I came down with the itch for a five string that could no longer be resisted and began looking around for something affordable and high quality. I am very spoiled as my main bass for the last ten years has been an Alembic Signature Standard. After trying (and hating) a few moderately priced 5s (being unable to afford an Alembic 5 at this time) I immediately settled on the Stiletto Elite 5 after checking one out at GC.Bought the bass from a fellow Alembic Club member who has a zillion basses and wasn't using this one, and the bass arrived in mint, factory-fresh condition. $550 + $120 for a hardshell case I bought separately. This is a beautifully made and finished bass, with a lovely quilt maple top under the see-through charcoal finish. Sustain for days, low, fast action and perfect string spacing for my style, though thumbstyle players may find it a bit tight. Hands down the best low B on any bass I've heard for less than $2-2.5K. It plays almost as telepathically as my Clarke.Sound is big, bold, clean and clear, thanks to the neck-through construction. I prefer an articulate, piano-like tone (which is why I play an Alembic) and the Schecter more than holds its own in that respect.I was stunned that a Korean-made instrument of modest cost could impress me this much. The only nit I have to pick is the electronics, which are perfectly good, but I am toying with replacing them with "proper" EMGs and matching 3-band pre. That said, the bass sounds VERY good as is.I have never seen an instrument that offered this kind of build quality, sound and playability for such a reasonable price and I have been playing since 1972. Highest possible recommendation.

I have owned this bass for 2 years, and have not had one problem with the quality of this instrument. I have a 1972 Fender Jazz bass that has been completly re-done,and plays like a dream,by everyone that has picked it up,it now sits on the side while I play this Shecter. It truly is an awesome bas for the money. For any one that is thinking of getting a five string this it!! The only thing I don't care for are the separate bridge pieces, but over all what a great sound!

Great

By Seanathon

This is an excellent bass for an intermediate player. The EMG-HZ pickups deliver excellent sound with no delay at all. The tone nobs allow a wide range of variety without any effort. Great buy!

Decent for the money

By Wallear

from Ohio

Have played this bass for 2 years with mixed results. The bass seems to have trouble keeping tune. The intonation was off and had to adjust rod twice. Gold plating on knobs tend to tarnish rapidly. On the positive, for not having mid range control you can get a decent range of tones, although, bottom end can be mushy at times.

Bass Heaven!!

By ExtremelyPleasedSA

THE best bass I've ever owned! This thing is pure bass~players heaven, from the versatility to price, from tone to beauty!! After playing this bass in the store, NOTHING sounded as good, and I'm talikn Sting Rays to the new Sound Gear 505s. The low end is phenominal, you can actually hear the low notes on the B string, and the highs will leave you smilin from ear to ear. I surely would've payed Sting Ray price for this piece, and been just as happy, but at this price, you can't help but feel like you got away with something!!!

The only problem that I have is I tune down a complete step, make my low B string an A (I dont recomend you do this unless absolutely need it) which causes a problem with the string being too loose. Other than that this bass is absolutely amazing from the neck-thru body to the gold tuners and knobs. I strongly recommend this bass to anyone lookig for a second bass or upgrading from a 4 string.

Great bass for the money

By Anonymous

Just bought this bass and it is amazing, the low B sounds awesome and the rest of the bass is great. Just as versital as any other type, great for a 2nd or 3rd bass for someone playing a few years. Great buy for the price, especially with a through neck.

Awesome Looks & Sound

I was looking for a new bass to replace my Fender 5 string. This bass hit on all my needs - lighter weight to save my back, smaller neck to help my aging hands, better sound to satisfy the ears, dynamite looks to please the eyes, & a great price to help my pocketbook.

Best bang for your buck!

I purchased this bass about 6 months ago and am very impressed with it. I've been going from bass to bass trying to find that perfect versitile sound and this has it. I tried something new with this one and strung it E through C being I do a lot of 6 string stuff and it handled it beautifully without a lot of rework on the neck or bridge. I am not a huge fan of active electronics, but I am a huge fan of this bass. I run it through an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro and a Peavey 2x18/2x10 cabinet. Also, with a line 6 Bass Pod, or any processor for that matter, it gives you that much more versitility. I own 4 other basses and they're all collecting dust now. Pick up this bass, you won't regret it.

