OVERVIEW

The new choice for touring and recording professional bassists.

The Schecter Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass is perfect for classic tones to aggressive modern sounds. Armed with a Schecter custom Super Rock humbucker pickup at the bridge and a Monster Tone II pickup in the neck position you'll have full control over tonal approaches. Coil-splitting the Super Rock pickup extends the range of the Diamond-P custom bass into vintage revisits.

Road tested and reliable Grover Vintage Tuners hold the strings over the Schecter custom Top Load/String Thru high mass bridge-which allows for tensioned dropped tunings many metal players use. The Diamond-P bass' 34"-scale maple neck boasts 21 frets on the rosewood fingerboard, and an alder body that make the Schecter Diamond-P Custom the right bass for the best price.

In late Dec 2010 I took delivery of a black Schecter Diamond P. The quality of the parts, workmanship, neck joint, setup, tones, and overall ?playability? were all excellent. I had previously purchased a more expensive Ibanez which I gave up on after receiving 3 flawed New In Box instruments. In comparison, the Schecter was pretty much perfect. I had one minor issue with some discoloration on a few frets - something I could have easily buffed out with steel wool. But instead, the gracious folks at Schecter promised to take care of the frets and ensure the instrument came back to me in "better than new" condition. They quickly & completely made good on their promise. Wow! I've never gotten this level of service from Gibson or Fender for my more expensive instruments. I suppose that's why I've NEVER written a review for any of my Gibsons or Fenders. BTW, the standard strings on the Schecter Diamond P are "D'Addario EXL165SL Super Long Scale 45-105" (http://store.daddario.com/category/145929/EXL165SL_Super_Long_Scale_45-105).

I must say that after reading the reviews I was expecting a high quality instrument. Having said that, I have had 3 defective basses and am currently waiting on my 4th and final attempt.

Bass 1. Came with a broken(defective) push pull pot that crackled and wobbled. It was exchanged for a "vintage white" same model.

Bass 2. Vintage white model came with 2 cracks/chips that were located where the neck meets the body. There was also a "short" that made a crackling noise whenever my skin contacted the knobs. These problems coupled with dirt and missing stickers/labels made me conclude that this bass was a return that did receive the proper refurbishments.

Bass 3. Came today, had filth all over it (hairs, crumbs, etc in the crevices, on the neck and all over the body). It also had the same chips/cracks where the neck met the body. This was especially frustrating as I had requested the replacement this time be gone over and inspected prior to shipment. Clearly this was not done, or done improperly.

Bass 4. I have been told that the 4th bass, now in the process of being "inspected" then shipped will be flawless. Time will tell. This ordeal should tell you what you may be in for should you opt to purchase this bass.

Pros: The bass looks very nice and minus the crackling, has very good tone and tone options. The Ernie ball strings are great and the bridge works like a charm. Other than the mentioned issues these basses come well setup. Assuming you get a working one, I assume you will be very happy. White looks much nicer than the blue in person (in my opinion). I called Schecter in order to confirm that the issues that I was dealing with were "not" normal and I must say they are a great company to deal with.

Cons: Terrible quality control on the end of musicians friend. Sending out used instruments to those who purchase new, is not the best way to gain consumer confidence. I have had great luck with guitars from MF however, the same cannot be said about the bass purchases. This bass leads the pack in that regard.

On a side note, MF has a fantastic return policy and the sales associates and management that one deals with on the phone are of the highest quality in the industry. It is a shame the same can't be said about those who work in the MF warehouse. If you get the chance to check one of these basses out at a store "in person" I would highly recommend it. They appear to have great potential. For that reason, I am giving an extra star vs. just 1. Hope this helps.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

This is one of the best Bass Guitars I have ever played, hands down. And I have had many in my time. And this guitar has a better tone and feel than my old 69 Guild Stereo Bass I used to believe was the best ever made, and it cost over 2 Grand, 25 years ago. I play classic hard rock mostly and the range of tones this guitar is capable of is impressive. The pickups are wonderful and the Craftsmanship is impressive.I tried several Basses before I found this beauty, and Musicians friend was very helpful in making sure I was satisfied. As always. I am Impressed with Schecters remarkable Quality. Got the Blue and Love it! Thanks M.F. for all your help. Oh by the way, this works great with Rocksmith also. The pickups on this are of such great quality, very powerful for passive pickups. Just amazing!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

Great bass! It was ready to play as soon as I took it out of the box, no adjustments needed (other than tuning). I play in a punk/metal band and I also play in a church band; I am amazing at how versatile this bass is! It is perfect for producing sounds similar to Johnny Christ, Mark Hoppus, or Victor Wooten. Absolutely no dislikes! I will be playing this bass for a while for sure. No need for another bass any time soon.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

The Schecter Diamond P-Bass is a keeper, I am just blown away by it's overall quality. The pick -ups are 'hot' without being active( which I love, as active pre-amps can cut out on you mid session and you don't always have a spare battery ) with a great Classic Rock/Punk Rock sound, even the setup was great straight out of the box !
I had a White Dee Dee looking one when they first came out, which I still miss...
Hence my only gripe, which is that I wish I could afford one in each color !
This Bass is exactly what I was looking for, great tone, style & build quality, all at a great price !

      A Little Extra Something...

      By

      from Santa Clarita

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

I was looking to get a P-bass but wanted a something with a bridge pickup for more versatility. I found this at my local guitar center and fell in love instantly. The bass has some good weight to it, which adds to its solid tone. Has a high mass bridge with both top-load and string-through options. The bass is passive. The pickups sound good, and the coil tap option is a big plus. I do agree that the volume and tone pots get scratchy after a while but for what I paid for the bass, I can't complain. Excellent value!

      Excellent bass for the money

      By

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

Great bass with excellent build quality, far better than Fender MIMs of late and every bit as nice as my Fender USA Jazz. Sustain for days, overwound pickups with lots of growl but tone band slightly limited because of the overwinding. Precision neck pickup sounds awesome, bridge humbucker is a little on the honky side. Possible to get a semi vintage tone using the coil tap and backing off of the volume of both pickups. The two blend well for a really solid tone. My only real gripe is that the cheap tone/volume pots go scratchy in a short period of time - a problem seeming to plague all low to mid range imports.

      My New Go-To

      By

      from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

Every time I went into Guitar Center, this is the bass I would play. I didnt even pick up another one. Being able to switch from a split pickup to a humbucker with the pull of a knob is awesome. The neck is fast and its nice to have the option of a string through bridge. If you're considering buying it, do it.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

Bought this a couple days ago in blue (stunning color), and I must say I plan to keep this for a long time.Build quality is outstanding, only one little spot where they probably could have cut the end of the fingerboard and headstock better.Neck feels as good, if not better than some of the Fenders I've played over the years. Bridge looks like a nice design, and I love having the bridge humbucker. Always wanted a P-Bass Special, but could never afford one. Only thing is that it would be nice if the neck pickup was a bit higher output. If they ever make a five string version, I'll have to try it out!

      Bad rip off.

      By

      from San Diego, CA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:

After playing this bass I decided it needs to be in the garbage. The pick ups are big and bulky and just look plain obnoxious, the neck feels like someone tried to copy an American Standard P-Bass but failed horribly. One of the knobs actually fell off when I was looking for a good tone. I never found that good tone. It is forever lost in the good tones out of crappy basses forest.
