For the money, it deserves 10s all the way...except for one thing (but you don't have a criteria for this, so I didn't downgrade it anywhere)...the factory setup SUCKS, which is why the strings buzz like crazy...but all I had to do was set it up for my style of play and it was golden. It would be nice if it had a 35" scale (for the low B), but I had no trouble getting rid of the initial floppiness of the B string...I've been playing for 27 years. My first bass was a Peavey T-45, then a Rickenbacker...I wanted a low-to-mid-level 5-string so I could finally see what all the younger players were playing around with. I'm very happy with this instrument...very fast (while I'm a 6-foot guy, I have small hands, so I LOVE the neck) and the sound is very versatile...I play it through a GK stack and it sounds every bit as good as both of my 4-strings. The band I'm in plays everything from Cream to The Who, to AC/DC, ZZ Top, Rush, Stones, April Wine, BOC...extremely eclectic...but it does an admirable job on everything we play...I'm very happy...I wish it came in other colors...this would be a beatiful bass in red with gold hardware...sigh...can't have everything (Ibenez tends toward what I feel are blah and ugly colors for their instruments...oh well...it's still a great bass).

I've owned the bass for 3 years now and its turning to crap... the input jack is all screwed up (even after replacing) every time you change the strings, you have to adjust the action. it's a good bass for beginners, but if you're gonna buy one, use it for practice. other than that, it plays nice, good for slap and muddy metal.

        Incredible value.

This thing is amazing for the price. I've owned this bass for a year and a half. I originally bought it specifically for teaching beginners... many kids have a five-string these days, and my custom bass has only four. I also wanted something that I could beat on a bit. This instrument shocked me with its design, durability, tuning stability, and tone. I can't tell you how highly I would recommend this bass for any beginner who wants a five-string.

        Awesome 5 String

I have been using this bass for 2 years and it is by far the best bass I have ever played. The tone that this bass produces is excellent. I play in a metal setting and this bass has the punch needed and then some! I highly reccomend it! Buy it, you won't be disapointed!

Great deal for the money, except:

This was the first 5 string I've ever owned. My other bass is an SR400. The pickups on the 305DX pretty much suck compared to the sr400. the rotary pickup switch doesn't do much (i.e)turned to full front or fullbridge pretty much sounds the same, dead center allows good balance between highs and lows but no balls. The dual tone control is a piece of crap, the lows only come through when turned all the way up, and the tone(high) has an evil shshsh if it's turned more than halfway up. The soap bar pickups just don't do it for me. Good tone can cost you a fortune, but if your a tone freak like I am I would suggest an upgrade in the pickups or a higher end guitar. the playability of this guitar is everything you'd expect from an Ibanez. But the electronics leave much to be desired.

        Pleasantly Suprised !

I own a few higher end Ibbies. An SRX 655, and an ATK 305. Knowing this is the Mid range entry level model I expected it to be crappy. Boy was I shocked! This bass is great! It's simple and solid. Great feel, sound, and quality. My Third 5 string Ibanez. I love it.Don't be fooled by the country of orgin {Indonesia} or the price. They did this one right.I changed the strings to GHS Boomers and lowered the action and adjusted the intonation. No neck adjustment needed! If you want a low priced good quality 5 string, grab an SR 300DX!

        Fantastic bass

        By eoak134

I own this bass and it's amazing. You can get such a variety of sounds with the tone and bass boom knob, I do suggest this bass if you play any sort of metal, and even jazz (I'm even in my school jazz band haha)Because the tone can give you such a great pop. I was very fortunate to only get this bass barely used, (with a Brand new Levy's 60$ soft case) This bass sounds well distorted as well and did I mention the great tone? haha. So yea buy this bass, now.

        Another Genius From Ibanez

        By MC_NC9two5

        from California

I started playing four strings and wanted a fifth string for my birthday and when I got this bass, it was incredible. The clear tone of all the strings is great and the incredibly smooth neck makes playing it a breeze. This bass is also great for all kinds of music, if your more into jazz, metal, and latin like I am, this bass is perfect for it, its also great for slapping. So if your looking for an affordable five string that is Grade A quality, this is the perfect bass. (NOTE) If you get this bass and hear that the high strings are a little buzzy, its fine. Just adjust the bridge to raise the action.

        Ibanez awesomeness

        By Anonymous

This bass ownz as a backup bass! I went to the local guitar store and I COULD NOT PUT THIS BASS DOWN!!! I must have sat in the store for about 90 minutes just jammin on this sweet bass. After that, I knew I just HAD to buy it. I took it home and started playing it through my GK Microbass amp and I was stunned. Then, I plugged it into my GK stack and it blew me away! Excellent backup bass for a higher level player, or a great bass for a mid-level player. I had considered buying a Fender to back up my Ernie Ball Stingray 5-String, but after playing this bass, my mind is set on Ibanez.

        Sweet Bass

        By MC-vAwQH

I bought this bass after playing for a year. It is a lot better than the starter pack that I have. The range is awesome and on the right amp it is louder than most basses on the same amp. It sure beats my band's guitarist on his 100 watt amp when I?m on my 100 watt amp.

        THE SOUND!!!

        By ThatBassGuy

        from Bothell, WA

I got this bass yesterday for my birthday. From the moment I took it out of the box I loved it. Its incredibly light, its got a lightning fast neck, and sleek looks to top it all off. Plugged in it has insane low end tone, its comfortable, and the DX5 pickups allow you to make it sound... well however you want really. The price is great too. Trust me get this bass. It'll blow your mind!!!
