Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I played the Ibanez SR305 a couple times at guitar center before buying it the look (Iron pewter) and the finger/slap knobs and the neck mad eme fall for it. i was worried about all the bad reviews but I was so excited to get my first 5 string bass even though when I first started playing i thought it was stupid, until I started getting into playing harder stuff (Trivium, Korn, Cradle of Filth, Etc.) and found out i need a 5 string to play most of my favorite bands. Then my guitarist got a 7 string ibanez and i knew by then i needed it to write our music. anyways i got it for Christmas 2 years ago and when it looked more beautiful then it did when i was at guitar center. The neck is the best! you couldn't ask for a thinner, more smoothing, comfortable neck!! I can play faster and better on this bass then my Epiphone Korean Flying V. I love It! This bass rocks my world. after messing with it i decided to stay on the slap sound because i like to play and write with a more warm and smooth sound, Doing so My highs where cut down a lot. I couldn't even hear them over the drums and guitar. and if i turned the treble boost too high it gave it the fieldy sound *Which i love because i play a lot of korn and he is a big influence to me* But when i wanted to play other bands or write my own suff i didnt want the sound. So i bought the GEB-7 equalizer pedal to equal it all out and after doing that it sounds like a prestige!! It has traveled since I opened it from the bock and I've even fell on stage with it (I like jumping around and goofing off so i fell* and it did nothing to it! i was so relived! It of course has belt scratches on the back but you can never get away from belt scratches lol. The case i have for it is to big so the neck moves it outta place every time *which i hate so i put shirts around it to keep it from doing that* but it never broke woohoo! and the 9 volt last forever! Anyways..... This is a awesome starter bass and a awesome main bass!!! You cant go wrong with it! Especially for the price!
Pickup knob, Treble-boost/cut knob, Bass-boost/cut knob, Finger or Slap feature Knob, Master Volume Knob.
Smooth, Strong, Beautiful.
cant beat the price!

Best Bass I have ever owned.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

Overall this is a great bass. I like it because it is lightweight and is a 5 string active bass. The quality is great. This is the best bass I have owned. This bass has great tone and the color I have is roadster orange which is awesome. The action is nice.
Features active pickups. treble and bass boost/cut knob, pickup balance knob, finger/pick knob, master volume knob, Five strings.
The quality seems very good straight from the factory.
The value for what is paid is really good. I've played more expensive basses and this one is the best.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

The SR300 series are exceptional basses for the price range. No other bass in its class performs as well or sounds as good. Aesthetically, these basses are pleasing to the eye...nice curves and overall design. The neck feels OK. CONS: The neck is slightly top-heavy. If your strap is nylon with low friction, you'll be holding the neck up with your left hand all night long. Your should will get sore. Get a strap which has some adhesion...like a rubber grippy thing. This will remedy the bass' unbalanced design. I bet the 6-string is worse. This isn't a problem for bass players who push down on the body by resting their right forearm on it, because it will keep the body stable and the neck from falling over. The EXF-5 neck and bridge pickups are nowhere near as good as Bartolini pickups like in the SR500's. You get what you pay for. The bridge saddle height adjustment screws will loosen and the saddle sinks slowly downward until the string begins fretting out completely. This happened in one band practice on the E string. It also happened on the G string during personal practice time. I used LocTite thread locker (sort of like a superglue compound) to make sure the screws didn't loosen by bass vibrations. It works, but I would rather have bridge saddles that have threads with the proper tolerance...and aren't loose. This is especially problematic with bass, since low frequency oscillations can loosen already loose screws far easier than a guitar's higher frequencies. I'd hate to have this happen during a show...even though I carry hex wrenches with me. It's my own fault for buying a cheaper bass though. Had to adjust the neck's truss rod several times to get the action to an acceptable height. And, had to raise the bridge saddles up to stop fret buzzes. I had to compromise and left the action higher since some parts of the neck buzzed. You'll never get this bass to play like an extremely low-action pro bass. For those of you who like higher action, it will give you no problems. Also, I noticed several times when plucking on the high G string, the bridge saddle lifted up - it stood up on one screw and then snapped back down...the sound of this actually came through the amp. It's the result of cheap design. You can't expect much at this price.FINAL ANALYSIS: You get what you pay for. It's great for a budget, and something you don't care about getting beat up and trashed. I'd much rather drag my Ibanez SoundGear basses out for winter-time gigs, than my $3500 Modulus bass. I think my overall rating of 4.5 is fair.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

Overall this is an awesome bass for beginners or anyone that wants a 5-string without a lot of investment.
5-strings and a fast (relatively thin) neck. Finger-slap feature works reasonably well but takes a little amp adjustment too.
Looks and feels well made. Did not require any set up when it arrived.
This is a very nice bass guitar for the price. Would be interested to hear it next to the 405, which I think has upgraded pickups, but the standard Ibanez pickups are good.

It's a Bass Player Thang

By Patsy Jansen-Taoyama

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

Have to say I am very impressed with this bass. I bought the Ibanez SR 305. I've been looking for a 5-string for years and nothing stood out, they all felt a little awkward to play (I have small hands). This bass looks great, sounds great, and is a joy to play. It is light, and well proportioned and scaled. You get a incredible bass for the price. It's simple, yet handsome design helps keep the price down. With a little eye candy this bass could cost a lot more.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

i was needing a new bass that sounded good but had a low price tag and this one takes the cake. i went to railroad bazaar in huntsville alabama and tried out a few basses but this not only caught my eye but played and sounded the best. the thin neck makes it easy to do runs and scales and the style sweeper electronics are amazing, they make this bass so versitile(slap bass, to rock and roll, to deathcore, to jazz) this bass can do it all. mine is in a pearl white color with a maple fretboard witch isnt available on ms, but it looks amazing...love it...kudos to ibanez on an amazing instrument.

