Music Man

The StingRay armed with dual humbuckers.

Few basses are as flat-out cool or have as much powerful tone as the famous StingRay. When it was introduced in 1976, it was the first bass to feature active electronics and advances such as a 6-bolt neck joint, contoured body, superior neck truss rod system, and rock-solid bridge to keep it on top of the pack. Constructed with a select hardwood body, maple neck, Schaller BM tuners, and 3-band active EQ, this version features dual Music Man humbucking pickups with 5-way switching for an even greater range of sound. Includes hardshell case.

Features

  • 2 massive humbucking pickups with 5-way switching and 3-band active preamp
  • Select hardwood body
  • Maple neck
  • Schaller BM tapered-post tuners

The StingRay is the favorite of the funksters, and this version has dual humbuckers for more power and tonal range. Order today.

I find this bass to be absolutely amazing! The known Musicman quality is definity here. I didn't think I would ever beat out my Rickenbacker for my favorite bass, but this one wins by a long shot.

Finish: The finsih on the instrument is flawless. I ordered the white, (which it seems Musiciansfriend really carries the color White Pearl) but is gorgous. So classy and well done. The matching head and great poly finsh really tie it all together.

Neck:Wow! Over the years I have grown very comformtable with necks with finish on the back, (Rickenbacker, Epiphone, Gibson, etc.) but the light oil finish on the back of the neck is just so smooth and just feels like home. The fret job seems to be well done and no flaws whatsoever. I love this neck.

Pickups: Two, count 'em TWO Musicman humbuckers! So only about $70 more than a standard Stingray, you get so many more possiblilies. I really don't see the reason in getting just the single pickup. With the 5 way swith you get the standard Stingray sound, a very nice P-Bass sound (postition 4) and a very dark, yet aggressive mudbucker type sound. (postition 5). Not to mention that you still have two more options and very powerful active electronics. I don't see why I didn'y buy one of these sooner.

The bass comes in a decent hardshell case that has the musicman name on the outside. It's intonation and setup were pretty spot on out of the box and just beggs to be played. I only have one complaint, my other basses aren't getting any playing time!

This bass was poorly set-up. I had to take it straight to my luther to work on the lower E
string fret noise and the playing height was near impossible to set for a clean feel. I should have returned it but I really like the tone quality and variable pitch balances it can produce. So I made the additional investment to make it a player. It's nowhere as solid as my 72 Fender J bass but I did buy it because I wanted a totally different sound, also the unfinished quality of the back of the neck can cause you to make a lot of manual playing adjustments with your left hand. I don't recommend the stingray HH to a novice , I'm also perplexed by Randy Jacksons glowing approval of this axe. I'm sure he wasn't playing one off the rack. This is my third guitar from Musician's Friend and my first bad experience.

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

This bass is great. The fret ends are perfectly filed. The neck needed a slight truss rod adjustment because the fretboard had a soap dish bow. It took one turn and now it's perfect. The bass sounds great and feels great. I can't find any faults beside the neck adjustment. If you don't like this this bass you might have got yourself a lemon and need to complain. My favorite bass next to a custom shop bass.

        Sting Ray HH is H - O - T!

        By Red Hour Bassist

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

        Love Love Love!!
I've owned a Fender P, an Ibanez Sound Gear, an Ibanez BTB, a Ric 4003, a Warwick, a Sting Ray, and a few other basses over the years. The Sting Ray HH far exceeds all of them! Already a great sounding and versatile bass, the extra pick up in the HH makes this bass a MONSTER. RIght out of the box, the action is smooth, the strings are slinky and the bottom end growls like no other without sacrificing the bright highs. I'm a big proponent of Bartolini pick ups, but the dual HH pickups are soooo much better. My bass is a transparent gold model...and the picture does not do any justice to the beauty of the wood grain on the actual bass. I can't put it down.

Most amazing bass I have ever played

        By BassFace-rtCI7

        from New Jersey

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

Overall there is no better bass you can get. The neck is adjusted perfectly, your hand easily slides across the neck, your fingers move around the fret board with ease, and the tone is better by far then any other. If you are serious about playing bass I would suggest trying to put the money together to get one of these because there is absolutely no dissapointment in it.
The amazing tone of this instrument is like any other. The duel pick ups allow for a wide range of sounds. No matter What kind of music you play this bass is the one you need! I ordered my bass off of musicians friend after playing it at guitar center and having it recommended by my teacher and I coudn't be happier. After taking it out of the box the entire bass was adjusted almost perfectly. The only thing I had to do was lower the bridge a little bit to get it right where I like it. The back of the neck has already been sanded down allowing your hand to easily glide across it and to play with ease. Not only does it play amazing but it looks amazing too. I got mine in black cherry burst and the look of this bass is simply stunning.
Never have I played a bass like this one. If your looking for a top quality bass this one beats all others. I was deciding between this and a fender p bass and this one just blows the fender away. There is absolutely no comparison between them. If you have the money to drop on it, there is no better bass that you will be able to find.
This bass is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. This bass cost more then a lot of other basses and thats because it sounds a lot better then any bass i have ever heard. I was however upset that the price varried simply by the color of the bass.

        Wow.

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

I've been shopping around for a new bass for a while, so today I headed over to guitar center and sam ash. I tried several fender models i had been looking at online and some of the $1000 warwick models. The sales associate at GC pointed me to this baby. NONE OF THE OTHER MODELS EVEN COMPARED TO THIS. This bass proved to provide an increadibly wide variety of tones, I could make it sound like anything. It also excels in feel and playability. The neck was glossed and felt increadible against my fingers. I have heard people complain about construction quality in modern stingrays, but this baby proved 'em wrong. No problems with quality whatsoever. When i get the rest of the money to buy this bass, I will not hesitate.

This bass is incredible! I bought a 2007 limited edition in the "Blue Dawn" color off of ebay and it's beautiful! The double humbuckers crank out sick tone with the preamp. The 5-way switch is awesome to! When I got it it had just recently had a pro setup and it still plays like new. I recommend putting on Marcus Miller signature DR Fatbeams for a sick slap tone, if thats your style....you gotta get one of these!

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

I have played many basses in my day, and the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray is by far the best. It has a great sound and handles like a dream. When you get new strings, make sure to get the Ernie Ball Strings, because they really do sound the best on this bass. No contest, this is the best bass ever.

Comments about Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

I can say in all truth, this bass is really good, sound, strong, clean and beautiful. It has a beautiful finishing, very well produced also. It is heavy but compensates for the quality of the instrument. You do not need another bass. Be sure that this will be his final bass! Forget the rest!
