I chose and bought this bass after comparing it to the Fender five string standard jazz bass and the four string versions and found the Affinity five string to be equal in quality construction as the Fender versions. I am playing this bass in church services. The sound is impeccably Fender at an very economical price. It is, in my opinion, a professional quality instrument. Go ahead and buy it for your kids but if you play regularly like I do you need this instrument in your arsenal. For the price it can be your 'go to' bass if you cannot afford an American Fender.
For a standard jazz version of the Fender jazz bass it meets its big brother on sound, construction, and playability.
Very high quality. I set the bass up with D'Addario nickel half rounds to remove the roundwound string sound when you move your fingers against the strings. It gave me a sound almost equivalent to an upright bass which was a stunning surprise to me. I intend to put Thomastik-Infeld strings on it to get as close to the upright sound as possible. This bass will do it.
The price is far below the instrinsic value of the instrument. This is a high quality bass for the money.

this is a good beginner bass. you get wha you paid for. with some new strings, the bass doesn't sound all so bad. I also play a musicman bongo 5 and this bass has features the bongo doesn't have. the sustain is amazing on this bass. the note won't die out. but on the bongo, the note lasts for a couple counts and then just dies. overall, not a bad bass.

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I bought one to explore the 5 string. I think it is a good bass, not a 10 but a good value. One thing I like is the midway detent on the bridge pup volume. Nice way to help know where you are mix-wise. My other basses do not have this.

If it had a better bridge and tuners it would be a better quality bass but it would cost more too.

        Good starter/practice/studio bass.

I bought this as my first 5 string and i sold it because i thought that i would never need one again. Boy what a mistake. The sound was incredible. one pickups was muddy for a beefier sound and one was bright for a clear sound. both are controlled by separate volumes. Neck was a little large to begin with, but it grows on you after a while. Not exactly professional, but if you are looking for a bass that can fit in at any occasion, this is the one.

Terrific value for the dollar, seriously. I did a fifteen minute setup and it plays like a dream. Don't let the "Affinity" name scare you. I don't konw what they skimped on but its a fine instrument.

I've never played a "real" Fender Jazz but I've played planty of basses and this is a good one. A keeper, no doubt.

Squire sunburst 5 string affinity Jazz Bass

              from Venice Fl.

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I have to admit, i usualy replace something on my Squier and Fender basses , but i'm hard pressed to do it any time soon. I have a nice Shaller roller bridge that i will put on this bass. I also have an old Fender waterslide logo that i was going to put on the headstock, but decided not to dissrespect the craftsmanship that Squire put into this bass.
              Typical Jazz Bass.
Very good to excellent. The finish is better than my MIM Fender, and the neck is very nice also.
You can't get a better bang for your quickly diminnishing dollar.

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

Overall this bass is the best I have owne, thoughts only the second I have owned. Feels, plays, and sounds slamin. It will be a journey as to im used to 4 strings but im ready for it.
Stunning out of the box. From head to neck to body, the feel of the bass is fantastic.
Very good aesthetically wise. The pickups had some ofv what looked like rust on the magnets but it doesn't seem to affect the sound.
I've had other more skilled bass players tell me that it is or can be just as good as basses twice the price so that was nice to hear.

              Fender Jazz bass

              By ralph mccall

              from Sweet Home Alabama

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I bought this bass as an inexpensive backup to my Ibanez BTB1205E Prestige. While it will never compare to my Ibanez, it does for the price more than fit the bill.
Action and intonation needed to be setup out of the box.
The features of course are pretty standard for a Fender Jazz bass.
The overall quality is of course not up to the American made Fenders, or even the MIM Fenders, but for $200 you don't have much room to complain. The neck finish isn't the best, but it feels good.
The body finish is nice, but I did notice several of the pickgaurd and pickup screws aren't seated well.
The tuners seem to hold well after gigging with the guitar for an hour.
The sound from this bass is good for the $200 investment.

              from Colorado mountains

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

The sweet quality of the bass strings on the Jazz V was a pleasant surprise for me. Some other guitar companies do not really send out their new instruments with anything like the strings on the Squier Jazz V. Kudos, Fender!
Just a brief P.S.- although I bought some strings for my Jazz V, I don't need them yet. The strings that came with the bass are bright, shiny and new!
A very good bass for beginner or veteran player.
Lots of bass for the price. It keeps up with the MIM!

              Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V

              By pat raftery

              from Colorado mountains

Comments about Squier Affinity 5-String Jazz Bass V:

At age 65, I've always been a P-Bass guy, though I played some EBO's in the '60's and a Gibson Ripper in the '70's. Now I'm really opening up to the J-Bass sound, and this model has the pickups to do that! Having been a four string guy, it's taken a day or two to fully integrate that low B string, but I'm used to it now and no longer feel like it's a four and a half string bass. I have shopped with MF since 1985, so one last "Thank you" to MF for always keeping the customer in mind when offering a product, and one last thanks to Fender who keeps reminding me that Leo is still alive in his musical instruments, like he is looking down on us and smiling from above. Gotta stop now, it's time to lay down some bass lines through my Fender Bassman!
I recently purchased a used Condition 3 Jazz bass V from MF for a significant savings. The brown sunburst is stunning and gives me a great view of the wonderful alder wood grain both back and front! The electonics work super, not a problem to be seen. Nice straight neck with a smooth dark rosewood fretboard quite unlike the dry grainy rosewood one sees on lower end instruments. Well done! Smooth frets, no burrs or fret-overhang. Again well done! Back of the maple neck very smooth and satisfying. Electronics are excellent, no crackle, no buzz, no loose pots! Weight is fine, balance is not top heavy.
So where was the defect, since this axe is a "Condition 3"? Aha! A one inch long scratch/ding on the side of the body! What Fender doesn't have a ding? That would give it low "character" value. My 1965 Strat has lots of them! A Les Paul is another animal, but my Fender Jazz V is already growing with personality! That scratch is the only defect I can find and has saved me significant $$$! Thanks, MF, for your marketing policies!
This bass sounds and plays great. It is a "keeper". I won't sell it, and that is how I evaluate my instruments, not on some over-valued market system that encourages me to sell, sell, sell. It is in the same class as my old Strat or my 1967 Gibson J-45 (thanks for that Epi Elitist 1963 Dot ES-335, MF, that I bought on your site, it ranks there too!). Now I also have the free time to upgrade that old MIJ P-bass with new PUPs and wiring harness!