Plays & sounds like those costing $1000+ more

I picked this bass up when I was looking for something different. I played all the usuals: Yamaha, Warwick, Rick, Epiphone, even a Les Paul. After my second recording session with this bass, I had to come here to write its praises. Both engineers couldn't believe the sound of this bass for recording. When they finally asked what kind it was, they wanted to buy one. After some initial setup issues, it was perfect for the studio sessions. Big, fat round tones when needed and the growling, biting, in-your-face bass when called upon. I strung it with DR Extra Life strings & this thing rocks. Live on stage, it's the same story. I can get my sound with it not to mention its gorgeous looks.

Best Bass I've Owned

By HCBCman

from Austin, TX

I play in a Christian rock band, and we are about to embark on our 1st CD project. I needed a new bass and after playing the Stiletto Elite, I was sold; plus I got a smoking deal. The neck is thin enough for great playability, yet firm enough really grab a hold of the bass and rock out!

Schecter Stiletto Elite-5 Bass

By Freo

I've ownd and played this bass actively for over 5 years. It is a beautiful quality made instrument. It sounds and feels great. I've had issues with the tuning pegs stripping when trying to tune up a full step. I had to call Schecter to have them send me replacement parts twice. Customer Service was wonderful and they sent me the parts free of charge. I did have to adjust the truss rod once during a really humid summer to keep the B & E from rattling. The Active EMGs sound great as long as you're not too close to things like Ceiling fans or if your playing in a poorly wired area. The pickups will react to this and you'll hear it. The action of this bass is buttery smooth and a joy to play. The guitar is a bit heavy, but it's solid. You know your playing a good instrument when you play this bass.

Amazing

By Paul -Nll10

I have just started to get serious in a band and I wanted something good. And when I started looking this thing stuck out immediatly. The finish on it, the pick-ups, the painted neck, everything on it is flawless. ! I just couldn't let this thing slip through my fingers, so I got it. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and my guitar players and drummer love it, this and my lead players new esp really sound nice together. The bottom line is if you are looking for a new bass for any style of music this bass is perfect for it.

Buy This Bass

By JEVICofthaMC

from Katy, TX

I'll be honest and say that I can't find something bad to say about this beauty. Plays great, and looks dead sexy on stage to boot. The neck is a little wider than I am used to, but I have seen plenty of basses with necks that look like a log, and this is not one of them. Also, the neck-thru contruction is a God-send when playing above the 12th fret. I will never buy another bass with a bolt-on neck. Besides, it will be a long, long time before I retire this baby!

Excellent 5 String!

By Anonymous

I own two of these--I have them strung differently--and they are phenomenal instruments for the price, offering top-shelf construction and materials, a wide range of tones and sounds, and tremendous playability. Easily as good as basses that cost 2-3 times as much

Wow, what a bass, what a deal.

This is by far, the best playing bass, I have ever played. It is a very solid bass, so it does have a little bit of weight to it, but get a good strap and you won't notice it. The finish is VERY NICE I have the black cherry, it looks great with the gold hardware! It plays very easy, I had to save up for a while to get this, and man was it worth it.

I bought this bass as an upgrade from the deluxe 5 i had, but wow i just wasnt ready for the quality this bass brought. The neck-through body carries sustain like a dream and the 35" neck really gives an amazing 'B' or even 'low A' quality. the EMG-HZ's also make this baby roar buy this bass now!

Rock-solid bass, great for beginners and pros

By sheriff74

Very solidly built, though a bit on the heavy side. The weight is the only real criticism I have for this bass. The neck-through design allows for excellent resonance and sustain. The EMG-HZ active pickups can be silky smooth or have a good growl for heavier music. This axe has a much brighter and more punchy sound than other basses in the same price range. This is my main axe for playing at home, rehearsals and gigs.

Totally Awesome!!!!

By Alan-n_A9t

from Amarillo, TX

I have looked for a new bass for month's and finally got the Elite5 Back Cherry. At the time Musicians Friend was the only company had it in stock but I had to order the case elsewhere. The case is a professional fit. It was worth the wait. I play contemporary Christian bass and the tone is awesome. It comes with Elixir strings which at first...did not impress me until I heard them over the PA. Talking about a B string that can rumble. I will stay with Elixer and Schecter. Also, the complements keep coming!!! You may have to adjust the bridge to get a little more height on the strings so they want keep hitting the frets as much. It will give you a softer tone but will not loose it's punch. Oh by the way, combine it with a Tech21 Sans Amp.....Totally Awesome.
