Overall nice woody sound. Needs a preamp. The design allows for a needed choice of the sound you are going for. I use a Markbass pre. to make the sound less edgy. Fishman also makes a nice one too. Takes getting use to. The stand is very light and needs to be set just right not to rattle. I use this all the time in a jazz setting. The first time you set it up you will love the ease of use.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Big Kydd upright from Kydd Bass. I found a really good tone with this bass after trying it with an acoustic instrument amp. Very natural sounding but with some fingerboard buzz. Heavy gauge flatwounds helped but after spending $200 for string experiments I gave up. The strings are secured at the head with set screws. Too loose and the string comes out when tuned up, too tight and the screw cuts through the string and it breaks. Tradeincashout.com/mfriend refused it. Today a part of the stand broke and one leg won't stand up. I'm taking it to The Goodwill and donating it.
