I bought it to throw in the car for road trips when I don't want to take a good bass because of heat and cold extremes that could be encountered. I was blown away with the way it plays - the fretboard is free from buzzing, better than a lot of my expensive basses. The bridge adjusted to perfect intonation, and I could set the strings as low as I want. I thought at least I'd have to replace the pickup as it would have no bass response, but it is perfect! Great response across the frequency spectrum. Oh sure, the tuners are not high-grade, but they hold their tuning, so what more could you ask for? In short, it is a terrific bass at a terrific price.
This is a P-bass, there are no features! It is Fender's original model, with one passive split humbucker pickup. However, it is history in one package. When you think of the songs recorded with this axe, it is amazing. If you like basic thump, this is the bass for you. Only downside is that, like all Fenders, it is heavy, nearly 10 pounds. It does make it stable to play, and I suppose improves the sustain, but just be aware that it is on the heavy side, a pound more than my MIM P-bass, for some reason.
I was amazed with the quality of construction of this bass. I can't really tell a lot of difference between this and my MIM Fenders.
It is a super bass for a low price. It is built like a tank, and it is, after all, basically a Fender. If you want any kind of replacement or upgrade parts, they will all fit. But as it is, you have a very serviceable bass that should last a lifetime. Why start with a "beginner" bass of some kind, when you can have this beauty?

The squire bass is a good instrument for the money
I played this bass in trying a stomp box. I did like the way it felt and it did sound good. Like the other reviews that I have read, I would have to agree that this bass is a good beginner bass and one that can take alot of abuse when practicing or playing a local gig.
As stated before, this is a good practice/beginner bass. I have played much better, However, I have played much worse. The tone is fair to good(I have a Fender J-bass that is professional grade). The main complaint that I have read is that it's heavy. I would have to say that I vehemently disagree with that assessment. I play much heavier basses than this one.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
Got this bass when i was 16 now am 25 has been through a lot of falls and dings and still hold up well. Its a 1999 and the finish is starting to crack on the back. I has some good low mid and high tones. The stock strings are terrible I replaced with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys made a big difference. Would not change the pick ups at all. The problems i have had is the input jack scratchy pots and the fret board near the headstock is cracking still plays fine would recomend for a starter bass only.

Cons

- Poor Quality Craftsmanship
- Truss Rod Frozen

Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
by far the WORST bass i have ever played, the action is way too high and you will have to shell out the money to shave down the nut, not worth it for this bass. The dang truss rod doesn't even work! check out an fender MIM standerd p bass. 100 times better than this! the fretwork is horrible, sharp edges everywhere! like i said check out the Fender MIM standerd p bass.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
This bass is my youth groups bass, and I have used it for playing at my youth group, church, and my band, Tidepool. It has never let me down, only when one of my strings snapped, but those were the original strings. Once i got some GHS Boomers on there, it has sounded terrific. I love the feel of the neck and the sound those little pickups give. I give this bass an 8.5

Ok bass,.... I have gone into the wiring for the pickups twice due to I've lost everything a time or two. Never on stage but while thumping around the house. I am going to order the Squire Classic Vibe P '50 and keep the Affinity as a practice bass.
Basic volume and tone control. Don't see a wide control with the tone control.....
OK. Had to pull the pick guard due due to a wire crushed underneath where the volume and tone controls are.
I got this as a unit with a 15 watt amplifier (pakage deal). I was actually going to buy a Squire Classic Vibe P '50's Bass that had a dent in the body, but after noticing that the dent was very close to the input of the bass I decided to look around a little more and found the Affinity P bass. I actually bought a Rumble 150 amp and this bass to play through it because the bass felt better than in other bass that I played in this price range. I use the 15 amp bass as a practice amp around the house,... kinda cool but has limited features!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
It's a good beginners instrument, when I started I thought it was amazing, but as I discovered tone and improved, it eally fell short at that stage, so if you're getting your first bass, this would be in my list but it would definitly NOT be the first on the list, maybe 3rd or 5th I also replaced the pickups in mine with EMG P-X pickups that were over half the price of this bass alone, and replaced the bridge with a babicz model and in turn it really did nothing for the tone so don't plan on upgrading electronics thinking it shall grant you tone, it won't, maybe with a high end onboard eq, but there's no point, I will say however that when I ran this through my pod HD500 It sounded amazing, but what doesn't through that? All in all, a good/okay first bass, little expensive for what it is in my opinion
So It's features are that of a precision bass, it consist of a tone knob and a volume knob, there's nothing more a P-bass needs really.
The tone wood of this bass is horrible, while not noticable to the beginner, after playing some other models that were even cheaper than this bass, I was rather dissapointed in the sound, it's so airy sounding on the low e no matter what strings I used it was like I was hitting a tree with a bat, the a d and g strings however didn't suffer from the bad sound, and I think it's because of the type of wood used has a poor low end frequency response. The tuners are cheap and if you slap the bass they go out of tune fairly quick, the input jack became loose but that happens to most all cheaper guitars anyways.
It's a good value but compared to some other ones I've played it's alright, I recomend trying an ltd b-10 It's way cheaper and has better low end, now when you go pick a bass try to play them before ordering them, do not plug them in, play it unplugged first and slap it a little and if it doesn't sound deep and ring through the body well then hang that bass back up and try a diffrern't one don't even bother pluging it in.
Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
As a beginner bass, this would be a great choice. Overall, this is a good bass with a nice sound and a good price. I highly recommend this for a beginner.
With experience though, this is not a great choice. I am no expert but I am not completely satisfied with this. The few features, and only decent quality and value make it not a great third or later bass. (Maybe it would be okay for a second one)
Not many features. A volume and tone knob offer a small amount of sound customization. As a beginner's instrument, it is good enough, but for someone with more experience, it may not be enough.
Pretty good. Sometimes crackles when turning the volume knob. I am using a used one, so that may be why it's doing that.
The head is pretty big and bothers me. It probably wouldn't bother most people though, I just don't like it.
Other than that, I am pretty satisfied with the quality.
Nothing special. It's good, but not great. Nothing to cry about though.
Comments about Squier Affinity Series P Bass:
The Pickups in the Jaguar verses this are like day vs. night. They are in the SAME PRICE RANGE too. Everything else is almost identical feel wise, but the Jaguar is more Jazz-shaped and is a little bit bigger. If you can deal with that, I recommend it over the P-Bass, and even many other high price options.
Pickups aren't very strong
The rest of it is nice
For the price, go with the Squier Jaguar.
