Comments about Kala Solid Top Fretless Acoustic Electric U-Bass:

I got the fretless model and I'm thrilled with it. I've been playing bass for 20 years and have a collection of solid bodies, acoustics and uprights. I have small hands and playing near the nut is difficult for my hands to stretch out for all four frets-positions. The U-bass is the same size as my baritone ukulele and thus it is easy to play in first position. Suddenly my small hands and slender fingers are an asset. I'm all over this bass and having a wonderful time playing it. The one question I had was what would it sound like? It might be tiny, but this thing has thunder in it. It must be the strings. They are made of some sort of polymer and are huge. They have an amazing feel and their sound is as deep as anything I've ever played. I've only had the bass two weeks and I find I still need to tune every time I play, but I'm used to nylon strings on classical guitars and hope that in time these strings will stay in tune a bit longer. There's a good tuner build in with the preamp, so tuning it up isn't a problem. I have an assortment of bass amps and I would recommend that you try to use your best amp with this bass. Its sound deserves to be felt as well as heard. Let the lead instruments supply the lightening, this baby brings the thunder. On the second day I had it I brought it to an open rehearsal. People kept coming into the room drawn in by the sound I was getting from this bass. When they saw the tiny instrument they couldn't believe it was generating all this sound and tone. Everyone wanted to try it. I think fretless is the way to go with this sized instrument and these strings. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I am.

Comments about Kala Solid Top Fretless Acoustic Electric U-Bass:

I am a guitar player not a bass player so this is the perfect instrument to explore bass playing and for adding bass tracks to my recordings. It is very well made and plays beautifully with a full rich bass sound when amplified or recorded direct. It has a surprising amount of sound unamplified with a really nice resonance. I love that it is fretless but the frets are marked with inlays.

Comments about Kala Solid Top Fretless Acoustic Electric U-Bass:

Not much to say: if you are a bass or double bass player, and you are tired of dragging around your huge instrument, this is the top choice. Of course you can't compare the sound to a real double bass, but for everything that requires an acoustic sound and doesn't necessarily imply the use of the bow, the sound is as near as you can get to the real thing. Plus, it is super easy to play. I got the fretless and even if I was a little worried about intonation on such a small instrument, I have to say there is absolutely no problem, especially when you get used to it. Now I am using it for reharsals, jam sessions and concert in places too small to be comfortable with a double bass, and I really have to say it is awesome. It goes alone that you have anyway to match a good amplifier, the piezos on the istrument do a great job.
I have only one little con to express, but I can't tell if it is because the strings are new: strings don't stay perfectly in tune for too long, so now and then during a session I have to tune the instrument...but hey, it is definitely worth it.

Comments about Kala Solid Top Fretless Acoustic Electric U-Bass:

Being an electrical (fretted) bassist, the acoustic fretless ubass has a new and exciting sound. I only played it a few days. Its sound is rich and groovy. Preamp and tuner work well. It gets out of tune pretty quickly, maybe because the strings are new. The gig bag is excellent. MF service was excellent, too.

Comments about Kala Solid Top Fretless Acoustic Electric U-Bass:

Great bass, lots of fun to play. I already have an Ashbory, so small scale and non-traditional strings aren't new to me. I've only had it a couple of days, but it is definitely easier to play than the Ashbory, the longer scale length and less-rubbery strings make a big difference. If you've ever played baritone uke this is almost exactly the same scale. Tone is great, I had to tweak it a little bit plugged in - the higher notes were coming through a little louder than the lows, but nothing a little EQ didn't cure. Lots of fun for playing acoutically while practicing/messing around, but there's not enough acoustic volume to hold up to playing with others. However, I'm not aware that any acoutic bass has enough volume to go head to head with a guitar. Build quality is very good, haven't noticed any flaws. There's not a gloss finish or anything, the wood feels a little bare, but the wood is of a quality where this is fine, at least aesthically. The gig bag works well.
