Comments about Squier P Bass Electric Guitar:
This is just a very nice Bass guitar for a really good price. I am mainly a guitar player but needed a decent bass for recording in my studio and the occasional jam. This bass sounds great and plays well. I had to do a little tweaking of the truss rod and bridge to make it play and feel comfortable for my playing style but after about 20 minutes it was good to go. This is a surprisingly nice instrument for the price.

Comments about Squier P Bass Electric Guitar:
other than the name on the headstock, you couldn't tell this wasn't the more expensive models. I was shocked at how well the guitar was setup right out of the box. Plays and sounds wonderfully. I've bought much more expensive bass guitars and had to spend a lot of time setting them up to play well. This one plays well right out of the box.
Comments about Squier P Bass Electric Guitar:
I bought this bass with the intention of replacing the pickups and electronics and fixing anything that needed it. I replaced the pickups with Fender Original '62 pickups, the volume pot with a Bourns premium guitar audio taper pot, the tone pot with a Fender no-load audio taper pot, and the tone cap with a .047uF paper in oil cap. I also shielded the bass completely with copper tape and grounded the pickup pole pieces. For the price I have an absolutely fabulous P-Bass
.
If you want to fix it up, this a wonderful bass. If you want to play it like it is, the pickups are limiting.
WARNING: There are 5 versions of the Affinity P-Bass - black, blue, red, white, and brown burst. The red, black, and blue versions have 14 hole pick guards and the brown burst and white have 13 hole pick guards. My 13 hole brown burst was "crafted in China" and I think the black, blue, and red might be made in Indonesia. ****The pick guards are not standard Squier or Fender and a Fender pick guard will NOT cover the control cavity (and the holes don't line up). If you want to replace the pick guard, you are looking at a custom job!
It's a nice, clean, and simple bass. The closed tuners are nice and stay in tune and the bridge is simple, straight forward, and solid. I only had to loosen the truss rod 1/2 turn and the setup was perfect. It even has nice strings if you like round wounds.
The construction of the bass is top notch. I don't know what the finish is on the neck, but it is clean and smooth. The fit and finish of the neck is impeccable. The body is three piece alder and the paint job is beautiful (I got the burst finish). The neck pocket was clean and perfect (I was expecting paint and shims). The neck/body joint is tight and I haven't noticed any dead spots on the fingerboard.
The electronics are less impressive. The mini pots are by a manufacturer I'm unfamiliar with. The tone is a 250K audio taper and the volume is a 250K linear taper. This means the volume is really on or off with very little adjustment. A Fender '62 P-Bass pickup is magnetic pole pieces with wire wrapped around them; these pickups are steel rods wrapped in wire with a single magnet underneath touching the pole pieces. I found these pickups turned muddy when I played with moderate force.
I noticed a popping noise like a shorted wire and found that it came from touching the frets when not touching a grounded part of the base! This bass has no shielding whatsoever!
I bought this bass as a project bass and could not be happier with the construction (electronics aside).
