Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1200E Electric Bass Guitar:

You shouldn't have balked, now you gotta wait months. I'm an Ibanez fan, I already have an sr540zwbbt and theres pretty much nothing I would change on that, it;s also a 10/10. This thing is gorgeous, plays like a dream and boasts top notch hardware all around. The Nordstrand pups have their own voice, a little different from the big 3(Duncan-my personal faves--, Bartolinis, and emgs), but real nice and very capable. The mid-range cut toggle is a nice touch. The other toggle, active/cut to passive- I don't think I'll use it much in passive. This is a boutique quality bass for a fraction of what you'd expect to pay, plus I got it with 15% off a few weeks ago which helped me pull the trigger. I still love my Geddy bass and my Rick Cheyenne, but honestly this is a faster neck, more comfortable, etc,. I actually feel sometimes that the Ibanez basses let me play a bit beyond my skill level. This bass is a monster, you will not be sorry.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1200E Electric Bass Guitar:

I am not here to pass judgment, but to relay my experiences. Also I had to rate it poor because that field required it to be filled, although the bass looked NICE but damaged. Here is my story. Purchased an Ibanez SR1200e bass, Marshall amplifier, stand and strap from Musician's Friend. Had to pay for shipping although it stated free shipping after a certain amount. No problem, I am used to that since I live in Hawaii. Paid for priority shipping, however the bass was sent 4th class. Took about a month to receive the bass. Upon my complaint of paying for priority and shipping it 4th class they refunded my shipping charges. They also credited me a little more later, since after three weeks from ordering it had not yet arrived. I finally received it yesterday, expecting to make some noise that evening. I opened the box up and found a used bass guitar, although I paid for a brand new one. No manufacturer's tags, no manufacturer's warranty cards, no manufacturer's information about the instrument, a ripped gig bag and the body of the bass was dinged, scratched and a section of the body was replaced with new pieces of wood. I just wrapped it up and put it back in the box. As soon as I complete this review, I am heading down to UPS to have it shipped back on their dime I hope. I will update this later. I hope they will refund my money in a timely manner so I can purchase something else. Again, this is only my experience. If you are wondering about the other equipment, it came in about 5 days from placing the order and visually everthing looks good, although not tested.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1200E Electric Bass Guitar:

I'm extremely satisfied by this bass. This is my first serious bass guitar that and will likely be the only one for quite some time. Previously I've owned an Ibanez SR300, which had excellent playability but I found to be seriously lacking in tone (lifeless basswood body, mediocre electronics). I knew the SR series was the way to go for my tastes and the SR1200e truly works perfectly for me.

First off, the wood quality and choices in design are really tasteful and practical. The mostly Wenge neck results in a durable and super fast playing experience. Wenge has a sort of coarse grain to it and it is unfinished so you never sort of stick to the neck as you might with a gloss-finished neck. With some smooth flatwounds I have no trouble sliding around and playing lines on a single string - which can be crucial for a uniform recording sound. The bubinga in the neck adds some beauty as well, but I wish the neck was all Wenge. Based on my experience with this bass, I've ordered a custom unfinished Wenge neck for my Stratocaster, this sort of neck is truly the best in terms of being fast to play on.

The unfinished Mahogany body also results in a full bodied warmer sort of tone. Coupled with the high quality rosewood of the fingerboard, you truly get a full and musical sound. No surface on this bass has an artificial finish resulting in an organic, tasteful, and raw playing experience.

The electronics are also great. The Nordstrom single coils have rather strong output for singles. The Active EQ can also be used to increase or decrease the output. Tonally your options are wide and excellent. My favorite aspect is the ability to switch from active to passive use at the flick of a switch. You can go from a warmer than classic jazz bass to a massive EDM sound with a single flick this way.

The EQ naturally opens up all options in between as well. The passive sound is different from the Fender type due to the overall warmer tone the woods give you. Way more full-bodied but less punchy. Still I find no need to get a Fender Jazz anytime soon if I'm after that sound. My only complaint is the slight noise since these are single coils, but I think I may use some copper shielding to tone that down. Noise only occurs in the higher frequencies, so turning down the Highs will make it quiet too.

The bridge is just a fantastic idea. Or really I should say the four bridges since it really has one per string. Adjusting action and intonation is easy albeit unique, and Ibanez included a full on swiss army tool to take care of this among other adjustments. Fretwork is good too, although I did encounter some uncool buzz on one fret when strung up with a set of super light flatwounds. Recently switched to medium flats and the buzz is gone with the extra tension.

All in all this is a wonderful bass with all the fixins'. Typically I buy instruments and dismantle/upgrade the hell outta them, but I'm leaving this one alone, at least for a while. In fact getting this made me want to replace my glossy maple strat neck with a Wenge one, so I guess it's still making me get upgrades of sorts. It's not 100% perfect, perhaps due to it not being made in Japan or USA (made in Indonesia), but I'm just overjoyed with it nonetheless. Just a versatile tone machine that plays like a dream and ought to saty together for years to come.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1200E Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is just a dream to play. Others have clearly stated how fast the neck is, which is certainly true. But I am also very impressed with the great sound I can get out of it. The Nordstrand pickups are just excellent. From trebley growl to deep bass, it's all right there. All on a bass that weighs exactly 7.5 pounds. Astounding.

I've been shopping for a bass for well over a year, and as a 30-year player, I knew what I wanted. While I've loved my Fender Geddy Lee Jazz, the 10 pound weight was just getting a little old for extended practices and live gigs for someone with back issues. Problem solved. I can get all that great Fender Jazz sound in a bass that is 2.5 pounds lighter. And the neck, my word, it's faster than my Geddy. The overall balance of the bass is great, too. If you're shopping for a lightweight bass that has all the sounds you love, this is it.

One very small downside, unlike many of the other SR basses, this one does not have a separate, convenient, battery compartment. Not a big deal, but would have been nice.

Fit and finish out of the box were excellent. The bass is gorgeous -- and mine was lightly used per Musician's Friend's rating. Action was perfect, I haven't had to change a thing -- nice low action, and no fret buzz.

      I've now had the bass for 2 weeks -- it's a keeper.
