For the money, it deserves 10s all the way...except for one thing (but you don't have a criteria for this, so I didn't downgrade it anywhere)...the factory setup SUCKS, which is why the strings buzz like crazy...but all I had to do was set it up for my style of play and it was golden. It would be nice if it had a 35" scale (for the low B), but I had no trouble getting rid of the initial floppiness of the B string...I've been playing for 27 years. My first bass was a Peavey T-45, then a Rickenbacker...I wanted a low-to-mid-level 5-string so I could finally see what all the younger players were playing around with. I'm very happy with this instrument...very fast (while I'm a 6-foot guy, I have small hands, so I LOVE the neck) and the sound is very versatile...I play it through a GK stack and it sounds every bit as good as both of my 4-strings. The band I'm in plays everything from Cream to The Who, to AC/DC, ZZ Top, Rush, Stones, April Wine, BOC...extremely eclectic...but it does an admirable job on everything we play...I'm very happy...I wish it came in other colors...this would be a beatiful bass in red with gold hardware...sigh...can't have everything (Ibenez tends toward what I feel are blah and ugly colors for their instruments...oh's still a great bass).

I've owned the bass for 3 years now and its turning to crap... the input jack is all screwed up (even after replacing) every time you change the strings, you have to adjust the action. it's a good bass for beginners, but if you're gonna buy one, use it for practice. other than that, it plays nice, good for slap and muddy metal.

Pleasantly Suprised !

I own a few higher end Ibbies. An SRX 655, and an ATK 305. Knowing this is the Mid range entry level model I expected it to be crappy. Boy was I shocked! This bass is great! It's simple and solid. Great feel, sound, and quality. My Third 5 string Ibanez. I love it.Don't be fooled by the country of orgin {Indonesia} or the price. They did this one right.I changed the strings to GHS Boomers and lowered the action and adjusted the intonation. No neck adjustment needed! If you want a low priced good quality 5 string, grab an SR 300DX!

I have been using this bass for 2 years and it is by far the best bass I have ever played. The tone that this bass produces is excellent. I play in a metal setting and this bass has the punch needed and then some! I highly reccomend it! Buy it, you won't be disapointed!

Unbelievable value, simply great

I bought this bass to try out a 5-string. My other axe is a Music Man Sterling 4 string. The plan was to get used to five strings then upgrade to a Music Man 5 string with the double humbuckers once I was sure I liked having the low B on hand. Now I'm not sure I will bother! This Ibanez is awesome! The low B is very tight. Much better than some of the brands of "value" basses I tried out at my local music shop. The electronics are surprisingly responsive, too, and allow you to dial in a wide range of sounds. The three knobs are for volume, balance between the pickups, and a dual tiered knob where the lower collar is for low-end boost, and the upper collar is for the highs. Right out of the box this bass was set up to play. I just had to tune it. Even the strings that came on it are worthy of keeping. I will hold on to the Ernie Ball Slinky set that I bought under the assumption that the ones that came on the bass would be junk. I'm very surprised by this bass, and pleasantly so! Try one out and become a believer!

Awesome bass for rock. Plays any type great. Has Bass and Treble Boost/Cut for tweakin your sound for more control instead of running to your amp. Great thick lows, great with your mid scooped. Also good for drop slappin, even for that Korn style drop A, if you're into that. Overall great bass. Stays in tune for long periods of time. Thin neck for a 5-String for small hands like mine. Good pickups. The only I've found bad is the potentiometer for the bass and treble boost/cut crackles as you adjust it up or down.

Incredible value.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This thing is amazing for the price. I've owned this bass for a year and a half. I originally bought it specifically for teaching beginners... many kids have a five-string these days, and my custom bass has only four. I also wanted something that I could beat on a bit. This instrument shocked me with its design, durability, tuning stability, and tone. I can't tell you how highly I would recommend this bass for any beginner who wants a five-string.

Ibanez is rock. DO buy this one and you won't regret it. I had this bass for about 1 year and it has been great. Great sound especially slapping.

