I got the Rogue LX400 bass around March of this year. I'm not a heavy bass player, I mainly play guitar and sing, but occasionally I need to put my hands on a bass for recording purposes.
It's a great looking and great feeling instrument. There were a few small blemishes in the finish, but I wasn't buying this as a collector's item or anything, so it didn't bother me. The neck was straight, so I had my regular tech guy set it up. Between March and October, I played it once or twice, and was pretty pleased.
Then, in October, I got a gig playing bass in the pit band for a production of "Rent." I had ten days to learn 43 tunes on bass. Suffice it to say I got to know this bass VERY well in those ten days! Granted this is only the second bass I've owned, but this thing is a joy to play compared to the Yamaha bass I used to have. After ten consecutive days of 8-10 hour practice sessions, I was in love with it.
Once dress rehearsals for the show started, I couldn't believe how many compliments I got on this bass. Almost every day, someone in the band would tell me how great they thought it looked and/or sounded. I was pretty surprised, considering these guys were all formally trained, full-time, working musicians, and both of the guitarists were also bass players. They were also playing instruments much more expensive than this one.
I'm sure there are higher quality basses out there, but for the price, I don't see how you could do better than this, especially for a beginner to intermediate player.

I ordered the Rouge Sunburst LX400 Pro 2-0-2011.Plus: Nice looking, really nice tone, fairly easy to play, wide neck, not to heavy.Minus: Poor quality when constructed. Mine had the through body holes missed drilled which made the bridge cover 3/4 of the string holes, bending the strings about 30 degrees which made bad intonation. The bridge had to be removed to restring the E & A strings. I then tried to restring it through the bridge & the through hole inserts fell out. The neck had spots of residue glue which I cleaned off with scotch brite. Several frets had smuge marks on the stain & some of the stain wiped off on my finger. A couple of the frets where high which caused string vibration.Over All: The LX 400 Pro has the makings of an excellent bass if Rouge would step up their quality control efforts. I returned it for a Fender.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:
Had this bass sent out to me twice. The first one had a faulty output jack and the second one had the same issue (also, they sent the wrong color the second time). The bass can still be played, but only if the cable is plugged in 2/3 of the way. I will probably see about getting the jack replaced, but with such a cheap instrument, it might not be worth it.
Also, as with most new instruments, this bass requires some basic setup for its horrendous fretbuzz.
Pros
- Fun To Play
- Good Tone
- Solid Electronics
Cons
- Strings Need Lowering
Best Uses
- Jamming
- Practicing

Grabed this as a spare bass. Great value for the price....
Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:
Very good value.
Solid mass bridge with through body strings. 6 bolts keep the neck nice and secure. Active electronics nice. Would prefer individual volume controls but mix pot fine. Body color darker than expected but still nice. Seems well balanced but have not used with strap yet.
Fit an finish very nice. No scratches, glue or other blems. Neck impeccable with good selection of wood (no knots, etc.). Frets finished very nicely. Input jack feels solid. Tuners good. Not the best but for the price point very good.
Very good value for the money spent (on clearance). Full price would be good. Blows away Epi and Squire models at same price point.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:
I purchased this for my son about a year ago. He wanted to learn to play bass and this looked like a decent one to start with. That doesn't do this bass justice. When we received it, I was amazed by the look of it. The top and finish on this are up there with some of the guitars I have paid quite a lot more for. Then I plugged it in and tuned it up for him and was blown way by the sound. The bridge pick up was clear and punchy, the way bass should sound. The neck pick up added a nice, smooth feel, great for soulful licks. As I said, he has had this a year now and has never had a problem with it. He and his friends have a band and they jam every now and then and this bass has held up great for him.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:
I don't regret buying this bass but I do have some issues with it. First upon receiving it, there were many hairline scratches on the face and edges. Also noticed a lot of polish residue in cracks, corners, etc. The neck is very straight and didn't need much change but the action and intonation were way off. A few frets around 12th and up need filing down. The jack came loose and nearly yanked the electronics out while pulling out the cord. Now on the plus side, this bass has great tone shaping options and sweet output. The neck plays nice and overall balance is great. So far it stays in tune very well after several hours playing over several days. The active bypass is also really nice. It cleans up very well and is beautiful to look at.

I just got this guitar and all it needs out of the box is to be tuned. The action is perfect, the guitar is well balanced, and the finish is beautiful. I am extremely pleased with ths guitar. Well worth the money! I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
