A one-of-a-kind look and a lot more.
Part of the "Lace Red Label Series" by Don Lace, this patented Helix bass guitar features an innovative body shape that is sleek and sensuous. In fact, if the Batmobile transformed into a bass guitar, it would resemble the Lace Helix. The control knobs are not your usual thimble-shaped metal or kitchen timer styled plastic caps, but rather data-system style control knobs—similar to those you put your fingertip on to fast forward to your favorite song on modern recording and playback equipment.
This bolt-on neck version has a 34" scale length, maple neck, mahogany body with finishes that highlight the subtleties of the natural wood grain. The top strap post as well as the output jack are hidden on the back side for a clean look upfront.
Looks aren't everything. Incorporating a single, revolutionary Alumitone bass pickup, created by Jeff Lace, you'll find that the Helix electric bass has ample volume and tenacious tone. With its current-driven design, rather the traditional voltage based pickups, the Alumitone delivers higher fidelity, or broad-band response, that helps to create a tighter top-end, more mid-range and a huge bottom end. This passive pickup outperforms many active systems, and the sonic output level generally exceeds that of similar preamp-equipped basses.
We'd be remiss not to mention the environmentally friendly aspect of the Helix bass. The Alumitone eliminates the need for conventional pickups with a preamp and battery, giving you a lighter, more balanced guitar, without compromising output or performance, and, as a bonus, you'll never have to pollute the earth with discarded batteries.
Uncompromising, unconventional, unlike anything else...the new bolt-on neck Helix bass.

I am the proud owner of a Rickenbacker, Hofner, and now the Lace Helix 5 string natural finish bass guitar. All I can say is that they all have their own distinct sound and feel. This Lace guitar sounds sick when you adjust the treble a bit and move away from a muddled sound. Without much affects it reminds me of the hard driven Entwistle sound with that great growl and sustain. More sustain than the Rick, which is known for its sustain....
Excellent value. I was curious. Very happy with the Lace.
Excellent value. This bass got a good review in BP magazine so I gave it a try. Great bottom sound. Plays very well. I use it for a backup to my P-Bass. I've been playing for nearly 40 years and it's unique and compares very well.
This bass is beautiful and well made. There, I've said all I can say nice about it. The neck is more like a baseball bat than an instrument. The strings are horrendous. The pots bind and scratch and the highly touted Aluma-Tone pickup is weak and toneless. Maybe the twice-the-price neck thru is better, but don't waste your time on this one unless you love a big, thick, nasty neck.
