Recieved this bass last week and I am very pleased with my choice. I ordered the black violet quilt top and it is very beautiful looking. The sound,feel,playability of this instrument is superb! The active electronics make this guitar stand out way above the rest in sound. It has perfect balance and it is very easy to play. The neck feels smooth and fast, the action is as good literally as a regular guitar right out of the box. I have not done any adjustments so far because it really doesn't need any, time will tell but, if any it might be to raise the action just a tad. In this price range you get a lot of bass for the money spent, I got a great deal from MF that made this purchase even more sweet. I would highly reccomend this instrument to anyone looking for a Great bass at a very reasonable price.

Buy this instrument. You will not regret it. That's the bottom line, but if you want some context, here it is: I have been a bassist for 30 years, and been through all of the major basic types and pickup configurations. I am not really a fan of active electronics, as it means one more thing that could go wrong on a gig. I dislike relying on a battery, much less 2, but I get ahead of myself. I had been playing a lot of acoustic gigs with a passive instrument, and had been overpowering the place, to get a decent sound that I liked (that is, one where I could hear the low mids), without killing the room. Only my limited-edition Warwick, my only other active bass, could dial in a sound that I could enjoy. Gigs became so frequent that I needed a low-cost "beater" active bass, rather than subject the Warwick to the rigors. The Millenium BXP AC is that low-cost instrument, but is worthy of being a main player to someone serious, and on a budget. It is a step-up instrument at an entry-level price. The QC on my specimen was excellent, and it played great, right out of the box. Yes, your mileage does have the potential to vary, but I have faith in the customer service at Musician's Friend, as well as in Peavey's support, having had experience with both, over the years. My left hand thinks it's a Fender Jazz. My right hand thinks it's a Spector. My ears and right hand can dial in a sound that simply works, regardless of venue. My eyes just love her, and so do the eyes of bandmates and audience-members, alike. The body shape is classic double cutaway, yet modern, sexy, and ergonomic. My maroon specimen has a lovely quilted maple top, and was not bought via Musician's Friend, but I have had plenty of good experiences with that company, so that's why this review is here. The only thing that I would change would be the 2 screws to the battery compartment. I like how the access to the inside of my Kala Ubass (bought here at MF) is tool-free, thanks to the use of small magnets. I may do that mod, using shorter, magnetized screws in the original holes, and embedding metal into the underside of the compartment lid. That's really the only mod needed, for my own tastes. Most people can live with 2 screws to get to the battery compartment, and I carry the right screwdriver, and extra 9v batteries, in my gig bag. I might also add that a Hipshot Xtender is an easy addition, for those who like them, and strap locks let me move with confidence. This instrument has the best bang for the buck in it's price range. It competes with instruments at twice the price. If you are going to spend that kind of money, pair this instrument with a passive Squier Classic Vibe Series instrument, or even the 5-sting version of this bass, and be ready to tackle most any gig. I wish that Peavey made a 34" scale, 2-octave fretboard version of this instrument in the USA, but the only USA-made variant currently in production is the 35" Cirrus Series Sarzo signature model.

I picked this bass up from a local pawn shop about 6 months ago. I had gone into the shop on a whim and saw this beauty sitting there. I had to have it. This bass totally renewed the spark of playing for me. It does everything I ask it too, from Metallica to Dwight Yoakam. The neck is super smooth, the weight is great, and the electronics are amazing. Play this bass if you get the chance!

Overall I love this guitar, the only thing that I do not like is the 2 9Volt batteries it takes.

I just bought one of these from my local music store the other night and ended up taking it back the next day! I noticed one of the little set screws in the bridge was missing, 2 of the volume knobs were bent badly, and the frets were over hanging and one of them actually sliced my finger open when I slid of the neck to pull a hammer off. I have owned Peavey basses in the past. I owned 2 older Foundations and I rushed into this one thinking it would be just as good as my old Foundations were, I was wrong!

bought this beauty at a local pawn shop, I must admit it was a steal, this ax sounds amazing! I don't own a respectable amp, I have an epiphone practice amp which i customized by connecting the amp head to a 10" sub. This bass seriously overloads my amp and gives it an awesome distorted sound as I play anesthesia (pulling teeth), all hail cliff burton.I've only been playing for a year but I've come a long way from my first ax -- epiphone-eb0--

This bass truly is something that gets seriously overlooked. First off, the active pickups are very loud and powerful. It's 3 band so it takes 2 9 volt batteries. The sound can go from smooth and soft to loud and punchy I've been playing bass now for three years and this was something I found and it is tough, durable. It has been dropped numerous times but still plays well. Couple of dents and scratches but that's what gives it personality. Also the thing stays in perfect tune. I'm constantly in drop c tuning and pound the strings hard with my fingers, it holds well. Also, the thing is not neck heavy, its perfectly balanced unlike some squier basses that I have previously owned. Too good for the price and the finish is great. I have black violet and everytime I play the crowd loves the look.

I've owned this guitar for half a year and bought it used from a local music store. It's been a great bass, looks great, and my friend who's been playing for around 10 years seriously thought about switching from his ibanez to this.

I generally don't write or read reviews for products because I believe most of them are biased and usually based on excitement rather than actual opinion of the product, but that's not the case here. I've used the Peavy BXP 4 bass for over 3 years as my main axe when it comes to gigging and it has yet to disappoint. This was also the last BXP4 that Sam Ash had in stock and after comparing it to other 5 other basses in the price range, I had to buy it. I wasn't a fan of the last color that they had left (Velvet Plum/Purple), but I just couldn't get over the feel and sound.It has low action on a thin, fast neck which is a plus for the types of music I play. I must also comment on the light weight. You will not break your back if you use this bass for a 4-6 hour gig.The active pickups are pure quality. The sound is amazing. I just wished that the batteries lasted longer, but with as much as I play, I know that won't happen.I'm actually looking for a backup BXP4 with passive pickups. When I find one, I'll scoop it up with a quickness.
