was originally looking for a cheap Jazz Bass body to get for making a pattern for a pine body J bass. This was sold as a "return" 2nd because it was missing an A string & had a small cosmetic scratch. Just for fun, I replaced the string, buffed out the scratch, lowered the action and couldn't believe what I was hearing (& feeling!). Somehow I lucked out and got a light ash body (under the candy red). This thing vibrates acoustically like no other bass I've picked up, and the neck is wonderful!! I like it so much, that I've put off that pine project for now and still can't believe what I got. Pure Magic.

This was the first bass I ever owned. When I first got it, I had no idea what a bass even did so when the guy at the store played it I was like "cool." Anyway... after about 2-3 months of playing, I noticed significant buzz on anything below the 9th fret, my G strings had the worst tone ever, just plucking it came out sounding like a rancid pop. After about 6-8 months, the input jack screw came loose and snapped the inside wiring, so I had to solder the thing. keep in mind I took perfect care of it. Its tone is quite awful, the buzzing is annoying, I think a beginner should look elsewhere, but I really haven't played any other beginner basses since this. My rating is compared to the basses I own now.

More Bottom end for your Buck!

By 100proofhero

I have played bass both as a career, and for fun, and I've owned a lot of bass guitars. This one is right up there in both quality and tone with anything out there. I had to sell my American P Bass, and needed a replacement for my home studio. For the price I figured I would take a chance, and I couldn't be happier. The individual volume knobs make for endless tonal possibilities. You can get really punchy tone(similar to a musicman), really low growl, and even a very classic tone, just by dialing in the two pick ups. I would recommend this to any bassist, and don't let name brands keep you from great sound.

Squire Jazz Bass

Ask me a question

I do studio guitar and have been playing bass & guitar over 30 years. I needed a bass put write & record at home but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I was blown away by the quality, set up , and finish on this thing. All it needed was a half turn of the truss rod and the thing played great. The tones are great picking, fingering, or popping. I got the walnut finish so there was nothing hidden under a paint job, I was very impressed with the finish of the body and neck. No dead spots, intonation is fine.

Nice Bass!

I purchased this for my son, who is a beginner. I bought it based on the Squire name, figuring it would be a good, solid, beginner bass. It's that and more. This is exceptional quality for the price. AND it came out of the box almost perfectly set up. Intonation was great on all four strings. Action was low and easy. The E string was just a tad low with some buzz above the 12th fret, but a small adjustment cured that right up. The nut was well done. String height was ideal. My son loves this instrument, and now wants to practice a lot more. I played a 77 vintage Fender (American) Precision Bass, and I can tell you, I prefer the action and overall playability of this instrument. In all honesty, I have compared Squire basses to Fender MIM standards, and the action on the Fender standards is better (in my opinion). Pickups are better on the Standards too (in my opinion). However, I haven't played an American Fender since my P-Bass, so I can't compare to those. I really like this bass, and would have been happy if I'd have bought one for myself. In fact, I'm looking for an excuse to borrow it from my son so I can play it with a band.

Awesome bass

Neck feels great, the scale of the bass allows for the Drop A tuning that i use and there is little to no fret buzz in the upper register of the neck.

Worth every nickle

By Capobasso

I got this a month ago to use as another spare to my beloved '79 Precision, but it's now the first one I grab. Pretty amazing axe for the dough. Nice and light for those 3 set nights, but not tinky or neck-heavy like some other Squiers. Tone is full through the Eden/SWR with no extra toys needed. Authoritative, with concise definition, it's definitely a JB.A hint--First thing out of the box, I tightened everything up including the output jack, then I leveled, rounded and polished the frets, got rid of those nasty stock strings, and set and intonated the bridges. Suggest new owners should do likewise, even if you pay to have it done by a benchtech. For under 300 bucks, I have an instrument that can give the '79 a well deserved rest.

This was my second bass and it was alot better than I thought it would be. Everything plays great, no fret buzzes or bad tone. It sounds great to, I've dropped it a few times but it's fine and is very sturdy.

Good investment

By JT2112

I bought this bass around 2-3 years ago, and it has never failed me since. I popped some active EMGs in and the tone is amazing, and I soon hope to strap on a badass bass bridge. I love the ultra-slim neck which has always kept a very good action. A good deal overall, even better if you plan to upgrade the parts on it.

Cool Bass

This is an extremely awesome bass. It Has great a great action, tuning keys that don't slip, and an awesome all-around sound. The only thing that is a draw-back is that it's not very durable. The finish on it chips away like paper. Even if you flick it it'll chip there.

This thing rocks

By Corn pops

from Utah

My friend got this bass like a month ago, and the thing has only gotten better. The thing has a REALY deep tone, even on a guitar amp. He just upgraded from a titan precision bass, and this thing kicks trash compared to it. The neck is super slim, he got the mettalic red and it looks really cool under lights. This bass is a ten all the way!
