OVERVIEW

Double-cutaway access with classic SR appointments.

Part of the SR Premium line and manufactured in the Ibanez Premium factory, the SR Premium 1400E 4-string electric bass is designed with high-end features while maintaining affordability, making it the new standard for the serious, professional musician.

The SR Premium 1400E boasts a smoothly contoured figured maple top on a large mahogany body for gorgeous looks and powerful, aggressive tone. Its five-piece SR4 wenge/bubinga neck is also bolstered with KTS titanium reinforcement rods inside, and finished with a rosewood fretboard. The Mono-Rail IV bridge is the ultimate in string isolation for bass. Each saddle is independently and securely locked down to the body for maximum vibration transfer and no interference. One screw controls the height of each saddle for easy adjustment.

Nordstrand Big Single pickups provide the clear sound characteristic of single coil pickups with an aggressive edge. The EQB-IIISC 3-band EQ with mid-frequency and EQ-bypass switches gives you a world of tonal possibilities, making the SR Premium 1400E as versatile as it is good-looking.

Includes gig bag.

A quality bass, but one that requires a little patience.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1400E Electric Bass Guitar:

A solid value, but try to play it first before you double down as the sound might surprise you a little.
I suspect most people who purchase this bass will be more than satisfied with their decision.
This bass sports an identical weight and feel to other Soundgear basses, but comes with quite a few extra features you wouldn't get with a lesser model. This includes the abalone inlays, gold hardware, a five piece neck and Nordstrand pickups. This bass itself sports a beautiful look to it that captures you attention right away. The light weight doesn't hurt and certainly doesn't take away from the sound at all.
The positive: great sustain, intonation, and easy access all the way up the fretboard. As you would expect with an Ibanez preamp, the bass, treble, and midrange are very sensitive to the chosen setting and have tremendous output. A little turn of any knob goes a long way in shaping your tone. The bass arrived well set up and strung with Elixir strings, along with a gig bag and a roadie wrench (nice touch!).
The negative: this bass does require a bit of patience to dial in the tone your looking for. There is a passive bypass swith but the tone doesn't compare to that of the active setting.Even a little too much midrange or treble and I find that the tone loses its usefulness when I'm trying to dial in the tone to any given song that I'm playing.

I noticed the Nordstrand pickups seem great at picking up harmonics, if that matters to you at all. It certainly was a plus for me. Running the front pickup gave me the sound of a solid P-Bass, while both pickups on full with everything centered gave a tremendous sound that seemed to to emphasize the mids more than other Ibanez basses, due to the Nordstrand pickups. The mid freqeuncy swith is a nice addition that also makes a subtle adjustment to your sound either way. If you love to slap like I do then don't worry, this bass will give you no trouble at all in that regard.
While it is a beautiful bass sporting a number of features, it does produce a series of tones that I think are a little more limited in the usefulness than one might think. I bought this instrument after sampling other soundgear basses, but not this one in particular, as no music store had it in stock around me to test.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1400E Electric Bass Guitar:

i played the 600-800's in the music store , so i knew with a little more attention to detail and better electronics , pickups , that the 1400 would not disappoint. mono bridge, tiger flame maple top, grovers ,big bad pickups, 5 piece neck. i have always had thick basses , but the thinner 1400 actually sits better on lap when recording. this is a very aggressive bass , you might need flats/or semi flats if that tone is not what you are looking for. ( down in a hole, angel chair - sound ). you can mix the pickups , the 3 band eq , and mid shift switch to alter tone easily. fret ends are completely smooth. some basses E string after the 5 fret on are not very inspiring , not here. it even sound tighter and more aggressive up the board.attention to detail is out there , like a guitar costing double the jack $$. kept the coated strings on ( 2 months now ) till they die , then try some rotosounds. lot of fun , lot of new inspiration. good job.p.s. , get the case , it is very nice and very well made.

Comments about Ibanez SR Premium 1400E Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a really nice bass. Plays well right out of the box. I put D`Addario EN72 Half-Round Strings on and it is a dream. Beautiful to look at as well. Ibanez headstocks are one of the few original (not a Fender or Gibson style imitation) out there that looks cool. You won`t go wrong here.
