    Comments about Squier James Johnston Jazz Bass:

    Let start by saying I've been playing 45 years,from little bars to thousands at festivals, .....
    Edit
    Played in many bands thru the years,and have played shows with headliners such as Elton John,Moody Blues,Michael McDonald,Kansas,Little River Band,Pure Prarie League,Hootie and The Blowfish,Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes,Danny Gatton,Pat Benetar,Tesla,Blue Oyster Cult,LIVE,Gin Blossoms,The Outlaws,Marshall Tucker Band,Duncan Shiek,KIX,Molly Hatchet,10,000 Maniacs,The Vice President of the USA (Gore) Halloween Party,The Kennedy-Shriver house,Planet of The Abts(Gov. Mule mius Warren Haynes) and more. I am blown away by the SQUIRE ! When it was delivered I looked it over with a fine tooth comb,could not find one flaw in fit and finish,played out the box,but we all set our instruments up to our own liking, a little tweaking..KILLER! I owned a '66 Jazz back in the 70's & 80's CAR w/ matching headstock,I put this bass right there with it. I wish it was an alder body,but I'm finding no real difference with the basswood. All the tones are there,Jaco,funk,jazz,modern,rock, blues. I have 7 other basses, and this is now my main squeeze,the color and matching head stock is oozing sexiness. ... I had a 20% off coupon with Musicians Friend ...sweet.. This bass seriously reminds me of my '66 Jazz Bass.I added the vintage thumb rest, the bridge gives sustain all day long,frets as good as a USA Fender,AND....I'm leaving the pups alone! When I ordered it I thought well,I'll put some Custom Shop pups in it, NOPE....I'm good with the stock pickups(if I did, I would do a Fender '75 reissue in the neck and Custom Shop '60's in the bridge). You won't regret buying this bass,especially if you dig a vintage feel and look.

    Comments about Squier James Johnston Jazz Bass:

    Bought this because I wanted some Jazz Bass vibe, and boy did this axe deliver. I'm going to list off the important features:

    Fret ends were fantastic out of the factory, and there are no sharp ends;

    Nut was cut properly;

    Initial setup was decent, leaning towards good. Needed a little work, obviously, but I've seen much worse;

    Neck is glossy, vintage-tint. This may throw some people off, but for those who like a thick gloss, you'll be in heaven;

    Pickups are nice and growly, and have lots of life. Not something I expected at this price point;

    Bridge is solid, and the brass saddles are a nice touch;

    Knobs were all solid, not loose at all, and there's no static or choppiness when the knobs are turned. Still, there is some serious on/off effect going on when turning the knob down just slightly;

    Headstock finish was spot-on, and there were no parts where the paint bled onto the side of the headstock;

    Tuners are solid, and hold tune;

    Stock strings are good enough to use for a while. In my case, I order strings online in custom gauges, so it's good to have decent strings to use while they're being delivered.

    Overall, I love this. I don't want to sell it, ever (and I've sold a lot of guitars). Planning on adding a tortoise pickguard (for swag), DiMarzio Area J pickups (for noise cancelling), and maybe a brass nut to enhance the, already incredible, sustain.

    I highly recommend this. I can't say it enough, if you want a blue Jazz Bass, just BUY IT before they stop making them in the next year or so. Just do it. You won't regret it one bit.
