Palatino

A cutaway body makes it easier to play up the fingerboard.

The Palatino Billy Bass 3/4-size upright bass has a cutaway body design for unrestricted access to the upper mid section of the fingerboard. It is one the few cutaway upright basses available on the market, and the Billy Bass offers an unparalleled combination of quality, style, and value.

The Billy Bass produces resonant bowed tones thanks to the spruce top, but maintains classic warmth and crisp tonality from the maple back, sides, and neck. The ebony fingerboard provides excellent durability against string wear. Tyrolean-style bass tuners keep the strings in tune for serious slapping, popping, and upper-neck playing. The double bass's adjustable maple bridge makes it easy change the tone from crisp rockabilly pops to the soft, warm jazz movements.

Its 3/4-size is easy to handle and by far the most common upright bass size used by adult musicians.

Actually I didn't know what to expect! I've hesitated for a while about trying this bass, the first thing that attracted was the style, totally me! So I'm on a budget and can't afford a expensive top line bass. There was a lot of bad press about these basses "it's a china bass etc." and no reviews to back it up! So I decided to go for it, really wanted my own bass. I immediately purchased new strings and decided not to use the factory string's, and I went to get it professionally set up" was not set up"! We were surprised after the set up, the expectation was that the body was going to be flat etc. The front is curved, came with a fine adjustable bridge, nice tuner's, and it looks pretty fly! As far as tone, really nice and clear, my bass teacher was extremely impressed! My CON'S, just that there was a little chipping in the finish, and the pin-striping was a little weak, and two spot's of buzzing! Besides that I am very pleased for what I paid!