Great deal for the money, except:

This was the first 5 string I've ever owned. My other bass is an SR400. The pickups on the 305DX pretty much suck compared to the sr400. the rotary pickup switch doesn't do much (i.e)turned to full front or fullbridge pretty much sounds the same, dead center allows good balance between highs and lows but no balls. The dual tone control is a piece of crap, the lows only come through when turned all the way up, and the tone(high) has an evil shshsh if it's turned more than halfway up. The soap bar pickups just don't do it for me. Good tone can cost you a fortune, but if your a tone freak like I am I would suggest an upgrade in the pickups or a higher end guitar. the playability of this guitar is everything you'd expect from an Ibanez. But the electronics leave much to be desired.

Best bass in this price range with EQ

I have had my new bass two weeks now, my first five-string... takes a little getting used to. It has a nice, thin neck. Has a great sound. Battery compartment is not very user friendly; the cover fits much too snuggly and has to be pryed out of its recess. I am having it worked on to get some string-fret buzz taken care of... Should probably have been done at the factory before it went out, but then again, this is far from their top of the line model. QC isn't what it used to be!

Best Bass for The Price

By Kaffeboy

This is one of the best basses you'll find out there. Especially when it comes to 5-stringers. It also has a sleek neck so you can come up with unbelievable left hand movements on the fingerboard and it also has that phat bass boost everyone loves!

not bad for the bucks

By ray-Oo39w

except for a buzz in the electronics (solved by staying away from fluorecent lighting) the setup out of the box was not bad it plays smooth and fast. and it looks pretty good on stage at church.

Great bass

By IbanezBassist777

from Florence, Al

I have been playing this bass for five months, and it is still awesome, but, the pickup battery runs out kind of quik, but the quality is almost as good as a Music Man Sting Ray 5 and alot cheaper, and I can live with one of these, since it is a great bass i think i can use this one for a long time too, i do not think i will get a replacement for it until another 2 yrs at least, unless I get stupid and damage something, but this is overall an excellent bass and Ibanez is a great bass company.

A huge step up from the 200 line

I just purchased the SR305 as my first 5 string. My first bass was a GSR200. I have to say even just playing on the E,A,D,G strings, this bass plays and sounds 5 times better. I've played on a lot of expensive 5 strings and the Low B seems to be very "floppy" on a lot of them. This one has it a little too, but not bad at all. Just takes some getting used to working that big string. Slapping is FUN just takes some tweaking of the knobs and you can get a pretty good sound. Overall this is an awesome bass for the money and a great first 5 string.

ibanez is awesome

Great 5 String

By Rob-hQ_uP

from Dracut, MA

I got this bass as my first 5 string, and it definitely hasn't dissapointed me. The strings are a little bit close together, but its worth having to be a little more accurate anyways, because the neck is narrow enough that it dosent make it awkward to play if you have small hands. Overall, its a great 5 string.

Best 5 string so far!!

By Alex-3I3Ct

from Los Angeles, CA

One of my friends owns this bass. At first i thought to myself are 5 strings that good? Then i found out for myself. What i really like about it is that it has a 3rd knob that controls the deepness and highness of the sound. It is 2 layered knob. Also the neck isn't that wide so if you have small hands, like me, then this is the 5 string for you. It's light so if your shoulder can't take it during long gigs then you will "fall in love" with this bass. So to put it all together if any of the above convince you then you got to get this bass.

By Kaffeboy-MGgCG

I bought this bass as my second bass once I got serious into bass playing. Ibanez has been my brand since the beginning. I love the tone this baby whispers. Some frets should have gotten more attention during construction, other than that...AWESOME!

Save The Money

By Joe Ray

from Bolingbrook, IL

I bought this bass when I was still pretty new and impulsive. It looked great and sounded ok in the store, and that was all I wanted. The strings rattle terribly, even if you replace them. The action on my G-string sounds like a bee. The main volume and tone knobs fell off. It scratches easily. I do not recommend this bass to anyone, unless you simply want to destroy it.

Great tone and craftsmanship.

Good DX5 pickups and an active EQ are of high quality and are not usually seen on basses of this price.
