Comments about MTD Kingston Heir 5-String Bass Guitar:

My first Heir, a first-generation Korean-made model, is great. I expected the quality to improve in every respect with a domestic-made, updated version. While the shrinkage in the neck probably won't be a problem (my first one needed to be filed three times in its 10 year life so far) I was sad to hear the typical crackling in two pots.

I was also looking forward to using the BF tuning system, because the zero-fret of my MIK Heir always caused problems with the B string and I grew tired of filing, filling, fitting, and fretting with the nut. Finally I got a Feiten model, and I just can't keep it in tune for more than a half hour. It intonates extremely well, perhaps better than my MIK MTD. But I've never had something start to go flat as quick as this. It's only a year old though, so maybe it just needs to settle into its new home still. I will say that my adjustments are getting finer and finer with each session, so I think she's coming home finally.

After saying all that, I can tell you that you will not find a better bass for this price that is as well balanced and easy to play when it comes to 35" scale fivers. The neck feel is similar to my Ibanez, in that it feels very thin but very sturdy... not like your straight-headstock Fenders which feel like they're gonna snap off if you get them too warm. The curves are all right where they need to be, just like Michael's old Tobies were. And as sexy as the body lines are, these are not all-frills basses. The Heirs and the Artists are no-nonsense, sleek, simple, and smooth.

I think I'm gonna hafta get a fretless Artist now. Time to throw that old Jaco model in the dumpster. (Sorry, JP)

    A gem

Comments about MTD Kingston Heir 5-String Bass Guitar:

I wish I were fortunate enough to say I own one of these myself, but I have played on a friends extensively for about a year now and I am very impressed with it. It has great action, great tone, great features in terms of all the blends and tone controls, and the thing that stands out for me the most is the neck profile. It's a surprisingly thin neck profile that allows very quick playing. I play it through a SWR 350X paired with an Eden D 210XLT cab and it is thunderous. Love it.

Comments about MTD Kingston Heir 5-String Bass Guitar:

This little beauty has everything you could possible want for a very reasonable price. It plays smooth, the string to string balance is perfect, the pre-amp tones are very useable and the "flat" tone is beautiful & Growly. Buy it!!
