OVERVIEW

A great bass at an even better price point with high caliber features and playability.

For 25 years the SR has given bass players a modern alternative. Embraced by bassists over the decades, the iconic series continues to excite with its smooth, fast neck, lightweight body and perfectly matched electronics.

The SR305B 5-string electric bass is priced like a beginner's instrument, but it has features that make it anything but a cut-rate starter axe. First off, it has a 5-piece SR5 maple/rosewood neck and light, Mahogany body with smooth rounded edges and a deep, lower cutaway for better access to the upper frets.

For electronics, the SR305B features two CAP EXF-N2 passive pickups. Designed by Ibanez, the top of the CAP EXF-N2 is arched to mirror the radius of the fretboard. This positions each string equally distant from the pickup resulting in a more linear, balanced output. Equalization chores are handled by Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band eq. This allows the control to be more effective in creating useful, popular bass tones.

Comments about Ibanez SR305B 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I'm a pro player in the area where I live. Being a pro player in a smaller metro area, I'm on a budget. :) I needed a 5-string, and so enters the SR305B. This bass does not disappoint. I've been playing a vintage J-bass for years, and compared to the heavy J, this bass feels light as a feather. I do not feel fatigued at the end of a 3-4 hour gig anymore, like I did with the old J-bass. The bass is comfortable to wear standing, but feels a little awkward to me when sitting because I'm so used to a bigger body. The string spacing is 16.5mm from string to string, so this is great for players with smaller hands or pick players. I have big hands and fingers, so the spacing is a little tight for some techniques (slap specifically), but I manage. I'm a fan of painted finishes, and I really like the navy metallic. The navy blue is darker than the photo would suggest, but I like it better than the blue in the photo. The small metallic flakes in the finish are nice, and reflect stage lights well. The EFX-CAP pickups are nice. I wasn't expecting them to sound as good as they do. The voicing is broad, punchy, and clear. I would prefer a bit fatter voicing, but it is easy to dial in some fatness with the EQ. The CAP pickups give a lot; they don't wimp out when playing aggressively. The 3-band EQ is OK. I get a very convincing P-bass kind of tone when rolling completely on the neck pickup, boosting mids slightly, and rolling off treble slightly. For a punchy bridge J-bass tone, I roll back to the bridge pickup and give a slight boost to bass and mids. If you have too much gain in your amp system's pre-gain, the pickups cause a distorted tone that sounds really bad. Watch your pre-gain on your amp for this. I've not used an active pre on a bass for so long, I'm getting used to the it again. I am currently working with Bartolini, and I plan to upgrade the pickups and electronics to Barts in the near future, when I can. Again, the stock pups and pre are OK, and they sound good. As far as setup, the setup was pretty good when I received the bass. I made a slight adjustment to the truss rod, tweaked string height to my playing, and made small adjustments for intonation. Overall, I feel you get a lot of bass for your money with the SR305B. As is, it is a great bass for pros on a budget, an inexpensive backup, a quality bass to have on hand if you need it, or whatever else. This would also be a great bass to mod, since it has good individual components as is. I would recommend this bass to any player, novice to pro, who is considering the purchase of an inexpensive 5-string bass. I play many genres, including but not limited to rock, country, R&B, soul, blues, gospel, funk, and CCM. This bass covers all of this stuff for me.

Comments about Ibanez SR305B 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Like the bass but the setup out of the box was the worst ever fretbuzz all over, some strings high in saddle some super low very very odd but overall once a setup is done it will be great!

Not a pro or con but mine is MUCH darker than the ones I saw online but no problem looks great!
