This is an awesome bass. I got it about a year ago as my second bass. I really wanted a 5-string, but i was on a limited budget. I saw it first in the Musicians Friend catalog and fell in love with it. I bought it finally and can't put it down. It's amazingly versatile. I get a great funk sound with the monster pickups blended and the bass and treble up 3/4 of the way. I get a good jazz sound with the neck pickup soloed, bass boosted a little, and the treble cut a little. I love the growl and punch of the bridge pickup soloed and the EQ all the way up. The giant bridge and neck-through-body construction give amazing sustain. The control cavity looks neat and orderly, but it lacks threaded brass screw holes. The separate batttery compartment does have the brass holes, though. The action on this bass is awesomely low... just how I like it. The output is really loud, too. It's got tons of headroom and great string spacing for my agressive slapping. It's an awesome bass, especially for the price.

Maybe I got the bad one out of the bunch. I purchased this bass a month ago and had to r.a. it because the tone really sucked. It had a hollow and static-like sound that I couldn't get rid of. If you've ever heard how an active bass sounds with a dead battery, then you'll know what I'm talking about. this is how the bass sounded all of the time even with a fresh battery installed. Otherwise the base looks nice, has a nice tolerable weight and a very skinny neck for for fast hand movement. I didn't really care for the bridge saddles at all and the elixer strings didn't stay tuned very well. Like I said maybe this is generally an awesome guitar and I unfortunately got a defective one.

Good but not great

By SpiceBot

from Beaverton, OR

This bass would be very good in a setting where you have trouble cutting through the mix. In a well mixed room, this bass has almost no dynamic range, has a very muddy tone, and the B string is so loud it's almost unplayable. I'd recommend something with EMG's.

It is a work of art!

By Pnut311cjt420

This bass is not only beautiful but, as well a fun insturment to play! You can tune it into a low B. It can project both mellow notes and grinding hard notes. Over all stating, it is just a absolute work of art to play and to have the pleasure of hearing! I highly suggest trying this model Ibanez.

Greater Basses

By rutk

from Atlanta, GA

I just picked this up to replace a Jackson that I love. The fifth string is one of the biggest bonuses for me, I have a range that I was incapable without a retune. The stock pickups are great too, Ibanez remains the best maker of musical equip. for our band (Punk / Metal). I would not recommend this for new players.

Not Exactly Versatile

By The dude-Cq725

This bass rocks hard. Bottom line. The Dual Humbuckers put out so many highs and lows it will kick her butt to bejesus and back. The only problem with this bass lies in the versatility issue. Poeple have been saying its versatile, but it really isn't. I most definitely wouldn't use this puppy to play gospel or bluegrass. But when all is said and done, this bass delivers where it promises to: in the hard rock category. I have even used it to play some jazz funk, because the slap tone you can get outta this bass is amazing.

the perfect live bass for a 5 slinger

By Sean Barnett

the fat pickups, neck through, ash wings, simple plug-n-play EQ, along with the string height... you just can't go wrong. perfect for the tech-savy bass player. if you reference your influences as wooten, miller, wimbish, flea, or ryno, your essential live bass should be this one. ibanez does universal basses right. and they know what players are looking for, and how to make a good looking bass. steal the lead singer's groupies, and the show with this in-your-face bass.

This is a very good bass

By Torrtrefireto

from Frederick Maryland

I recently picked up this bass. It's pretty darn good, I went to a locak store with a blank in my mind, other than the fact that I wanted a 5 string bass. I came out with what I think is the best 5 string bass money can buy in the price range.

Solid & Awesome Bass

Easy to play and extremely solid at the low end. Less string noise than other 5-strings I've tried. You can't go wrong with this bass!

Not for the faint of heart

If you like warm tones and play with perfect technique, go buy a Warwick. If you like a bass that's loud and cracks with authority, this is it. This bass loves to get smacked! For Hard-Rock lovers only...

Fret buzz

By AXE-GQbVh

from Florida

Spent some time with this bass and really like the sound playability. There was some buzzing aroung the 10th fret area and just wanted to get that fixed and figured it would no biggie. It ended up being a show stopper. The tech could not resolve this problem and said that even with a full setup that he doubts the problem could be fixed. Tried another one it was worse! Starting off from the factory buzzing on nearly every fret! The tech was shocked and said this was very uncharacteristic of Ibanez. This was the first he had seen of this model and is a bit concerned.

Excellent bang for the buck!

By ChiTownBassist

from Chicago

I did have to set it up correctly (adjust the truss rod, adjust the height of the strings). The B string needed intonation. But once these tasks were complete, this became an accurate, solid, and smooth playing bass. The active tone system is so loud, I have to back off the bass knob just a bit to avoid clipping (distortion) on the B string, but that's why God created knobs. The versatility of the tone system allows you to dial in for any playing style or genere of music. The pickups are loud and noiseless with excellent response. The wood is gorgeous and of high-quality. For being made in Korea, this axe looks and plays like a high-quality Japanese or even an American made. I very happy with the purchase.

No Need To Look Any Further!

By Keith15001

I played a Tobias Growler for over 9 years. I figured it was time for a change of basses, so I tried several basses including the Ibanez SRX705. This is a very powerful bass, also good for thumping. The controls are simple: volume, pickup balance, bass and treble. Try it...you will like it.

really good bass

By Wolf-.Y4bJ

To those who say this bass isn'nt versatle or is limited in any way needs to change intruments. You can play ANY type of music with this bass if you can PLAY bass. I own 2 of them. You can get a lemen in any thing, but bar that these basses are a bass players' dream. I've been playing bass for 40 years and would put this bass up against any of them.

i just pick my bass after a long time because when i ordered it, it wasnt on stock, but the wait worth the money and time, i tried my new baby with the eq in flat( bass and amp) just to hear how good is it, and cant belive what was i hearing. this bass have an incredible sound, you can do a lot with the 2 band eq and the pick up selector. i have to leave this review here because i want to play it one more time before i go to sleep.

Best bass I've ever seen

By ProDigit

Versatility, this one is!The front pickup gives you the deep tone, while the rear pickup gives you a modern pastorius sound (kinda like Victor Bayley sound, only better).Use them together and you got a solid Rock sound!I love using rear pickup in a trio: bass, guitar, drums; or bass, synth, drums. There where the bass can be heard, and takes the bottom lead and middle region.Add a little bass to the rear pickup, and treble if you like, and I can say this bass is the best bass for the buck!

monster pickups for a powerful but clear sound

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I am a beginning bass player so I don't know much about basses, but your ears don't lie. A music store manager who has been playing bass for 13 years helped me sample several basses. I asked him to play them for me as his playing gave me a much better idea as to the quality. This bass stood out among its peers in this price range. The massive pickups with two rows of magnets each produce a powerful but clear sound that resonates with authority. The through-neck gives great sustain. The bottom line is that with this axe you get a lot of bass for your money.
