just hold back on stripping the frets because it sounds that good! Seriously. If you're worried about not being heard when jamming use a pick and it will make up for it, and when you perform live you'll be eq'd anyway. Also it is also Much better than AEB5. The wood really does make a significant difference.

Comments about Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar with Onboard Tuner:

I recently received this guitar from Musiciansfriend. I wanted a bass I could play without having to hook up any electronics. Everything is working fine and I was rather pleased with it.

Today I decided to change the strings to Elixir Acoustic Bass Strings 14502 that I ordered along with the guitar

      ((( MAMA MIA!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! )))

Suddenly I feel as though I purchased a much more expensive acoustic bass guitar. I'm very satisfied!!!

Honestly, I never remember guitar strings making this much of a difference before. Guess those original strings put on by Ibanez weren't very good

Comments about Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar with Onboard Tuner:

I recently purchased this bass and to say it simply, i am astonished. The guitar (and case) arrived in pristine condition, all as one, very solid, and perfectly tuned. I began playing and i couldn't believe what i was hearing, the natural tone is quite unique and very clear. This bass guitar sounds and looks like any top-of-the-line instrument but obtained at a very decent price point.
The build is very well-done with solid/sturdy construction and the finish looks perfect as well (the inlays look sweet too).
In all honesty, i couldn't be happier with my purchase. Thanks Musicians Friend!

well this was sold as new, was used. It had a ton of issues. Neck, frets, finish, uneven sound across strings. Compared it with a friends fender and this thing has way less volume, punch, tone. Ordered a fender. Best of luck. This one was returned.

Bought as-is for repair, which turned out to be reseating one fret to remove fret buzz and ... well, that's it. Scratches noted in listing barely visible; one tuning machine improperly fitted -- looks screwy but works fine and not worth fixing. Solid top, great tobacco sunburst finish.

Received my new Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic Bass and was shocked by the guitar's terrible finish. It had multiple scratches from a circular buffer on the face and back of the instrument. These scrath marks were under the clearcoat, and easily visible from across the room. They obviously occured during production and not during shipping, etc. Doesn't Ibanez have QC standards? Can't understand how anyone would think it was okay to ship a product that messed up. I'm returning it for a replacement. I expect a perfect finish on the replacement. If not, I will cancel the order and get a refund. Totally unacceptable.

I'll start with my concerns first. Right out of the box I noticed that quite a few frets rattle and that the strings weren't the best. However, these are easy fixes. I'll just bring it to my local guitar store and have the strings replaced and the action adjusted. The tuners might need a little tightening as well. All that being said, I feel like it's a good buy for the money. Higher end acoustic basses cost a lot more money, but I see this as being a quality intermediate level guitar. Haven't had a chance to check the electronics yet. The tuner is a nice addition. It's got nice, deep lows and punchy highs, which is what I like out of bass guitars. It resonates nicely. Bottom line, if you're willing to give it a little tlc, it'll be a nice addition to your guitar collection.

Comments about Ibanez AEB10E Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar with Onboard Tuner:

A fantastic bass for any style of music, once you work through any quality issues. I would buy again, but would make sure to play EVERY note on the neck to check for fret buzz that can't be fixed or dead frets.
I love the onboard tuner. I've used this bass to play gigs, playing hard rock. It's so nice to be able to tune on-the-fly.
The quality varies from instrument to instrument. Play it before you put it away. The first one I got had a couple of dead frets. I exchanged it for a new one that plays and sounds great. It will have serious feedback, in my experience with it when it's played at higher volume, but that is easily solved with a plug for the sound hole. It's the best playing bass I own and, by far, the cheapest bass I own.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, if something were to ever happen to the one I own. I can't stress enough though, play it up and down, top to bottom, all the way up the neck and back, as soon as you get it.
