Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass:

I personally dislike reviews that say instruments are good for the money, but I guess I'm going to do that here. I had to have some work done to this bass to get it in playable (for me) condition, but after that....look out! It sounds amazing for the money. I just wanted to get my toe wet with fretless, as my main bass is a 5 string fretted. I probably will only play this 20% of the time to start, but I'm really enjoying it so far. It has that sweet mwaaahh sound on the higher strings and a really nice grind on the lower 2 strings.
If you want to try a fretless, this is a great place to start.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass:

One of the bands I play with now does some Latin Jazz, so I thought I would jump into fretless. I didn't want to spend a lot of money since I probably would only play it 20% of the time and I have a nice G&L 5 string (fretted). I hate when people say "it's good, for the money", but I suppose that would apply here. The action was just sky-high when it came out of the box and the strings were not really good for this style of playing. The nut had to be adjusted to compensate for proper strings. So, I had to put about sixty smackers into it once I got it. Now, it plays and sounds great, which I love. I would have loved it more if I didn't have to do those things, which made it not such a great deal. I recommend it, I guess, but it may have been worth the extra cash in hind sight to spring for the Ibanez. Just be prepared to make some changes.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass:

This is an excellent bass for the money. It's thin neck and smooth fretboard make it an ideal bass for a guitarist. The rear pickup has a good quality tone but lacks any real output. I'd recommend upgrading it down the road and the saddles ring a bit and don't let the string sound off as good as a quality brass saddle. I will replace these down the road but in actuality, it's something I can put off. It's a nice easy to play bass.
It did require a little more setup than I thought it would. Of course, I ordered it sight unseen. The action was ungodly high and after lowering the saddles it was apparent the neck needed adjusting. It took 3 firm turns with the Allen wrench. A little aft nut filing was required to let the strings ring. It may sound like a lot but it came together in 20 minutes. The intonation was almost perfect. After adjusting, the action is incredible and all sounds and looks wonderful.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass:

No, it isn't a 63 Jaco bass, but for a fretless in that style, the price can;r be beat! It handles a solid fretless sound, feels comfortable, and works as intended. I use fretless maybe 20% of the time and this is an easy set up, holds tune, and gives yo9u what you need....it's a Fender afterall!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass:

Squire has been making good stuff these days! This is a GREAT Bass! The fretless tone is off the chain. You will not be sorry. I had to set mine up but even with a pro set up you come out cheaper than the Jaco version. Went to a jam session and blew them away. I may buy another one. You can buy two of these, a combo amp, case, guitar strap and still come out of the pocket way less than the jaco version. Check it out on youtube. Well worth the money!