Good For Beginners.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I got the bass about 3 years ago, it was my transition into 5 strings, a definite bump up from my 4-string Squier P Bass.Everything works well on this bass. It's a good bass for people looking to branch out a little bit into extended range playing.Pros:Active Circuts, Very light and comfortable, Super thin neck for fast playing even with small hands,Cons:Stock pick-ups are kind of weak. Mine personally lost a lot of its tone over the first 2 years, probably due to heavy playing and absue. Plastic nut, dampens the tone a little bit, and is REALLY easily broken if not careful when changing string gauges.Overall, its good for beginner to intermediate players. If you looking to join a serious band I recommend the Ibanez ATK300. Best sound for any style of music, well worth the money.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I have been looking at 5 string basses for a while and yesterday i got the opportunity to pick this one up. I am a huge KoRn fan so I am looking for the feildy sound. the one i picked up was actually in A tuning already and i tried some slap techniques on it. it was amazing! it almost takes no skill to play thins bass well. fretting is effortless and the body is as thin as a multy thousand dollar Ibanez prestige model. only thing that might turn one off is that it is very neck heavy, other than that, awesome. I'm saving up to buy it. anyone know a good reasonably priced bass amp that i could get for under $100? thats my next step

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass after seeing the reviews for it. I ordered in moon shadow which is absolutely beautiful right out of the box! It's very lightweight (weighs less than both my beginner's fender and my fender jazz). The strings are close together and the fretboard is fast making the transition from 4 to 5 string effortless. I like the slap, finger knob, it makes for a lot of fun and makes slapping loud and clear (you hardly even have to slap the string). The treble/bass boost (it's hard to see on the pictures, but it's two knobs in one) is really nice and helps to customize the tone I get out of my amp. The active pick-ups are punchy and ring clearly with no adjustment out of the box.Now for the bad stuff. As with almost any bass you buy, there is going to be some adjustments needed. So far I've had to adjust the action and the truss rod to get rid of a few dead frets on the g string. It wasn't really necessary but I went through and tightened up everything that had a screw (tuners, etc). As Groovin stated, get rid of that plastic nut! There's still a few more adjustments to be made but all in all it's nothing more than I what I expected. Also, as usual, it's probably best to buy new strings as well. The factory ones have a real metallic sound and don't sound very good. This is the first bass I've ever bought that wasn't a hand-me-down and I am not in a slightest bit disappointed. The color is beautiful, the features are the best you're going to find at this price range, it sounds fantastic (after some adjustments, of course) and it's light and fast. As long as you're patient enough to deal with personalizing it to your playing style then you'll be just as happy as I am!

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

If your looking for a bass guitar and are doing research, check out the Ibanez SR305 series bass guitars. I've been playing drums and bass for over 25 years now and finally decided to buy a 5 string bass. Out of the box, this bass has the best action I've felt since my 4 string Spector that was professionally set up!!! The quality of the neck, body, and electronics are top notch. The balance and feel of the design is also very comfortable. Overall, the sound you can create with the electronics (depending on your amp of course) is very impressive. You won't be disappointed with this bass!!!

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've been playing it for a little under a year, and its one of the nicest basses I've ever played. I've played everything from Fender Squires to Conklin 7 strings, and it out-preforms the Squire, and compares to the Conklin. Its a great sounding bass, especially for its price. Its also one of the most comfortable basses I've ever played. Its great for anybody who needs a deep growling bass, or even Mark King's ultra high treble sound.I use Dean Markley Blue Steel strings, an 87 Peavey head, and a crate 2x12 speaker cabinet and it sounds great.

Ibanez never let me down

By Ibanez Luvr

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've only been playing about 3 years, but I've been in the Music bizz for 30 years. Yes, you could buy a "better bass" but that would cost you much more money. For the money, this is one AWESOME 5 String. The Bartolini MK1 pick ups sold the deal for me. Before I bought this Bass, I played Basses costing 4-5 times what this one did. I went to the store confident that i would buy another Fender, or Schecter, but instead bought yet another Ibanez.

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

I went into Guitar Center pretty skeptical about this bass. I'd read about it online, and i really like Ibanez, but never messed much with their basses. this bass is really light, many guitars are heavier, but it doesnt sacrifice the low end. they make up for it with the pickups, which are pretty decent, and the extra bass knob helps. i dont like my tone muddy, more punchy, so i like this alot with the d'addario strings(ibanez's factory strings). this bass is also pretty versatile, from metal to blues to funk & slap. i liked it a lot and i'll probably buy it too. very easy transition into 5 stringers. looks cool too!

Great first 5-string

By Bytorx1

from Undisclosed

Comments about Ibanez SR305 5-String Bass Guitar:

The SR305 is a great bass if you have a tight budget but you want a great sounding bass. I play just as a hobby and I have a fender jazz and a epiphone thunderbird and the playablility of the SR305 is equal to them. The bass and treble boost, and the slap/finger pot can really change your sounds that are really cool. The only downfall of this bass is that it is very light and has a very thin body. I'm skinny so when I sit to play it's hard to hold comfortably.
