Comments about Ibanez Gio GSR205FM 5-String Bass Guitar:

All in all, this really is a decent bass, especially if you are looking at it as a first Bass, or first 5 string. This was my first 5. The only reason I would dock it a little, is I agree with another post, the tone is a little lacking, but for the price, and what you do get, I was happy with this bass being my first 5 string. Anyone just starting out, or new to playing on a 5 it will do just fine. (I now own a Schecter 5 Stilleto Elite) I also recently got a MarkBass amp, and I think with some new pickups, this will sound just fine through it. I personally am going to say that the neck is fast, which is why I'm going to keep it as my bolt-on 5 string, and modify it a little. It was decently set up, I had to raise the action a minimal amount, but as I said before, with a little TLC, it will be sweet. Also, the pickups are active.... Overall, a solid Bass, and a great value. Ibanez knows what they're doing.

        Very Good

Comments about Ibanez Gio GSR205FM 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for around a year now. The action on the bass was amazing right out of the box. The finish is really nice and flawless as well. After a proffesional intonation the bass plays really well. The downside is the tone on the bass is a little dull. It's no fender jazz bass, but still an excellent very well-priced bass. I highly recommend this bass to anyone starting out or looking for a 5 string. Ibanez dellivers.

        Neat

Comments about Ibanez Gio GSR205FM 5-String Bass Guitar:

When I played this at a local shop, the setup was absolutely amazing. It felt comfortable, the strings were surprisingly low with no buzzing and the neck was pitched perfectly. The low B had better response and less muddiness than my sr505. However, the tone had absolutely no character. I played this next to an American Standard Jazz bass, it was set up equally well but it was obvious the tone was dry and had no sparkle at all. I think it's the pickups because I also have a gsr200 that used to sound that way. Then I put in basslines Quarter-pound P & J pickups and it started wailing. For this guy I'd probly put in Bartolini Passive Jazz pickups. I think that combo would be unstoppable for this price range.

Know what you own, I do!!

I see a guy posted about a loose knob, Its simple, Remove the knob, Take a flathead screwdriver ( Or other flat lever ) and lightly push it in between the gap of the knob post, It will expand it out to fit your knob very nicely, Be careful not to apply to much force as this is a very easy and quick process for any instrument with knobs, Works every time!! DONT add random pieces of paper or balloons, It only makes your instrument seem rigged to you and you need to enjoy this great bass!! Notice I have nothing bad to say about the bass, lol Keep up the great work IBANEZ and this site!

        Stellar Beginner Bass

Comments about Ibanez Gio GSR205FM 5-String Bass Guitar:

Bought this little bass cause I play Contemporary Christian music on my worship team which is easier with the B string. This guy does a noble job for me, though the body is seems pretty small. The pickups hum pretty bad if you stand near your amp. It plays very nicely and the neck is superb and narrow so you may forget it's a 5-string at times. The thing that makes this bass stand out is the bass-boost circuit that let's you overdrive the bottom end by just cranking the knobb to the level you want. The more you crank the darker and warmer it sounds and LOUDER at the same time. It does wonders for my little Crate 15 watt practice amp. Actually makes it sound like a MUCH bigger amp with a full bass sound! Pretty cool!It also improves my Crate BX1000's performance which isn't very loud for 100 watts.Still it looks like a student bass, but with a few stickers on it I won't mind gigging with it.

        A boy and his bass

        By Kale-YWSsB

Comments about Ibanez Gio GSR205FM 5-String Bass Guitar:

My first electric bass guitar was the Ibanez GSR 205. True enough, my model was a little dated and I bought it from a pawn shop.. two years ago. I just now am looking into buying a new bass and only because I've got the money to treat myself to something nice. If there's one thing I can assure from this specific model, it's indurance. For the wear and tear I got it in to the wear and tare I brought it to, it still plays strong and clear. The pick-ups never gave me trouble and the overall quality of the instrument is amazing. The features are average, seeing as there's nothing truely spectacular about it. The quality recieved a 4.5 rating because over the years, my knobs tend to fall off.. I found that getting a small piece of paper or a small pieve of water-baloon put over the knotch and the knob pushed down onto it keeps them on there for a good month or two.. and then you need to interchange the material you used (i.e. paper, balloon, etc.) As for value, I deffinately got my money's worth and then some. I've played almost any and every genre with this sucker, and it always comes out great. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking to start thier bassist career.
