Very good value; neck-thru construction of light mahogany makes for comfortable weight. Two passive humbuckers with V/T V/T controls allow for good variety of sounds. Quiet pickups, no hum even when played thru older tube amps. Mine came out of the box ready to play, great low action and excellent factory setup. The 35" scale makes playing the upper registers easier and keeps the bass notes crisp, even if you drop tune. All the hardware is securely mounted and is industry standard stuff. Lightweight tuners and a string thru body bridge. You will want to consider buying the Peavey case as it does not fit in a Fender-style case very well due to the LONG upper horn. Great Bass and I plan on getting the 5 string model soon.

I had problems right out of the box, chips around the string eyelets, no cut out on the lower horn as pictured and the neck seamed twisted close to the nut, even after adjusting action and truss rod E string buzz at first four frets, Great customer support though and I should be receiving my replacement soon, this bass has potential it has a very fast neck and is very playable.

Best bass for professional gigs

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is a great deal for the serious musician. It's thin smooth neck makes for easy, smooth sliding, while its natural wood tones makes for the best looking bass out there. It has a great treble quality. The bass range on it is still clear, not too mushy. It stays in tune relatively well as well. All this combined with its great natural finish solid neck-through body makes it the only bass I use at gigs.

I have owned this bass for about three years now. I have the lighter color version. This bass stays in tune all of the time. I can take it out of the case even after a week and it will still be in tune. The action is perfect! The finish is perfect!

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass mainly because I have not owned a four string for many years. After reading the specs and reviews I thought i would give it a go. I wasnt looking to buy a high dollar bass because I just wanted a four string for practicing some new techniques and I believe its best to learn something new on a four, kinda like going back to your roots. O.K., now for the 411.simply said, for the money, this bass is a great buy. I have owned Warwick, Tobias, Fender, Ibanez and many other basses over the years,( Ihave been playing for 26 years). The overall feel reminded me of a Tobias Growler, with the exception of the neck. This neck is similar to a soundgear neck just a little thicker but no where as near as thick as a Warwick. The body was flawless out of the box it was even in tune! I like the fact that it is a neck thru and the bridge gives you the option to string through the body or the back of the bridge. I played it through my SWR SM400S via a goliath II and the son of bertha cabs, (4x10 and 1x15). It sounded very good considering the pick ups are passive. Bridge pu alone it has a jazz bass growl, neck pu sound alot like a p-bass. as far as i am concerned this is how stock pu's should sound. Yes they are quiet also. I played it through my daughters drive 10 watt practice amp and it sounded great. In other reviews there was mention that the fret dressing was a little poor. The one I got was absolutely fine, very smooth and no shallow or deep cut wire. This bass will be left in stock condition, no mods for this one! The bottom line is, no its not a warwick but it comes close. if you were to put 18volt active electronics in this thing it would be right on the heels of a warwick or tobias for sound. The body and neck finish is very warm and organic feeling, ( no heavy laquer ). If you are considering buying an Ibanez in the same price range, dont! I have owned several Ibanez basses and I prefer the older, late 80's early 90's models. The new Ibanez soundgears at the same price range blow! The Grind bass just feels and sounds much more expensive then it is.Happy thumping guys!

Amazing bass, wood very durable, neck thru has a warm feel to it. The neck feels really nice on your hand
The onboard volume and pickup control is a great add on.
Played over 400 shows with this bass, its been to 10 states. It has been in -10 degree weather, and 105 degree weather. Never warped, and the wood is still in great shape.
It is a little pricey, but worth every penny if want something different than everyone else.

NOT Just Great For The Price!

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass three years ago when my much more expensive bass fell over at a practice session, instantly snapping it's neck at the nut. With gigs coming up and limited funds due to having to have my original bass repaired, I set out to look for something that would at least get me through the next couple of months. I thought that this bass might at least be decent. Boy was I wrong! It wasn't decent at all, it was incredible! I have small hands even for a guitar player, and this guitar is so easy to play. The pickups are quiet, with very good response. Plenty of lows, and all the highs you'll need. I thought it was a good looking bass in the photos, but when I took delivery, it was even better looking than the photos! I've bought from Peavey when I need something that is at least passable when I didn't have the funds to buy what I would normally buy, knowing that they do a good job at a certain price range. But this is a superior product, worth much more that the MRSP, let alone what you get it for here. I haven't had to mess with the action, no buzzes, great action, and for three years of heavy use, it plays as well as it did initially. Seriously, this is a fine bass instrument. I not only recommend this bass, but would buy it again, and will if I ever have to! Great job Peavey!

