At this level I would like to see straplocks fitted as standard and the rubberised control knobs replaced by something more solid yet equally aesthetically pleasing. The accompanying user leaflet -not really a manual- shows how to get Fender sounds but I do not percieve this bass as a Fender substitute- while Fender's basses produce classic sounds, the 55-94 Deluxe will give a very decent rendition of same, but I would like the accompanying manual stress the very capable sounds unique to this bass. (perhaps, to be fair, Lakland has already addressed this). That said, the owner will likely have sussed this out for him/herself. I have a Fender and it has its place.
Think Mercedes here: superlative engineering, amazing sounds, classic looks, oozing quality. A bespoke bass by any standards with outstanding playing feel.
There are reviews out there of this bass that are written by players more skilled with the pen than I.
This is one superbly crafted instrument with amazing playability and sounds and it looks stunning. Mine has a quilted maple top and birdseye maple fingerboard on a very playable ,smooth and, for a 5, relatively narrow neck. Fretwork, controls and hardware are top-notch. There is no evidence of any corners cut here, it is an artisan-level instrument.
It is of light weight and oozes quality. This bass is expensive new but I've played them all and it's fairly safe to say that it's quite likely one of the very best you can buy, it really is that good. It has a huge range of easily accessible sounds and the low 'B' is taut, due to a 35'' scale.
The Lakland 55-94 has to be about as good as it gets-I've been gigging mine for a few years now.
There have been no issues whatsoever. This is a bass you'll keep, a serious professional-grade piece of kit. Truly an outstanding instrument, of that I have no doubt at all.
Outstanding quality and exhibits a well-engineered feel. For example, the headstock is reassuringly thick, adding to sustain, the hardware is excellent as is electrical shielding (copper), bolt-on but extreemely solid neck/body join,etc,-the list goes on. Output jack-perfect, no issues in a sometimes Achilles heel of basses.
What are you paying for? An exquisite instrument and quite possibly the finest expression of the luthier's art combined with, I'm assuming, computer-aided production methods.
If you define value as what you get divided by what you pay then yes, I have to score this bass high on value.

Comments about Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass:
I upgraded from a Skyline 44-02 because I loved the Lakland quality and I really wanted a 5-string. The fifth string really adds a lot to my playing ability. The 35 inch scale produces a beautiful rich B String. I played with it a Christmas concert with a professional pianist and the sound guy couldn't get over the bass coming through the system. This guitar is really magnificent. It is well built, sounds incredible, and is really fun to play. I have about 6 bass guitars but I rarely play anything but this one. It will spoil you. Yes, it's expensive but I believe it is well worth it.

Comments about Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass:
I played at the store the 55-02 model and blows me away! Actually I'm saving money to buy the 55-02 model (the best bass I've ever played. Stop your searching and buy now a lakland!) BUT maybe someone that owned or tested the 55-94 can explain me why is soooooooo expensive this model? i'm trying to figure out why the price is far beyond to the 55-02 model because the set-up and features are the same... but if you have the money to afford this model don't waste your time and buy now.
Comments about Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass:
I bought my Lakland 55-94 Deluxe in teal burst from a mate of mine. Also owning a MusicMan Stingray 5 & Fender Marcus Miller Jazz 5, this is in my opinion one of the best 5's available today. This baby honestly changed the way I play, you only need the lightest touch to achieve some of the phatest tones I have heard. I used the 55-94 at a large concert (where I was the house bassist) with one of the worlds best sound guys, pumping through state of the art L-Acoustic line array speakers. The sound guy was blown away by the sound, he couldn't believe how consistent the bass was changing from note to note, while maintaining a phat, clear & detailed sound. Almost for got to mention - this bass has a 35" scale, resulting in HUGE sustain & the most tightest & focused B string ever realized. Not to mention the tonal versatility. I could go on forever about this bass, but I won't! Would be very surprised is anyone was disappointed with this bass. Check out the awesome Jackie Clark on YouTube grooving the 55-94 by checking the first hit when searching "angie stone live in amsterdam"
Comments about Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass:
I actually own a Skyline 44-02, but walked into a local music store and there in the high middle sat a teal burst 55-94. Holding it felt amazing, nothing like the 44-02 or any other 5-string I've played. I hooked up to an Ampeg SVT4pro and 810 classic. I didn't even touch the head, just the bass eq. The tone was so warm it could melt butter. If you have the money, try it, buy it... you won't regret it.

Previously used a Skyline 55-02 for 3 years. I ordered my 55-94 Deluxe,I recived it Jun 06. Went right out on tour starting that summer. Right out of the hard shell case this bass felt like a dream. Great workmanship and detail. Dan and John thank you LDH

Nice feel, Clear B-string, Wide range of effective tones....
Comments about Lakland Deluxe 55-94 5-String Bass:
I have owned a 55-94 deluxe a yer already and i heaven't seen a bass with this kind of b flat also the possibility to turn from a fender j bass to a musicman is amazing, that gives a tremendous batton, perfect mids, and amazing highs that makes the lakland comparable to top line basses i have played for an affordable price.
