Rating based on price. I must mention the neck is very nice for this price, finish is very plesent to look at, knobs are plastic and fall off, (that is fixable) The overall workmanship is what one would expect for a bass in this price range. What makes the bass unusable for live preformance is the pickups and electronics. This bass sounds terrible, I played it thru 3 different amps and it sounds bad in all of them. Muddy lows, highs are not up to par and midrange is thin. I may change pups to see if there is any improvement. However, since it is not my only bass, I may just leave it alone and use if for practice and rehearsal to save wear and tear on my "good" basses.

Having said all that, it is a good beginners bass because it plays very nice, is not complicated, and is light in weight. I would only recommend this bass for that purpose. As a former teacher, I know some parents can't afford a more expensive bass for a beginner, so get this and ya got a nice bass that won't discourage a student right off the bat. ( I have seen this so many times, get a low priced bass with the strings 2" off the fretboard and wonder why Johny gets discouraged and doesn't want to practice)
2 pups, P/J config. volume knobs for both pups, a treble knob and a bass boost knob. Neither the treble knob nor the bass boost knob do a whole lot. The bass boost just seems to make the sound muddier and a bit louder, the trebble never gets to the real bite you need for slap. Both pups sound almost the same. The J/pup has a little less lows, but still has no punch nor does the P/pup, no guts...
Not bad workmanship for the price. However, the body developed a crack right at the neck. Don't know how this happened, I never dropped it or used it for self defense, but there it is. Nice finish, nice neck.
A good value. But I have seen better. SX for instance..

My friend owns this bass, and it's absolutely terrible. He knows absolutely nothing about basses and guitars aside from a vague idea of how to play them, and he was convinced that this was the world's greatest bass or something. Well, it's far from it... the machine heads completely came off, the pickups crap out on him randomly, there's a lot of noise when you aren't touching the strings, and the input jack is constantly falling into the bass. He might have just gotten a bad one, but if they're all the same as his, I'd consider saving up some more money to get a Fender, or even a Squier.

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

I used this bass as a fill in for a bass player on a worship team in Toms River. Primarily I am a guitarist. This neck was and is still such an easy transition from guitar (Strats) that I bought another here in Florida because of the sound, product price and quality of the instrument.
The boost on the active EQ is great, the percussiveness with a blend of the 2 pickup configurations is superior- it gave me anything I could look for. It is a great bass, not just a begginer's axe. Bravo, banez, keep it coming. Very affordable craftsmanship.

      Ibanez GSR200 review

      By THOMAS SHAW

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

Freet bars stick beyond the edge of neck on both sides and to use this instrument correctly or to make it really useable the frets bars need to be filed down on bothe sides, either you can do it or return it like I did since it was new.

Needs new set of strings ASAP if you are going to keep it as the ones on it are horrible.

Cheaply made and buzzes really bad would spend a little bit more money and get something a little better. would not recommend unless for beginnner maybe if you like a bass that buzzes everywhere on the fretboard

      Great bass!

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

A great bass for the price. I love the color choices as well.
This is my second electric bass. My first one I owned was a Washburn. I had trouble with the Washburn buzzing and had to constantly adjust the neck. This plays like a dream and holds in tune really well. I love the bass booster knob and have to replace the 9v battery for it about once every 6 months. I play it regularly and nothing has ever broken for me. The finish is beautiful and the sound is amazing. This is definitely a great bass for the price. I highly recommend it to anyone who's either starting out or has been playing for a few years. This is a great instrument.
The pick ups work great, i've never had any trouble with them. The upper nut is balanced out perfectly so I don't have to adjust it to eliminate buzzing. The neck is really super solid and high quality. I've played mine for 4 years now and the finish still looks amazing. It is lightweight as well which is great for me since i'm a woman. : )
You can't buy a better bass for this price.

      Slammin Bass!!!

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

I got this bass about 6 months ago at a local shop. I was playing an Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird IV before this, but it was really heavy and would hurt my shoulders and back. So I went in search of something lighter and found this GSR200 in transparent red. The picture does it no justice. I was amazed at how light it was, and how much power this thing had for the price. It sounds great without the active EQ, but when you turn it up, it blows more expensive basses out of the water. Overall, I would say buy this bass. Whether you're just starting out, or you've been playing for years, you won't be disappointed.

This thing sounds much better than a begginer bass fur sure!!!!

      By silas taylor

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

This an awesome bass if your a begginer or a professional this is an awesome sounding bass. The active pickups strait up RIP... big time tones for Rock, Metal, Jazz, and Blues, and it is very well made, mine is 5 years old and is the best bass I have owned and played. And Ive owned some big brand bases, such as FENDER, LTD, and CORT, and it sounds better then all of them. So if you are wanting a very versitile bass buy this one...it is deffinently worth it!!!

      Quality can be improved

      By Musikero08

      from San Jose, CA

Comments about Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass:

Very nice bass guitar for the price. However, the one I got has crooked knobs. It seems like the pots were hastily installed. One of the knobs is actually too low that the bottom of it touches the guitar body, and I can feel it scratching the finish every time I turn the knob. I may be able to fix it, but the knobs are so hard to pull, and I'm worried about damaging it if I force it. I'll probably leave it as is for now. It seems like Ibanez is not giving their entry level basses sufficient quality control.

Bought it just to play along with music in the house. Got the "Jewel Blue" and its a beautiful looking bass. I get some buzz, but I am new to the bass and still working on getting all the adjustments just right. I'm happy with my purchase.
