Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

All the reviews are right about this bass. I disagree about the pick ups. the Duncan design pickups are not amazing they are ok... I disagree about the String spacing it's not narrow it's actually very comfortable. For cheap gigs this is it. For recordings I would go with the Active version of this bass and it's funny that they cost the same just because of the look of this one is much better. I've played both this bass and the Active version for hours at a local store. I would probably buy the active bass for overall quality.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I am primarily a guitar player, but I often stand-in on bass, too. I was looking for a solid 5-string so I could be independent and not have to borrow someone else's bass whenever the need arose. This bass plays great and sounds great! It has got fantastic wood tone and sustain, especially for a bass in this price range. Well worth it!!

Way too good for the money!

    By Peter Flores

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Overall, as I mentioned before, this is a fantastic bass right out of the box! You cannot go wrong with this one. Pick one up and it will quickly become one of your go to basses.
Lets see, real block inlays and binding (not painted). Very decent "clover style" machine heads. Very good sounding Duncan designed pickups. Solid maple neck. Overall, this baby is very much on par with basses costing 2 to 3 times its price.
My bass arrived adjusted pretty well. I still havent adjusted the truss rod as it was shipped with the neck pretty straight. String height was really good right out of the box; nice low action with almost no buzz. Im still working on a slight buzz on the B and E strings at the 12th fret but not a huge deal at all. Among others, I own an MIA Jazz Bass V and it too arrived with a couple of buzzing frets so im not shocked by it. I didn't see the sharp edges on the frets like some reviewers mentioned (maybe I got lucky!). The finish is very smooth and surprisingly even. And yes, it sounds like a Jazz bass! You can pretty much dial in any sound you want with the Duncan designed pickups. Good even response. I kid you not, this bass really feels and sounds like a much more expensive bass!
Hands down amazing in the value category! As far as im concerned, it absolutely cannot be beat for the price. If you leave it alone (no mods) right out of the box, it definitely holds its own and packs a punch giving other basses a challenge. Swap out the pickups, like I did, for Seymour Duncan BassLines pickups, and you have a heavyweight contender!

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V

    By David LeTourneau

    from Presque Isle, ME

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

If you don't have a lot of money to spend and want a "quality" five string, this bass is a great buy. I personally think this is one "sharp" looking bass and the craftsman ship is top notch to me. the bass will need a little work (bridge will need to be raised a little bit), but it sounded good right out of the box. I will not be changing any of the pickups or strings as the ones that come with the guitar sound great. First bass I ever owned was a fender standard precision and to me, this bass sounds every bit as good as the precision. I owned a 5 string Ibanez Gio205GRS before this guitar and there is notable difference in the two basses. the squier is much more playable and has a "wider" neck which gives you a little more space between the strings which I like. I am also not a big fan of "active electronics" and like the fact I don't have to have a spare battery on hand "just in case".
I just can't seem to find anything negative with this bass yet, I really like it. For the price, this bass is a steal!!!! God Bless.

    I own it

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I received my Vintage Modified 5 String Jazz Bass in only two days after placing the order. The appearance is great and set up seems just right. It is everything I could expect for the price and I am very pleased. If I were pressed for one slight negative it would be that the fret edges could be dressed a bit smoother. Overall this is a great buy and I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a 5 string. The natural finish improves the vintage look.

Best 5er on the market, for the money

    By Josh Senic

    from Greensboro, NC

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I am a musical veteran with over 20 years of experience playing live and recording lines in studio sessions. I have owned Ibanez, Fender, Spector, Carvin, Yamaha, and Traben bass guitars, and I have used Hartke, Ampeg, Fender, Marshall, Line 6, and GK amplification. This bass, for the price point, is without a doubt the best bass that I've played! The inlay work on the neck, binding and blocks, is superb. The fretwork is good. The tone of this bass is remarkably good for being a Squier! I definitely plan on changing out the stock pickups and bridge for some more heavy duty stuff (Bertolini 59J1's and a Babicz Full Contact bridge), but for what it is, and for the price of the bass, I was very impressed with the hardware. The quality of the construction is top notch; I've owned much more expensive basses that weren't produced this well. The soft maple body, maple neck, and maple fingerboard produce a bright tone with barky, burpy upper mids. I find myself dialing in a bit more low and low mids to compensate, but I don't mind that so much. The bass cuts through and sustains, due to all the maple. Good wood, great finish, good tone.

I have had to sell almost all of my former equipment due to some unforeseen financial circumstances. I joined a country/rock band and found myself in need of a 5-string. Since I didn't have a lot of money to spin, I decided to give this little bass a spin. I am very, very happy that I did. If you're skeptical, try the bass out at a local guitar store. I'm more happy with this bass, at this point of my playing career, than I have been with most of my other basses that I have owned. Clean tone, comfortable to play, and a good weight for me. I like basses a little on the hefty side, and this one has a little bit of weight.
