Carbon/maple hybrid delivers the warmth of wood and clarity of graphite.
That gorgeous, growling fretless tone from a relatively tiny instrument. Designed by Ned Steinberger himself, it features the unique U-channel graphite core in a rock maple neck and maple body. Combo head accommodates double-ball and single-ball strings while the unique Direct-Drive double-ball bridge adds super-fast string changes and tune-it-once tuning stability.
While other guitar manufacturers have been resting on their laurels, Steinberger's been thinking. Witness the strap hook, recessed tool holder and output jack, fold-down leg rest, and phenolic fingerboard that's slick as butter and fast as lightning.
Low-impedance EMG USA bass pickup with internal low-impedance preamp and piezo bridge extends the range on both ends for earth-moving lows and phenomenal transients from slap-style playing.

This bass is worth every penny. My only gripe is the b string is very dull, but its a fretless, its deep good for jazz and blues but not boomy and clear enough for metal and hard rock tones. Im pleased for the money.
The Steinberger 5-string is an extremely fine fretless bass, a steal at the sale price and certainly worth more. The tone is superb, with an impressive fretless "whah" sound (the G string, for instance, absolutely snarls), and the action out of the box was impeccable (something I have never been able to say of the 10 basses I own). The fingerboard is smooth as silk and just begs you to slide around on it. The single EMG plus piezo pickup arrangement offers a variety of tones suitable for anything from jazz to rock (and with a bass processor, even metal and electronica). The clarity of the low B partly depends on your amp setup, as usual with 5-7 string basses. Sustain is excellent, which for me is an important component of electric fretless sound. Fret markers on the fingerboard itself as well as on the side of the fingerboard provide a welcome check, given the tricks that sight angle can play on finger position (but don't forget to use your ears too). The instrument is also very comfortable to wear. Well done Steinberger/Gibson.
