Squier

The guitar design transferred to bass.

The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass puts classic Fender looks into a uniquely attractive and super-versatile bass guitar. Features include an agathis body and one-piece maple neck with stylish white pearl block inlays on the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard.

Amazing bass at a great price

Features:

I was really impressed with this.  I have a Squier Cyclone that I got in 2002 that I'm reasonably satisfied with, but this is amazing.  My friend has a Fender Jag Bass that's easily 500 dollars more, and they feel exactly the same.  The only difference from the Fender is that he has more knobs and switches, whereas this only has 2 sets of knobs, and each set of pickups has it's own volume and tone knob (a really interesting and cool design).  My first time playing was live and it was great.  Bought it used from MF and other than not coming in the original box it was in almost pristine condition.

Considering the next best bass is over $400, this is an amazing value.  Could not be happier.

"For the money . . ." and more

Overall:

(I am throwing all three of the categories into this one.)

The body of this Squier Jaguar bass is a lot lighter-weight than it would appear. The  neck is almost heavier than the body, but overall the instrument is well-balanced. For someone with scoliosis or who's not  so burly, lighter weight is a benefit. The materials used in this bass are not  top-quality, but that's why it's so inexpensive. For my purposes, as a  guitarist needing a bass for recording, this instrument fits the bill.  The contours of the bass's body conform to mine such that its playing  position is ideal for picking with either a pick or fingers. The  humbucker pickup with active circuitry is more than sufficient for  recording; it makes me want to play bass, live, in a band, again, to do  it justice. I could see how a professional bassist might keep the Squier Jaguar bass on hand for back-up or for playing under hazardous conditions (as some live-music venues can be).

The neck, after adjusting it (to be expected to do with a mail-order  guitar or bass),  is quite comfortable; the only comparison with the  ease of playing is  with that of a Fender Telecaster bass I'd owned a  long time ago.  However, since this bass had been inexpensively  constructed, the ends of  the frets require filing to bevels, so that  they not bloody the lower section of the index  finger of my left hand. The shorter scale of the Jaguar's neck, however, eases the transition from guitar to bass.

Yes - "for the price," and all that - definitely. My purchasing this bass (used) only made me feel as though I'd ripped someone off. I almost wish that I were more of a bassist to befit such an instrument so nice despite its faults. I expect that this instrument will make a bassist out of me, yet.

Eight, not ten, stars because the ends of the frets need work on my part.

Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass

| Review By: Guido Sanchez | 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Features:

I bought this bass as a total impulse buy. It matches my 62 re-issue Jazzmaster.

The stacked contols are super easy to use and are easy to get to while playing. I like the detents on the tone controls too. I can dial in almost any tone in a matter of seconds. Although passive on the pickups they are very versitile. It can thump and twang with the best of them

Quality:

I have let guys play this and they think it is a $1000.00 bass. Fit feel and finish is top notch. The tuners and bridge are fine for the instrument. the hardware is good.....Not the top of the line but for the price of the bass they are adaquate. fretwork is very even not high spots and smooth on the side of the neck. Nice weight of the instrument. I am not sorry about buying this bass. Total impulse buy. I LOVE IT

Value:

The Squier Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe lines are the best value in a quality instrument. I have USA made Fenders and this sits right along with them

Overall:

This bass didnt have a price tag on it...I paid $199 for it. The tones of the bass are amazing. The bass is perfectly balanced. Great fretwork. Painted headstock looks very 60s and very classy. the block inlays really set off the look. When waxed and buffed out the paint looks like it's 10 miles deep. I have purchased 2 more of these basses. 1 for my stepson and 1 for one of my best friends. I have recommended this bass to 3 beginners and all 3 bought this bass. I am a working musician and have gigged with this bass quite a bit in the las 10 months I have had it. This is a great bass for beginner to a pro

This bass is great. you can really dial in almost any sound you want, especially for slap playing. it is alittle neck heavy but went away as soon as i put a 3 inch strap on. has fret buzz around the 17th fret on the A and D strings but the notes can still be heard easily. overall this is deffinately the bas bass i have played in this price range and i searched around alot before i got this one.

What a Guitar this is, WOW!

Features:

Love the stacked Volume and Tone Nobs in combination with the Duncan Designed pickups, and the Jaguar Design has the look!  Open Gear tuners add that Fender style.

Quality:

I was shocked at how solid  this bass is and true craftsmanship the clean lines are that of a Italian sports car.

Value:

Bang for the buck if you can swing it it is well worth the price.

Overall:

Well I've been playing the same bass for the last 25+ years and now I see why these basses are the industry standard.  I was looking for a new bass and tried a couple of other competitors basses and in this price range there is no competition.  I chose the Vintage Modified Jaguar Bss by Squire.  Now lets talk sound this bass can be dialed into the sweet spot that allows you to go from super smooth mellow playing to growling slides up and down.  The combination of the strings and the pickups make slap bass sounds that rivaled $1200 basses.  I play this Jag through my Line 6 Low Down 110 and you just can't help but be inspired every time you play, you just get the sounds you always wanted.  I would recommend this bass to anyone starting or playing for years the feel and sound is something you need to experience.  This is truly a Vintage Bass of the future.
