    A GREAT BASS!!!

Comments about MTD Kingston Artist 5-String Bass Guitar:

I have owned my MTD bass for 8 years now and it is a great bass. I love the zero fret and the tone is very aggressive. The neck is fast and the spacing is nice (3/4") so if you have fat fingers like mine it helps. The jumbo fret on a 35" scale is the roughest part for me it is quite a stretch on the lower frets 1-4 but that's just my problem having short fingers. Don't overlook the zero fret. The open notes on this bass sound great.

    Pretty good

Comments about MTD Kingston Artist 5-String Bass Guitar:

This is a very, very comfortable bass to play. It is well balanced sitting or standing. The neck is great, the fingerboard is fast, and I love the jazz-bass string spacing on the 5-string at the bridge. The bridge itself is well designed: simple and easy to change strings from. The construction is greater than typical of what you would expect of a Korean import. The neck joint is solid, the finish is nice, and the electronics are all installed and shielded sufficiently for studio work. The "cons" are more of personal cons for my playing style and preferences. Play the bass for yourself to see if it is right for you. That said: I don't particularly like basswood as a body wood. Since the body wood is the main contributor to the tone of a bolt-on bass, I therefore don't particularly care for the tone. Don't get me wrong, it is an MTD with MTD pickup and electronics, and it does sound good. I just don't like the way basswood resonates the vibrations from the strings. In my opinion, alder would have been a better choice since swamp ash is being used for the Heir model. Also, the single MM style pickup is well placed, but falls to the same fate as all single pickup design basses: lack of versitility. I think this bass has a great round, scooped tone. I think adding a pickup at the neck would improve the versitility, giving a more broad range of tones than a single MM style. But, this bass is the "entry level" of MTD's Kingston Series, so I guess you have to start somewhere, right?! ;)I like this bass, but I would save a little more money and buy the Heir or the Z before I would buy this one.
