I am 37 years old and have been playing since I was 13. I have owned and played a variety of basses from the P Bass, to a Ric and this can hold its own just fine. Do not expect a top end axe for the price but I was surpised to how slim and fast the neck was, not to leave out the ranges of tones you can pull. Out of the box, it was playable although I played around setting the bridge to my liking. It took me about 5 minutes with my amp to get the sound where I liked it and I was off and running. I love the active EQ on the SR-300. I wish my Ibanez SR-205 had the same thing. It is trully a versitile bass as mentioned by other reviews here. I am looking forward to playing this for many years to come.

It works. It really does !!!
For those of you that have a problem with the saddle screws working their way out try using a clear fingernail polish to lock them in place.
First thing is to set the saddles to the height you want and then proceed.
Use a toothpick to drizzle the nail polish on top of the screw and you'll be good to go in a few minutes.
Just a drop is all you need since it is thin enough to work it's way into the threads and when it comes time to adjust the saddles the screws will break loose easily.
I've been using this little trick since the 70's and it really works. The only precaution I suggest is to put some rags around the body to avoid getting a drop of polish on the finish.
It's fingernail polish !!! What Quality ???

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

I got this bass for christmas a year ago, and I've completely fallen in love with it. It's a ton of fun to play, and it sounds pretty good (not recording good, but good nonetheless), so long as you keep in the bass end.

It's kind of disappointing that the treble sound on this guitar is very lacking. Even with aggressive EQing, it's hard to get a snappy and sharp tone without it sounding out of place.

The treble (bridge) pickup is incredibly weak, I found. The only purpose I ever found for it was for playing chords without blowing out the amp. Using the neck pickup is a ton of fun, though. It's very clear, very deep, and very rich.

It seems that for some reason, the E and G strings just aren't as present as the A and D strings. Those two come out perfectly clear, while the E string is muddy and quiet (unless you seriously overdo the bass boosting, or throw in a decent overdrive), and the G string is rather weak sounding. It would practically vanish among any other sounds. No matter what setup I try, I can't seem to really get around this issue.

Re-stringing is also an obnoxious issue. There's nothing to hold the strings into the saddle while you're winding them up aside from tension and forcing your hand down there to keep the string in (very frustrating work indeed). They'll constantly pop out if you're not keeping them in place.

With all that said, it's still a superb instrument for the price. It plays very smoothly, it sounds good enough for anyone to enjoy it, and it's probably one of the best starter or low-budget bass guitars you can get.

Fantastic!

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

A fantastic intrument I would undoubtedly buy it again.
This is the first bass I have owned but I grew up around my siblings who both played bass and I have played my sister's $8,000 instrument and I like the sound of mine better. It has a very clean sound but it still manages to be powerfull and deep. The body itself is lightweight which is nice cause I usually walk places. Another thing that's really great is that you can play this bass every day for a month without having to tune it.

great bass, great price

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

Coolest bass i've ever played. Its versitile and light. Its looks amazing with the pewter finis I got it in.
If your starting out or just want a great bass buy it now.
I love the range of tone you can get from this. you can go from a dark slap tone to a bright almost acoustic tone in seconds.
Aside from some minor fret buzz and a loose knob when I got it this is an amazingly sturdy and reliable bass
Awesome, this blows the Fender Jazz basses i've played out of the water its great.

Nice Bass

By Christina Gordon

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

Very nice bass, light, durable, with a good sound. I have the orange one and the picture does NOT do justice, it is so much brighter and noticable than this picture shows. I like where the plug-in is, you don't have your cord sticking out the bottom and bothering you. It does a pretty good job staying in tune, I only tune it every couple days, and it's usually hardly out at all. I'd say, great bang for your bucks!!

Mixed

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

Great tone and features; awful quality control. If you need something solid to play on but don't have the technical skills to correct this bass look elsewhere.
Active EQ, style sweeper, easy battery access. Can get almost any tone. Picked this over a mex-p-bass just on tone...
...which was a problem. The bridge on this has major issues. The screws don't fit (they're loose) and normal playing will cause the strings to lower pretty quickly. I replaced the saddles with graph-tech ones and had to grind the base plate down a little. Works nice now, but that was a lot of work and time invested. Also the pick-up blend knob doesn't work and will kick out the treble pickup. I'm going to replace this with a 3-way switch (as inbetween setting seem useless in a band setting. You either want one all the way on or both.) Lastly, as stated in other reviews, string ballance is difficult. The E and G don't hold up well, though the "A" booms like a cannon. Tweaking the amp settings can help but it's couterintuitive as you usually need to boost mids, not reduce them.
I wouldn't buy this particular bass again. Would go with a higher end version with different pickups/bridge. But, since I have it already and I've invested time I'll keep it around. Perhaps convert it to a crude fretless when I upgrade.

Ibanez SR300

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

The bass plays well, is easy on the back, but terrible in sound value. I was able to get either a wall of low end, or a thin high end with no bottom. Attempting to get a usable sound was a waste of time on the gig because as soon as you get a decent tone on the lower strings, the G string would dissapear. I had to put the bass down and pick up one of my trusted other basses. Very dissapointing!

Very poor bridge design as changing strings is a challenge due to the string wanting to fall out as your winding to pitch.

If the issues can't be remedied, this bass will stay home and never be used.
Fairly nice design as the bass is light weight and a very slim neck profile. The bridge needs serious consideration of a re- design.
Ok, Here's where the trouble begins... very poor across the strings volume. The D and A strings stand out, a little shy on the E string, and the G was so weak it couldn't defend itself!
I put very little value on something that cannot be used for its intended purpose. I suppose it could be used to practice with at home, in a quiet room, with no other instruments playing....

great bass

Comments about Ibanez SR300 Bass Guitar:

highly recommended for all skill levels. One would have to pay 4x's the amount to close to this bass.
amazing amount of tonal variations. Great active electronics.
very comfortable. Light weight. Plays great.
I played quite a few basses from a variety of prices and this series of Ibanez basses easily smoked all of the competition.
