Ok the Bongo bass. Really cool, little tricky at first. I'm normally a P bass guy so all the bells and whistles are sometimes a little distracting. But the Bongo is great and I think it looks awesome too. As with 99.9% of Music Man products, the construction quality, fit, and finish are immaculate. The attention to detail and overall execution are superb for a mass produced instrument. Mine is the Sky Blue color and it is pretty stunning.
The best thing about the 5 string Bongo is that it feels like a 4 string. This was a big deal because I'm usually pretty awkward on 5 strings. The neck profile and 17.5mm string spacing make it feel very natural. The back of the neck has a super smooth matte finish, not the high gloss found on the body - GREAT feature. It's also very well-balanced and comfortable especially when standing up. The bottom horn can be kind of a pain when sitting down.
The Bongo is arguably Music Man's most "modern" bass. It certainly looks modern, or futuristic, or retro futuristic. I don't know but it turns heads that's for sure. It has 24 frets, a 4 band EQ, neodymium pickups, blend knob, and a built in magnet for old men who want to talk about gear. You're not going to find those features together on any other MM basses. It's a pretty bad bear. BMW helped design it for God's sake.

I've owned this bass for about 2 years and I sold it a year ago. Overall I was very disappointed about this bass the sounds I could get out of it were mediocre cruelly lacked punch in the mid range, the bass was too boomy and the high were too shrilling althought it is pretty versatile because of it's 4 band active preamp I was never able to dial the tone I wanted. The bass wood body was much too light weighted for my taste I prefer Mahogany to me the heaviest an instrument is the heavier it sound. Another huge drawback for me was how noisy the preamp was. I play metal and I like to use distortion on my sound but when I did the hiss got so loud it was like if a snow storm was covering up my sound, terrible electronic. To be honest the only positive point I have to say about this bass was it's playability. The bass felt awesome the neck was slim and fast and the string spacing was perfect for pick, finger style and slap playing. Overall the value of this bass is terrible, incredibly overpriced save yourself a lot of money and buy something else this bass it is definetly not worth the investment.

Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
I am quite pleased with the Bongo 5 I recently purchased from Musicians Friend. This is my first 5-string so I don't have a frame of references. This bass is much heavier than others I have held, however, it plays very well. The action from the factor was spot on. The low B has an awesome growl. The wide neck gives me some trouble thanks to my arthritis, however; I will work through it. The electronics are amazing on this thing. I'm quite pleased with the four band eq and preamp powered by an 18v system.

Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
I own the 6 string version of this bass in all black Stealth with the ebony fingerboard. First of all, I was never into Music Man basses and was never into their sound. However, I saw the Stealth version and it immediately intrigued me. The design of the bass is a take-it or leave-it with most people. I personally like the design more than what I dislike it. Second, I decided to get the bass and from the moment I opened the case I was blown away! The craftsmanship, finish, playability, weight, and overall feel are IMMACULATE! I mean, it just rocks!Third, the sound is HUGE! This thing is loud! I have had no need to turn the volume knob past 2! The 4-band EQ is genius and a God-send! The fretboard is thin and the best I have ever played for a six string! Fourth, at first the only thing that dissapointed me was the slap sound. I just couldn't really find it when I played it through a headphone amp. I am a tone snob. HOWEVER, I just played this bass at church through my Ibanez Promethean rig running 500 watts and I was hooked! This thing really comes alive with a good rig and the slap sound was incredibly modern and it was one of the sounds I was looking for. I guess this bass really comes alive and shows all its bells and whistles when played live or through a good studio. You will not be dissapointed. This thing is worth its weight in gold and now I'm a believer!

I've been playing different music styles for 10 years now, mostly rock, and I had a hard time looking for the correct sound. Now that I have this Bongo baby I'm totally playing with a fresh and unique sound. Only if you tweek here and a little there, you have yourself a different sound. This Bass is totally awesome!!!!
Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
I've owned this bass for a year, and Don't even play my other bass. This bass gives me everything I could want in a bass, I can go from a Motown thump, to a biting tone to solo with.
Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
The EBMM Bongo 5HH is absolutley the best bass I have owned and played in my 30 years of playing. The neck is slim and fast, the 18v EQ/Pu config.has an enormous tonal range second to none. The finish is brilliant and the overall weight and balance is perfect. If you can afford one,get it NOW! You'll love it! Your bandmates will love it. It WILL become your 'go to' bass. Awesome quality.
Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
I owned one of these for about a year. I played it in a country band, a tribute band, and a college ensemble. This bass has great electronics. I would set the EQ on my amp and use the frequency knobs in conjunction to add signal boost. However, the case that was included wasn't deep enough to hold the bass and damaged the volume/pickup/EQ controls over time.I live in a small town, so, whenever I played near home, I was complimented on the flashy looks of the instrument. Decent aesthetics are always a plus. My bass was stolen, so, I know somebody probably liked it a bit too much.It arrived in tune and set up from the factory. The action was nice and low, it played great, and gave me no problems for a year. The pickups are the kind that make even the deadest of strings shimmer. All that being said, I would suggest buying an inexpensive bass that feels good to play and modifying it after the fact (new pickups, hardware, etc.). I payed too much money for something that was inevitably stolen because of its worth and extravagance.
Comments about Music Man Bongo 5-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:
It was absolutely worth the wait!!!I've been playing bass for almost 10 years. Previously I was playing a Schecter Stiletto Elite 5-string, which I liked. Until I got this! The wave of sound that comes from this bass in unreal. It has more low end than any bass I've ever played. The thing is though, you've got nearly ending tweaking options with the 4 knobs for for EQ! Plus, you've got a pick-up pan knob and a single volume knob.I always have to turn everything down when I plug this baby in, because most places I've played, didn't have the equipment to handle this bass properly. Another sweet thing this bass has got is an incredibly thin neck. Now, I don't mean it's puny, but a lot of times, the necks on 5 string guitars are pretty thick and sometimes wear your hand out. Not this one! The first thing I thought when I played it for the first time was, "This neck feel like a 4 string". To me, that was huge. It doesn't affect the sustain or the huge, meaty tone at all! It just helps you play longer! If you're in the market for a GREAT 5 string bass with absolutely KILLER tone, buy this! Plus, it's got the coolest body! I've gotten LOADS of compliments, just for how good this bass looks. Not to mention how good it sounds when you play!