I was lead to believe Leo Fender designed and made the best bass'.
    Man is that stupid.
All of Fender's bass' are clunky lumber monstrosities, compared to the Peavey Grind.

    Low cost, big step up

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I'm actually a guitar player, but as I record on my own a lot I've taken up bass over the last coupla years. I started with an Ibanez "starter" bass, which worked just fine to do very basic bass lines. Then I learned to play it - and found that things like fret buzz, poor pickups, etc, really do make a difference. I played the Peavey Grind in a coupla stores, and really liked the feel. I was sold. But I didn't find out how great it is until I owned it and spent some time playing it. It's great!!! The pickups sound good (to me...), the neck through/string through design really adds to the quality of the sound, and it plays/fingers very nicely. Very smooth sounds, and good ability to make variations in your sound. The only downside I found is the 35" scale - it's a lot for a novice player or anyone with small hands, and when I string it thru-body, the E string just BAREly made it to the tuning key. (I use D'Addario XL's, and I think they're actually made for a 34" scale bass...)

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

The hand rubbed finish caught my eye, but the fast neck and easy access to the upper register hooked me. This is a wonderful instrument, and considering the cost. The best value I have seen. Because of the quality of this "low-end" bass I purchased the Peavey Cirrus. Do not be dissuaded by elitist jerks who feel that you must pay $3,000-4,000 for a bass. I've been playing for 25 years-in studio and on the road- and I play whatever damn instrument does "it" for me. Add this one to your collection-you won't regret it.

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is Very nice. I bought it without really playing it, but I do not regret it. this bass has an insane amount of bottom end. But at the same time it can also be very trebly. which is good for slap. I play with several bands and this bass can play funk, rock, country, or anything else that you want it to. It is also very light yet durable.

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I played this bass at a local music store and fell in love with it. It had a great weight and feel to it. It is the best value for a neck-through bass I've ever seen. I've had it for over a year and it's still as good as the day I got it. The only is problem is the 14th fret on the D string, but that might be my fault. All in all this is an excellent bass!

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I thought I would never spend over a $150 bucks on any peavey bass. I could not believe I could get a natural finished bass with neck through construction for this price. Also, I was very pleased how thick, growly and punchy those stock pickups are. This bass is the right weight if you know what I mean. The neck on this bass is right on, with a feel that makes you not want to put it down. This is a bass that I believe has raised the bar for other companies for quality and value.

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

The NTB is a great bass, it has killer tone, great feel, thin neck, great pickups and just looks good. But I had some problems straight out of the box, the D string had some problems at the head, touching the frets and what not, so I went back to the music store and got it repaired, now it is one of the best basses I have ever played!

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I have owned my Peavey Grind Bass 4NTB for about one year now and I can't fault this instrument in any way! Peavey has some of the best sounding bass pickups out there and this bass fits me like a tailored suit! The long, slender neck is so playable and the weight is like a feather compared to the ol' T40s... Although I'm generally a guitar player, this thing makes playin the bass FUN!! Highly recommend!!!

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I have had this bass for almost a year now and the only thing that i had to change is the strings. I would recomend this bass for beginners or experts that cant afford Music Man or Modolus basses. It isnt the best bass that i have ever played but is good and worth the money. It takes some time to get your plucking fingers used to the cut out but once you do its great. If you cant afford one of the high end basses look into this bass.

Comments about Peavey Grind Bass 4 BXP NTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I have been playing for 37 years and have many basses. The Grind NBT BXP bass is the best 4 string bass I have played for the price, hands down. The tone is very good, comparable to my Tobias Growler with slightly less high end. Construction is very good, and the choice of woods makes for a good sounding instrument with a lot of growl that is nice and light to wear. It is very similar in size and sound to the Tobias. The Chinese have got the knack of soapbar pickups and these compare favorably with the Bartolinis on my Ocean and Epiphone instruments. I can hardly wait to put Rotosound RS99's on this instrument- it will sing. It's a little noisy, but I suspect a little more sheilding on the control cavity will remedy this. Basses from the Far East are remarkable these days. It is a shame they weren't available when I started playing. You have a winner here- this is the first Peavey product I have owned since 1976.
